Mitt Romney holds 8 higher education degrees" bachelors, masters, 6 doctorates. What do we know about President Obama? He surrendered his law license in 2008 and all his educational transcripts are under seal so that no one can learn about who he is.

What an amazing difference between Mitt Romney and President Obama. The differences are so stark and obvious. Is it any wonder Romney crushed Obama in the debates?

The other day we were having a conversation about Mitt Romney and the subject of his education came up. We found out that Mitt Romney holds a bachelor’s degree from Brigham Young University, a juris Doctor from Harvard, and a masters of business administration also from Harvard. In addition Mitt Romney holds 5, yes FIVE, honorary Ph,d’s. What do we know about President Obama? He surrendered his law license in 2008 and all his educational transcripts are under seal so that no one can learn about who he is.

I thought that Obama surrendering his law license was debunked.

He actually “retired it” in 2006 presumably because he did not want to pay the renewal fee and take the continuing education courses.

What is Obama hiding by sealing his school records?

How many economics classes did Obama flunk?

Why is Obama hiding behind his sealed school records?

Are Obama’s sealed school records more or less transparent than his Executive Order to protect AG Holder?

Yup. Romney should ask one or more of these questions in the debate tomorrow night.

WHAT IS OBAMA HIDING, AND WHY IS HE HIDING BEHIND HIS SEALED SCHOOL RECORDS ?

Sorry, but honorary degrees aren't worth crap. You show up at a graduation, give a speech and get an honorary degree. Would you want someone who gave a speech at a medical school graduation performing surgery on you based on his honorary medical degree? < /pet peeve mode>

Try getting a juris doctor of law look at that accomplishment; or a masters in business at the same tiime. I am willing to bet you have neither! It is amazing how the fly swatter freepers just dismiss accomplishments like this when they could not hold a candle to Romney. So predictable.

I know of Notre Dame, Michigan, Wesleyan, Hampton, and Miami-Dade.

Arizona State denied him one when he spoke there, saying he was too inexperienced. That was a big news article.

Until I see one of the other posters on this thread permit someone with an honorary degree in medicine perform cardiac surgery on their hearts, I will maintain that honorary degrees mean nothing.

That is the story being peddled as to why Barack and Michelle both gave up their law licenses.

Does it sound plausible and reasonable?
How many lawyers actually give up a hard won law degree voluntarily for those reasons after all the years of college it takes to obtain one?

It's not as if the Obamas were destitute and couldn't afford the relatively small fee.

It smells like more Obama Bull Scat.

“How many lawyers actually give up a hard won law degree voluntarily for those reasons after all the years of college it takes to obtain one?”

One of my closest friends just retired her law degree 15 years out of law school because she hated the practice of law so much.

Personally, I would do it in a heartbeat if I could find a non-law job as I hate law too.

It’s more common to retire your law degree than you would think. I’m not saying that’s what the Obamas did, but it’s not uncommon.

You could be a troll therefore your post is not valid. We do not know what your intentions are because you are hiding behind an homme de plume.

Do you have any idea how hard it is to get a juris doctor degree? Not many can do it and that is why law firms give signing bonuses for such. You must have an ax to grind with Romney! Who are you anyway!

Everytime a person speaks at a commencement the college awards them an honorary doctorate. Academically it is meaningless. Romney has one more degree than Bombo, a Masters in Business. There are questions about Bombo’s record but basing it on degrees is silly. Bombo has a doctorate for every time he gave a commencement at a school that awards doctorates as not all do.

The amazing thing about this is that he did the two degrees at Harvard at the same time and graduated with honors.

The honorary degrees are nice but mean little. They are a gift from the university to who ever they wish. Mainly, it often reflects the persons donating money/time to that particular college. Which does not surprise me, since Romney has a history of donating HUGE amounts of money to good causes.

I wonder how many on here, who like to take swipes at such a person, have donated their own money/time to worthy causes.

I did not question Romney real academic accomplishments, bit rather the academic worth of any honorary degree.

For example, Kermit the Frog has an honorary doctorate.

Do you believe that Kermit the Frog's honorary doctorate makes him more academically accomplished that anyone who has not earned a PhD?

An Ovaltine secret decoder ring is worth more than Obama's Nobel "Not George W. Bush" Prize.

In the future everyone will get a Nobel Peace Prize for not being George W. Bush... well, except for President Bush.

Exactly correct. You stole my thunder. Not only does the community think highly of Romney by bestowing honorary Ph.d’s to him, but he has earned some substantial degrees on his own. A juris doctor ain’t no chicken feed! This is more than Obama ever received as a law student.

The amazing thing about this is that he did the two degrees at Harvard at the same time and graduated with honors.

That's true, but not quite true in the way people may think.

The normal time required to earn an MBA at Harvard Business School is two years; Romney spent four years earning his MBA. The normal time required to earn a JD at Harvard Law School is three years; Romney spent four years earning his JD.

Romney's a very smart guy, but what he did is normal as part of Harvard's joint JD/MBA program. The catch is that under the joint program, you take courses for which both the B-school and the law school give you credit - so you're not really doubling up as you would normally think from the phrase 'two degrees at the same time.'

Romney graduated with some form of honors from law school and was a Baker Scholar at the B-school, meaning he was in the top 10% of the class. You don't get that by simply being smart. You also have to be a committed, hard worker.

Romney is a smart guy and I hope he wins (faute de mieux), but he is no intellectual. In this is is like most every American politician — no classical education or exposure to the liberal arts, and therefore not an educated man but a mere technocrat: a muddled thinker with no philosophical core and no systematic grasp of logic or rhetoric. It leads to an unprincipled, pragmatist, incoherent, and sentimental approach to the world entirely in keeping with one who would point to honorary degrees as an academic attainment.

I could buy five Ph.D.s on line before lunch, every bit as notable as Gov. Romney’s.
