Everyone who contributed to the violence and mayhem at Occupy Oakland protest marches should be held accountable - in one way or another - for their actions.
Unfortunately, that's not how it works here in Oakland.
On Friday, Oakland Police Chief Howard Jordan meted out punishment to 44 police officers for misconduct connected to Occupy demonstrations over the past year.
The discipline ranges from recommendations to terminate two officers to 30-day suspensions, written reprimands and counseling.
In comparison, 106 protesters have been charged with felonies and misdemeanors during all Occupy actions in Oakland, according to the Alameda County district attorney's office.
The only culprits missing from the lineup are the dimwit Oakland politicians whose inability to act in the city's best interests put everyone at risk - including protesters and the police they ordered to clear a month-old encampment outside Oakland City Hall.
"Jean Quan created this monster," said Councilman Ignacio De La Fuente. "I think that Quan, Rebecca Kaplan, Nancy Nadel, all the people that justified the demonstrations - are responsible for this."
Don't forget about Councilwoman Desley Brooks, who pitched a tent in the plaza in solidarity with protesters. Doesn't Jordan deserve some of the blame as well?
It's odd that after a year of destructive protests - the kind of which still take place in Oakland - the city decides that it's a whole lotta cops who need straightening out.

Every cop in Oakland should develop a severe case of Blue Flu for a couple of months.
The equal opportunity left wingers in charge of Oakland have made it a very dangerous city with over 100 murders ytd.
That stat doesn’t include the robberies, muggings, shootings, stabbings and other uncivilized actions by the thugs of Oakland.
