Mitt Romney is leading President Obama by five percentage points in critical battleground states, according to a USA Today/Gallup poll out Monday - a gain the survey suggests is linked to a spike in support among women.
The poll shows Romney ahead, 51 percent to 46 percent, among likely voters in 12 swing states: Colorado, Florida, Iowa, Michigan, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Mexico, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and Wisconsin.
Women typically trend Democratic: In 2008, female voters chose Mr. Obama over Republican Sen. John McCain by a 13 point margin. Now, according to USA Today/Gallup, Romney is tied with the president among women who are likely voters, 48 percent to 48 percent. He is leading by 12 points among men.
"In every poll, we've seen a major surge among women in favorability for Romney" since since the first presidential debate, veteran Democratic pollster Celinda Lake told USA Today. "Women went into the debate actively disliking Romney, and they came out thinking he might understand their lives and might be able to get something done for them."
But the Romney camp shouldn't celebrate yet, argued Obama pollster Joel Benenson...

Ya know vet. You constantly post some of the best posts on here.
As to the polls. Romney folks need to run like they are 20 points behind all they way to the election.
I will continue to say that till its over and the fat lady sings.
At this point, such polls must be used as propaganda of “bandwagon” effect to increase support. Even women are now going for Romney. Come on Latinos and Youth. Don’t you want to be on the winning team?
This Gallup Poll.....
Is leaving a mark...lol
The increased support among women could at least partially be attributed to the Joe Biden effect.
“The increased support among women could at least partially be attributed to the Joe Biden effect.”
Totally true. During the debate, I was wondering how women would feel about this mean old man bullying this respectful young man.
I think Ryan’s level head and calm demeanor didn’t hurt either.
Not to mention he’s hansome.
I think Ryan’s level head and calm demeanor didn’t hurt either.
Not to mention he’s handsome.
Whatever, you/I/we believe, will only count in the final tally on Nov. 6th.. Id rather believe we are 1% behind at the present time, and the final outcome we be determined by the extra folks that I bring to the polls on election day..
My single vote will be the determining factor in ridding this nation of the cancer that has infected our country for the past 4 years..
Our future rests entirely on my back, but I am getting old, so if you have any faith in providence, or the Murphys Law principle, maybe you should have a back-up plan, in the outside chance Im wrong.. I know, right?.. :)
New Mexico is only 5 EVs, but Romney is down 10 here (Johnson has 6%). So, Romney must have a better edge in key swing states considering he is behind (slightly) in PA and MI. Looking good if he can contine the momentum past debate number two - he could score most of the swing states.
Later in the article, one of Mr. Obama’s pollsters tries to explain how a poll of “registered voters” is MUCH more accurate than one of “likely voters” even though history suggests just the opposite. Next they’ll lie about which date the election falls on, at this rate.
So the MSM are going now talk about the invevitable?
I suspected the same thing...would be interesting to see if there was a shift right after last Wednesday.
I really think 0bama is going to come on way too strong because he believes he has to to make up for the first debate, and he thinks that because the fawning media loved Biden’s performance, he’ll have to be just as aggressive. He still won’t have any real answers, and Romney will. 0bama will just up the swag quotient. But the people, especially the independents and undecideds, were turned off by Biden, and they will be turned off by 0bama if he tries it.
I think that is exactly what it is. Biden messed up. Women like Paul Ryan even when they disagree with him politically, and many did not appreciate seeing Biden act like a disrespectful blowhard towards him.
Poking cotton
“The increased support among women could at least partially be attributed to the Joe Biden effect.”
Obama’s effort to blame Hillary for the debacle in Lybia is the death knell for his campaign. It’s not because of his unwillingness to accept responsibility, it’s because he has just given every hard core liberal woman a reason not to vote for him, he has thrown the leader of their cause under the bus. Obama is not only losing more independents, he is losing liberal democrat women. They may not vote for Romney, but hey won’t be voting for Obama either.
BING! BING! BING! We have a winner!
...”I was wondering how women would feel about this mean old man bullying this respectful young man”...
Most women are maternal enough to really chafe at the kind of bullying Biden dished out against Paul Ryan, who exudes respect and character. Any fair minded person had to feel insulted, as an American, to have such a man as our Vice-President. Joe Biden told some whopping big lies at that debate, too, which is always insulting and shameful.
Tuesday’s debate could offer the meltdown point we all have been expecting...
I'm real concerned about the set-up of this affair Vet. The deck has been stacked.
Obama should start packing his panties, high heels, dope and “Hineyboy” magazine collection and get ready to move on.
Not sure that Obama “won’t have any real answers.” I find it possible that Crawley would be willing to give his campaign a head’s up as to what to study up on, even if she doesn’t out and out give the questions.
Sorry to tell everyone, but this pretend poll is biased towards us - on purpose - so they can yank it back to the previous (phony) 1 pt spread for Obama they had before after the debate, and claim “momentum” for Obozo. Regular as clockwork.
Man, that would be a dream come true. I have seen so many youtube videos of Obama's supporters showing the depth of their ignorance. It is breathtaking! They would show up on the fake date.
Many of them actually believe that they have already voted because they got polled...LMAO!
If this poll is reliable Romney doesn’t need a clear cut win over Obama in the remaining debates. Just don’t mess up like Biden did. But it would be a mistake to try to run out the clock. The MSM wants to have an “Obama rebound” theme for the next debate.
It’ll be worse if Mr. Obama makes a fool out of himself, since he’s the head of the ticket. People somewhat expect the VP candidates to be attack dogs.
Everything about the debate tomorrow night is going OUR way.
Conversation about Crowley bias is open and ongoing. IF there is any hoohah going on with her moderations then they will be so apparent and as such, go against Obozo.
Same for the questions from the audience. Anything super snarky, whiney, blame Bush stuff...then we know the audience were all plants (they are) and looks icky for Oblamo.
Obozamma The King will also be trying to out do Biden. If he doesn’t try to interrupt Romney fast during his first response then it get’s harder every minute. If he makes any sort of facial crap, grinning, smirking etc. then the camera will show it. Expect the split screen?
Finally, the open forum will allow us to see Obongo’s body language - do -not -look-at-your-watch!! I expect his nose to be in the air and slouching around.
Eagles UP!
G
Perhaps nitpicking here. But did you ever notice that when Romney is ahead its “A poll finds Romney ahead” but if Obama is up the headline is “Obama ahead by 5. So as to say....don’t worry, it’s just one poll, Obama can still come back.
Could not have said it better myself. I was interested in watching the debate, but after the first 22-25 minutes, I was so disgusted by Biden's behavior, I had to leave the room. I was sharing at work the next morning that it was unbelievable to me that this man, Joe Biden, was the Vice President of the U.S.A. ... to think that this is the best America could come up with for the one who is only a heartbeat away from being the leader of the free world. Sickened me to my very core.
Obama should start packing his panties, high heels, dope and “Hineyboy” magazine collection and get ready to move on.
I agree 2DV is great.
It’s Ryan’s puppy dog eyes.
Wisconsin late ping to new poll showing Romney ahead in swing states
FReep Mail me if you want on, or off, this Wisconsin interest ping list.
Exactly, crz. As I’ve said (and other people as well) on other threads, we don’t just need to win the election, we’ve got to overcome the theft margin.
Right, we need Romney full of energetic campaigning right into Election Day. No going home early to sleep in his own bed, sitting on his lead.
This sounds promising, especially since no less of biased entity than CBS News is releasing it no less of a biased duo than USA Today/Gallup purportedly did the polling, and still it purportedly shows Romney in a pretty good position.
BTW, I haven't seen any breakdown of the party affiliation of the sample in this poll.
For some reason, Gallup itself has yet to post the results on its web site.
The internals of this poll were interesting. Romney was doing 4 points better among women in the swing states as opposed to women nationwide. Maybe their advertising is targeting women, and working.
I don’t think the fact that Romney won made the difference. It wasn’t that Romney did better than Obama that helped him, but that he did well, and how he came across. The question isn’t about Obama, but about Romney.
The Obama campaign has been spending millions to represent a caricature of Romney, and he was able to set that aside. In the second debate, he needs to show he can connect to people in the Town Hall setting. If he does well, I don’t think it will make much difference how Obama does. People have decided already whether or not they’ll vote for him. The question is if Romney is an acceptable alternative.
Thanks justiceseeker93.
Look for the liberals to use words such as “tentative, nervous, unsure, lost” an will be accused at least once of having a “Deer in the headlights” look after what will be described as a “brilliant” question delivered with “pinpoint timing and with devastating effect”
The Left is all so predictable
They won’t be able to lie about when the election is held because by now EVERYONE knows the voting for those who want Romney as president is on November 6th and those who are voting for Obama will vote on November 7th.
