Posted on 10/15/2012 7:25:45 AM PDT by Oldeconomybuyer
As he tries to engineer a comeback in this week's presidential debate, President Barack Obama needs to recognize two things. First, when it comes to politics, Mitt Romney treats himself as a product, not a person. Second, Republicans cannot defend their proposals in terms that are acceptable to a majority of voters.
Romney, Ryan and the entire right know that their most deeply held belief the one on which they won't compromise is rejected by the vast majority of Americans. That's their faith that every problem in the economy and in society can be solved by throwing more money at rich people through tax cuts.
Obama doesn't have to look angry or agitated in this week's debate. He simply needs to invite voters to see that Romney, the product, will give them no clue as to what Romney, the person, might do as president. Romney keeps changing the packaging because he knows that the policies inside the box are not what voters are looking for.

EJ musta missed all the democrats defending Porkulus, Obamacare, Libya, DOE Loans, Shovel Ready, Iran, Amnesty, Debt, Fiscal Cliff, S&P Downgrade, etc.
Is it true that Dionne prepped Biden for his debate with Ryan?
This woman is an idiot. “Proposals” vs. a dismal record + that “record” being defended by an imbocil = another loss by the kenyan empty chair.
How is it that cutting ALL marginal income tax rates by 20% is tax cuts for only the rich? Why do Republicans let Democrats get away with such a lie!
WHOA! The Censoring Liberal Agenda Media, (CLAM), is really getting worried when they bring in the heavy hitter of EJ Dionne, Jr.
BTW, EJ is a guy, well sort of - - - .
EJ Dionne is a male. Barely but, still.
5 TRILLION dollars of infrastructure “stimulus” and not a single new airport, power plant, highway, seaport, bridge, college, university, or dam anywhere in sight!??????
And he’s hacking away at our defense ... and he’s derailed even our space exploration program into a Muslim Self-Esteem Therapy Clinic?
WHERE HAS ALL OUR MONEY GONE!????????????????????????????
EJ, stop wasting your (and our) time writing political apologia bullsh!t. Instead, dust off your “journalism” credentials and find out, tell us where all our money’s gone (who took it????)
Nope..."Elizabeth Jane".He just changed it the other day at the courthouse in his obscenely rich Maryland suburb.
HATE THE RICH!! HATE WHITEY!! HATE! HATE! HATE! BLAH! BLAH! BLAH!! class warfare - class warfare - class warfare - It’s worked everywhere it’s tried . . for the political ruling elite.
Is E.J. a fag? He lisps like one...
This is an attempt to project the liberals main problem (can’t defend Obama’s last 4 years) onto Romney.
This is what we would expect from a pro gay, if not gay, black racist pretending to be an oped writer.
"Romney, Ryan and the entire right know that their most deeply held belief the one on which they won't compromise is rejected by the vast majority of Americans. That's their faith that every problem in the economy and in society can be solved by throwing more money at rich people through tax cuts"
zero, biden and the entire wrong know that their most deeply held belief the one on which they won't compromise is rejected by the vast majority of Americans. That's their faith that every problem in the economy and in society can be solved by taxing all people and taking away liberty and rights
roflol. Oh is THIS our core belief?
“That’s their faith that every problem in the economy and in society can be solved by throwing more money at rich people through tax cuts.”
So nice of the dems to tell us.
ej is a fag bottom,
And thus the evolution from “fairly mainstream left-of-center columnist” to “stark raving moonbat” is complete.
Amazing that someone can be paid money to write this kind of overwhelming stupidity.
***...That’s their (the ‘entire right’) faith that every problem in the economy and in society can be solved by throwing more money at rich people through tax cuts.***
Our faith is in God and free markets, not men and women.
And for the record - gov’t cannot ‘throw money’ at rich people or any taxpayer through tax cuts. They can only take more or less of what the citizen has already EARNED; the money is the taxpayers to begin with.
I know these are difficult concepts for the average liberal to comprehend.
LOL. That's right, E.J. -- Republicans think everything can be solved by throwing money at rich people. But what about contraception????? Don't Republicans want to jail anyone who buys birth control pills? And what about homosexuality? Aren't Republicans for the death penalty for gay people? This guy Dionne is a clown.
Well, this is almost redundant to say about Dionne, but...
1. Romney is defending his proposals, or at least advocating for them vigorously. People who have a proposal that can’t be put in terms acceptable to the average voter don’t put them in umpteen stump speeches or whomp the President with them in the most watched TV event other than the Super Bowl.
2. Dionne is sooooooo projecting here. Obama can’t defend his proposals, which, as we saw at the last two debates, boil down to “I’ll tax the rich more and it will trickle down to making your life better somehow.” And keep in mind that I chose generous wording there, avoiding inconvenient facts like the taxes hitting the middle class like a ton of bricks through small business taxation, the fact that they won’t even make a dent in the deficit, much less the debt, the fact that Obamacare has 21 new taxes and 12 of them are on middle class workers, etc., etc.
On top of that, Dionne himself comes from a class that never bothers to defend its ideas and has a ludicrous vision to help the middle class. I mean, come on, E. J. ...you’re from the commentariat that includes Paul “A real stimulus plan would be a fake alien invasion” Krugman.
Anyone issuing such a statement is a Foole (professional fool) and should be shunned.
I wish Romney’s plan was bolder, throw out the current tax code. Start with a blank piece of paper, determine what are your priorities and funding, and no one with an income should should exempt, everyone should have a stake in the future.
Dear EJ, put down the hopium pipe.
Are you sure? Have you checked for an Adam’s Apple?
EJ Dionne gives pond scum a bad name. Please include a BARF Alert for all of EJD’s articles.
There is so much to mock in this essay, I don’t know where to start.
The flat-out lie that R/R think they can solve every problem by throwing money at the rich. Just wow. Is that what you hear, Mr. Dionne?
It makes me wonder what you hear when Zippy speaks (I mean, reads from the teleprompter.) Let me guess. You hear him saying that he will fix every problem, heal the earth, and bring utopia. You hear that YOU will get a bigger piece of the pie. But most of all, you hear that he will stick it to the rich (and to whitey) and that makes you happy because you’re a hater.
Let me tell you what I hear when Zippy reads: I hear him say “spread the wealth around” and “fair.” Do you know what that means, Mr. Dionne? That means he wants to take money away from people who worked for it and give it to people who didn’t. That means that he wants to put America into a downward spiral of misery. Of course he won’t say that directly, but what do you think happens when you apply his principles repeatedly? You disincentivize the productive citizens of this country from working and you encourage ever more greed in the lazy and entitled class. You build resentment among the hard-working people who actually do give to charity (unlike most liberals) until their compassion is eroded. Instead of spreading the wealth around, he will spread the misery around. And some people like that because they would rather have everyone equally and permanently miserable than to allow anyone to have more than they do.
And one more thing, Mr. Dionne. I’d suggest you take a close look at all the taxpayer money Zippy has given to his already rich friends (campaign donors really, not actual friends, because he has none). Solyndra. Elon Musk. Many, many more. I suppose as long as the rich are liberal, you don’t mind giving taxpayer money to them.
I took the liberty of adding the mandatorybarfalert keyword. However, E. J. Dionne's byline is a "barf alert" all by itself.
Is E.J. Dionne still living? Or do they just recycle these columns from 4 or 8 years ago and change “Bush” or “McCain” to “Romney,” and “Clinton” or “Gore” to “Obama.”
It seems as if every single column with his byline on it is exactly the same as all the rest.
