Debate will be a tie despite Mitt Romney edge

It’s been decades since we’ve seen a 10-plus point shift in polls due to a debate, but that’s been the result of the Colorado showdown between former Gov. Mitt Romney and President Obama. Will Mitt be able to repeat that in Virginia tomorrow night?

((snip))

Due to the format and low expectations for Obama, this debate will be a draw between the two candidates. In reality, Mitt will probably clean Obama’s clock again.

Mitt needs to keep his expectations low. One slight slip-up couldean a lot. Mitt needs to be on top of his game again.

Looking forward to seeing this debate. Just watching the body language alone has been quite informative.

Obviously, I want Romney to win big time tommorrow. That said, if Romney comes prepared, a tie may be all he really needs.

The momentum is still going in his direction. To stop it, Obama needs to destroy Romney on stage and make voters associate Romney with the image his re-election campaign spent so much money on creating, not the guy who was kicking butt and taking names in the 1st debate. If Obama only ends up with a draw, Romney probably continues to hold on and probably continues to expand his lead in battleground states.

I also think that if Romney emerges the clear victor in the 2nd debate, it’s probably all but over for Obama. In that scenario, Romney probably pulls away in the polls and the third debate will be too little/too late to rescue him.

Just MHOs, of course.

Romney should go after 0bama's policies at a hig level. For instance that his Keynesianism style stimulus and jobs programs have completely failed to resuscitate the economy after the end of the recession in June 2009 and will continue to fail if 0bama wins reelection. That his 'Arab Spring' policy is a disaster in the making that haa already led to the Benghazi massacre and the rise of Islamic extremism across much of the Muslim world, the Fast and Furious scandal and that 0bama's national health care efforts are fatally flawed and counterproductive. The goal is to make 0bama look as bad as possible and/or get him to lie as much as possible during the debate in a way that can be easily refuted with fact checking.

Romney could probably take a couple of shots at 0bama himself if handled carefully, such as asking him if there is an inscription on his gold ring (if he wears it to the debate - it is purportedly in Arabic and means 'There is no god but Allah'), and mention that the Democrat controlled Senate has rejected every budget 0bama has proposed. References to 0bama's well hidden academic and citizenship records such as Selective Service and his citizenship status while he lived in Indonesia, etc. is definitely fair play, IMO.

Well said, but there is another component: the emotional one. Mitt can close the deal by getting obastard to blow a gasket...

” Just watching the body language alone has been quite informative.”

Isn’t reading body language another one of those inexact “sciences” that only makes it easier to judge style over substance when style by itself is kind of out of style?

I’m going to try something different this time.

If I miss the televised live debate, I’ll be looking at transcripts. If I can get around to it, I might have the sound on with the picture off or find a radio station that’ll have it on live.

Romney must press the weaknesses of Obama and these are many on the foreign policy front. He must answer every shallow Obama lie and not let them stand.

If Obama does a Biden, he will look like a scary black (follower of Wright) and whites will flee.

I don’t think a tie hurts Romney. I also don’t think a “loss” (at least on points) hurts him either.

The “win” in the Denver debate wasn’t on points. It was on narrative. The Obama narrative, that Romney was a 21st Century Ebeneezer Scrooge was proven to be patently false once people actually got to SEE Romney without the filters applied by the Obama synchophants in the Media.

That’s a game-changer. A darn-near unrecoverable one. Romney would really, seriously have to screw up the next two debates to undo the success of Denver. As in total implosion along the lines of Leona Helmsley and the “little people”.

I don’t see that happening. The reason being that the Romney we saw in the debate - at least temperment/tone wise (policy positions are another thing, and we all know Romney blows with the figurative wind there) - was the real Romney. Romney would actually have to come out as the caracture Obama painted him as from Spring forward to “lose”.

Romney's problem has been his lack of likeability

Facing off with an arrogant ignorant unmannered street punk who leads with his chin trying to act all wee wee-d up may just help Mitt

as long as he drops that McCain-like business of being all deferential and smarmy to “Mr President” and takes him on man-to-man, and obama doesn't have a hidden mic in his ear to compensate for his lack of TOTUS. obama does not think on his feet. He has to be completely scripted. So all Mitt needs to do is take him off script, shake him up and get under his thin skin

Yes, I agree. That is why this second debate is actually a very good opportunity for Romney to “seal the deal” as they say.

It gives him a chance to show he “cares” about “ordinary people” and is “responsive” to their concerns; that he can “relate” to them and “understand” them.

I have NO DOUBT in my mind that Mitt Romney certainly does care about and understand ordinary people much more that Barack Obama does. Barack Obama understands nobody but extreme left liberals and cares about nobody but himself.

I don’t think Romney will have a hard time coming across well to the public, but after so many negative portrayals of him this may still come as a surprise to many.

Still, I think Obama will do OK, he has learned to fake it well enough and still enjoys enough residual good feeling that unless he really screws up the debate will be a draw.

However, I think even a draw will help Romney by a point or two, should he outright win that will probably boost him above the margin of error, nationally at least.

I don’t know if too many people will watch the final debate on foreign policy, or they may not watch much of it. Too boring for many, but Benaghazi remains an issue so many may tune in just to hear that part of the discussion.

This townhall debate should get a big audience and is very important for both candidates.

Debunked... close up photos show what is similar to Arabic writing but is just figurative serpentine designs. That story may have been placed by obama himself.

True, my reasoning is you can see on the face of the “President” (gag, hack and wretch) how irritated he is, also how disdainful and disgusted he is to even have to debate Mr. Romney. This man has spent 4 years being deified, worshiped and having his ego built up to unbelievable proportions. Now at the debates he is getting a small taste of reality and it is nearly more than he can take. The looks he gives show how much he hates Romney and the United States.

The Liberals see that leaving “O” on his own so to speak, without a biased moderator propping him up and handing him every sort of advantage does NOT work.

“O” does not possess enough ability, experience, intellect, etc. to wing it or at LEAST make a respectable showing. Too much of his innate hostility and smallness becomes apparent with the full glare of public scrutiny is on him as he fails when left to shift for himself.

Expect a diferent situation THIS time with “O” coming out like a schoolyard bully who is ALSO the teacher’s pet. He will be at his ugly, thuggish and smugly, self-satisfied BEST! A guarenteed crowd pleaser, if you are equally thuggish, insolent and smugly self-satisfied yourself!

The ring question would be interesting. Barack would doubtless reply with a question about Mitt’s magic underwear. Whereupon Mitt should say that it will never get pulled down for a hussy in the Oval Office.

All you have to do is remind yourself of the average IQ of the people “O” os targeting.

THAT will tell you everything you need to know about the strategy he’ll use.

If you only have the IQ of an earth worm, like “O” supporters, small things like ‘lack of substance’, lack or factual information, lack of any sort of grasp of issues, LACK OF RESPECT for your opponent, etc. will NOT interfere with your assesment of the debates!! :)
