A reminder about the last plant-infested, CNN-run town hall debate

By Michelle Malkin • October 15, 2012 12:38 PM CNN’s Candy Crowley will be moderating tomorrow night’s second presidential debate. It will be a 90-minute town hall forum at Hofstra University on Long Island, east of New York City. Both the Obama and Romney campaigns signed a “memorandum of understanding” about how the debate will be run. But Crowley is already making noises that she plans to circumvent the agreed-upon rules and take control: In a rare example of political unity, both the Romney and Obama campaigns have expressed concern to the Commission on Presidential Debates about how the moderator of this Tuesday’s town hall has publicly described her role, TIME has learned. While an early-October memorandum of understanding between the Obama and Romney campaigns suggests that CNN’s Candy Crowley would play a limited role in the Tuesday-night session, Crowley, who is not a party to that agreement, has done a series of interviews on her network in which she has suggested that she will assume a broader set of responsibilities. As Crowley put it last week, “Once the table is kind of set by the town-hall questioner, there is then time for me to say, ‘Hey, wait a second, what about X, Y, Z?’” Do you remember what happened the last time CNN was in charge of a high-stakes “town hall” style campaign debate?

When the hell will we EVER see a moderator who is not a media libtard?

Sean Hannity? Rush Limbaugh? Let the public see THAT

This is what I’ve been worried about. Obama is too lazy and shiftless to be well-prepared, and Romney will be enthusiastic and ready. But this town hall format is too easy to stack with Obamatrons.

While I too am a bit puzzled as well as nervous about the parade of liberal Obamaphiles (er, moderators), I’ve been thinking of one possibility that this could really work out in Romney’s favor....

If he can successfully work with or around the liberal bias, or cut the moderator down after calling them out, and come out of liberal-bias debates as the victor, it only stands to make him look like a much stronger candidate, and especially one who can stand up for himself while working with Democrats, which would speak well about working bipartisanlly as president.

Just my $0.02

Yes, those PLANTS are going to eat Romney ALIVE!! The fix is in! Pray for him that God grants him the mind and the guidance of the Holy Spirit. That the blinders of the American people will fall off!

Romney did prepare for his exams at Harvard. He´ll do his homework. The guy from Occidental college may have just gotten through because of affirmtive action. The debate will tell us alot about what´s in the head and heart of each candidate.

What I saw in the last debate was the way Romney commanded the stage. He WANTS this new job and it showed. He was prepared and ready.
I have no doubt it will be the same thing tomorrow. Watch for his command of the issues and the circumstances(like a true CEO would do going into a hostile crowd or company).
I think Romney is going to put Obama away tomorrow, regardless of what Candy or those so called “undecided voters” try to do. I am really looking forward to seeing it.

I agree....I think we should all be praying for a good outcome.

While I fail to understand why the GOP would ever agree to this format, I think that it will work out OK. Remember, everything from this day forward targets the undecided, and maybe a few independents. So overt partisanship against Obama, by either Crowley and/or the questioners, will turn them against Obama.

The pothead versus the CEO....if not for the corruption of the town hall format, it would be a beautiful smackdown.

But it might still be that. The way the Dems have been behaving these past few weeks, digging their holes deeper and deeper, I’ve started to wonder if God in His justice has sent a spirit of delusion against them, to confound and confuse them. I guess we’ll see.

These town halls should get the boot. I hate listening to boors on talk radio drone on for a couple minutes on their soap boxes in asking questions and I don't want to hear the same thing in a town hall format. Having said that, Romney has proven to me that he knows what he is doing and will be prepared so I'm not worried about him.

I like the idea of having two moderators at each debate — one chosen by each side. I wouldn't care if it was Bill Maher or Keith Olbermann on the Left as long as conservatives got to choose one too.

It isn’t necessarily the question they ask but it appears that Crowley intends to go beyond the question and engage in the process by asking further questions.

Hopefully, that memorandum of understanding includes a provision for a relief moderator if Crowley becomes indisposed (i.e. unwell, overly rambunctious, etc.).

The minute she steps out of line just say:

“I really wonder why the commission picked you as a objective moderator after you called my running partner and I, ‘a ticket from hell’.”

Just once, Mitt.

CNN has a multi-million dollar appeal languishing in Obama’s stacked NLRB (NLRB Case 05-CA-031828).

Crowley can save her company big money by tailoring the ‘debate’ just the way she wants to anyway.

She interviews the questioners beforehand and chooses who speaks. After the candidates respond to the question she then gets to lead the candidates into a two minute discussion.

CNN can quit worrying about NLRB Case 05-CA-031828...

This will be the exact same format.

I don’t know, it might be cool for Crowley to make questions up. These would be questions Obama would not be expecting or prepared for. Hey, if the Obama camp is afraid of this happening, there has got to be a reason.

I have to admit, when I read the headline, I wondered, “Plant-infested? ( visions of potted palms, hanging ferns, bonsai and spathiphyllum) whazzat means?”

Frankly, after the last debate I believe Romney will be able to hold his own. I was afraid that he was going to be another John McCain but he didn’t back down.

That being said, Republicans should never agree to these forums with liberal moderators.
