Skip to comments.Katrina vanden Heuvel: How Romney’s extreme policies insult us all
Posted on 10/15/2012 10:52:13 AM PDT by Oldeconomybuyer
At first glance, it might seem as if Mitt Romneys path from voting in the 1992 Democratic presidential primary to being the 2012 Republican presidential nominee was linear. But over the past, winding, 20 years, Romney has held every possible view on every possible issue often at the same time. When it comes to policy, hes been downright promiscuous.
Jolted with a fresh shot of post-debate energy, Romney is just doing more of what hes always done whatever it takes to get elected. This comes naturally because he is, fundamentally, a cipher. The only thing he believes is whatever is politically expedient in that given moment. And right now, he needs to be a hard-liner to get the GOP base to the polls and a moderate to appeal to those last few independent voters.
His solution is to sign on to the fanatical policies of the extreme right, and then duck and cover to confuse independents about where he really stands.
Enough is enough. Romneys campaign has made for great Daily Show segments. But were three weeks away from determining the next leader of the United States. And at this point, Romney is just insulting Americans our intelligence, our values, our democracy with the campaign he is running. Tuesdays town hall debate is an opportunity for voters and President Obama to articulate the real consequences that Romneys real policies will have on real peoples lives. So lets hope that, at the debate, voters will finally demand that Romney get real.

Impossible to have a conversation with hysterical women like this.
Good ol’ Katrina random Drivel.
If Romney is truly all over the map how can it be logically inferred that he has extreme policies? If he were all over the map, his policies would jump from extreme right to extreme left and everywhere in between.
I happen to believe the author is right to some degree - Romney will say anything to get elected - but he doesn’t hold “extreme views”. That makes no sense at all.
The Left: Hysterically concerned about their Idol’s chances.
Also known as "The Democratic Party policies of the John F. Kennedy era." :)
This woman is a deranged loud-mouth. Haven’t seen her on the Sunday morning programs as of late. I suspect that the Obama team has asked the networks to keep her off of the guest panels.
Ted Kennedy to Willard, in the US Sennate, MASS 1994, “You’re multi choice”
too cowardly to speak for yourself....eh, Katrina?

Her father was at Leonard Bernstein’s famous party in 1968 honoring the Black Panthers (as reported in Thomas Wolfe’s Radical Chic)... and she is calling Romney extreme?
He is extreme. He is further to the left than Obama on some issues.
Women like this are why the BITCH Slap was invented!
What a slobbering moron.
So you and Katrina will BOTH be pulling the lever for Obama, then?
Those food stamps workin’ out good for ya? How’s that free Obamaphone holding up?
Geeze,"nana"...give it a rest.We get it! Romney's a filthy Commie.
She gives no clear reason for anything in the title.
Oh yeah, Ryan (not Romney) is towing his bosses line on abortion. Abortion! That burning issue that remains completely dormant every 3 3/4 years until an election. No proposed legislation; no movement to amend Roe vs. Wade (of any import, anyways), no nothing - except for Catholics being forced to pay for contraction. Now there is a 1st Amendment issue. (Well, not for the Compost.)
This doesn't warrant including with the “letters to the editor”. Makes big assertions and forgets to support them. Whoops!
Unlike the teleprompter-in-chief, i think she means
