American media outlets report that weapons shipments to opposition forces in Syria are falling into the hands of radical Islamists instead of their intended recipients.
Writing for The New York Times, journalist David Sanger has revealed a classified U.S. government report that said arms shipments to Syrian rebels from Saudi Arabia and Qatar are reaching Muslim extremists including those linked to Al Qaeda. Sanger quoted a U.S. official who said that the groups receiving the aid "are exactly the ones we don't want to have it."
A second issue is the nature of the U.S. government's role in this scenario: the U.S. has been helping Saudi Arabia and Qatar send the weaponry, which is light arms such as rifles and grenades, to the rebels.
President Barack Obama's strategy of sending weaponry indirectly has meant having no real control over how it gets to where it's going and who it gets to when it gets there. As a result, the arms have often ended up in the hands of America's enemies, the article points out.

More of the disastrous Obama legacy America will have to deal with for the next decade, or longer.
It was planned ahead of time, like the murder
of Ambassador Stevens.
Is there one gonad in the entire US Congress?
calling the terror-funding Saudi dictatorship an “ally of America” is like calling sh!t caviar....
someday the NYTimes will finally die and be replaced, hopefully, by an honest newspaper (of any political persuasion, as long as it just reports the news honestly I will be HAPPY)
Is this news? For crap sake, the United States is arming radical Islamists is Syria with recovered arms from Libya, just what does everyone think the Embassador was doing in Benghazi with two CIA Agents.
Hey. I found it. You there with the pointy ears! Give me back my flashlight, right now! Stop him, he’s escaping! What that he said? Hee haw?
Note to State Department, there are more unicorns in Obama’s pocket than Moderate Muslims on Planet Earth.
Perhaps giving guns to those who have declared war on us is not, er, wise?
I'm convinced that has been Obama's intention ever since he started toppling those governments that were tolerant of Israel...

I want an APB for that donkey. I found him in the dark with a flashlight, and now he’s run off with it. He must be found and punished, do you hear?! OK. Now I’m ready for you, sir. What’s this about some guns and some moderate Muslims?
America has a single ally in the ME. The rest are users who have uses for us or our $$$ or both, but nothing more.
Hillary’s fault.
...and Stevens was point man for that weapons influx in Libya....that has fanned out to kingdom come.

Assad is better than the alternative -- scary isn't it? Better for Israel, the US, Syrian Christians.
I disagree. With Assad goes an established working relationship between Iran, Hizbollah and Syria. A Suni Islamfascist regime would be preferable, because religion would serve as a wedge. They all hate us, but they look forward to the day when they’ll be finished with us, and then go for one another. This creates disunity, communication troubles, and occasional feuds. The US, UK and USSR were able to work together to defeat a common enemy. But in Islamic thinking, we are already defeated, and they are champing at the bit to get on to the next war with those false Muslims over there that they had to be allied with. Ironically, this confusion between the theoretical and actual worlds is one of the things that time and time again has made them lose. I only hope that their confusion intensifies. Assad’s defeat will help intensify that confusion, so I’m all for it.
Actually the wedge would a Shia wedge from Iran to Syria with Sunnis in Turkey separated from Sunnis in Saudia
Wouldn’t it be nice if the US State Department was actually on the side of the USA and our allies?
We have allies in the Middle East (other than Israel)? Color me shocked!
