WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. — If Democrats had to pick a vulnerable tea party Republican they’d love to take out in November, Rep. Allen West would no doubt rank very high.
The bombastic freshman has spent the past two years taunting Democrats — he called President Barack Obama “probably the dumbest person walking around in America right now,” dubbed 80 of his Democratic House colleagues “communists” and told Debbie Wasserman Schultz she was “not a lady” — to name just a few of his put-downs. Yet three weeks out from Election Day, West, an Afghanistan war vet, has the look of a survivor. The freshman’s smash mouth brand of politics might seem like a poor fit for the moderate, Treasure Coast district. But West’s outsized TV presence gave him practically universal name ID out of the gate — and an enormous cash advantage — in his nasty reelection battle against 29-year-old construction firm executive Patrick Murphy.
Democrats concede that West could well win reelection; privately, some of them say they expect he will.
If there’s a secret sauce for West’s success, Republicans and Democrats alike say, it’s this: Unlike so many of the calculated, poll-tested pols in the Capitol, West actually speaks his mind. The fact that a lot of what he says is intentionally meant to provoke or beyond the pale hasn’t caught up to West, though Democrats intend to change that before Nov. 6.

When the Democrats attack him for his effective Iraq service, which saved the men of his command from an ambush, he is labeled a “criminal” and wrongly maligned as having been courtmartialed.
“Smashmouth brand of politics” and “nasty” campaign style. Shit! Double Shit! He’s up against Debbie Wasserman-Schulz (i.e. I wish I had a brain), the head of the DNC, and one of the top smear-artists in the Party. I think he’s been too polite in dealing with this nitwit, hatchetwoman.
If Wasserman-Putz were an Indian (like Elizabeth Warren), her tribal name would be “She who speaks with forked tongue and sounds like what one says when they step in buffalo crap”.

PS: THis article is a new low for Politico, but I know that they can and will go lower in the next few weeks. Nothing is beyond their dishonorable behavior. Most of their writers are so far up the Democrats ass that you couldn’t find them with a team of Proctologists and a search light.

I hate to quibble, but what West does is not rope a dope. It’s in your face smash mouth. It’s the opposite of rope a dope, which is a defensive and passive strategy.
He does what Palin does for all of us - takes a lot of the fire - giving us cover.
