Can Barack Obama Mount a Credible Debate Comeback?
abc ^ | October 16, 2012

Nervous Democrats reeling from President Barack Obama's lackluster debate performance and seemingly sudden change of fortunes in the polls are being comforted by one thought: when it counts, his supporters say, he always pulls though.

"So far every time, he's done it," said one former Obama administration aide. "He's the cat with the nine lives; at the end of the day the fundamental still favor him."

Obama's Democratic allies are hoping that his next debate performance will undo the damage of his first showing, and that once again, Obama will successfully pull out a last-minute victory.

Obama campaign aides have begun using words like "aggressive" and "passionate" to describe the Obama voters will see in the second presidential debate on Tuesday.

"He didn't meet his own expectations," said Obama campaign adviser Robert Gibbs on CNN's State of the Union, Sunday. "He knew when he walked off that stage, and he also knew as he's watched the tape of that debate, that he's got to be more energetic."

According to Bill Galston, senior fellow of governance at the Brookings Institution and former Clinton administration senior advisor, when Obama is down, his competitive instinct kicks in.

"I can only imagine how an intensely competitive person is receiving the negative reviews his debate performance garnered," Galston said. "I've got to believe there's fire in his belly now to go and turn this around in the second debate."

And as New York Times Columnist Maureen Dowd put it in her column following the debate, Obama "performs better when his back is against the wall; he has some subconscious need to put himself in challenging positions."

In debate Romney can knock out Obama by saying:

When Obama said he created 5 million jobs say “ Yes 5 million jobs created in China , zero in the U.S.A “

Also when Obama talks about Romney's 5 trillion $ tax cut say”You're confused, that's the federal debt that you burdened Americans with which is greater than all 11 previous presidents combined. but you say Bush put you in the hole, no its you who put America in a crater”

Help me get these lines to Romney campaign.

Hope is not a strategy.

The comeback meme has already started. The media's goal for tonight—create an illusion of a momentum switch.

The guy is a cornered animal. We must not get cocky here and anticipate any moves he will make. Remember, a cornered animal is a most dangerous one. However, if we win this debate, I think it is almost over.

"He's the cat with the nine lives"

Is that based on how his State Senate opponents disappeared off the ballot or on how the Chicago Machine slimed his Republican opponent out of the race in the U.S. Senate bid?

Yep, Tomorrow morning will be Obama, the comeback kid. It won’t be true though. America is onto him.

Are these people even capable of telling the truth?? There were frequent reports that immediately after the debate Obama thought he had won.

NO, so far he has NEVER DONE IT (pulled it out of the fire) If anything the honest person can only say the MEDIA has DECLARED he has done it.

Big difference!

The left may as well get used to 8 years of Romney and if God is resotring us 8 more of Ryan.

Romney, "Obama, the only President to buy a car company (GM) & Insurance company(AIG) with taxpayer back credit card!"

( While the Treasury was universally expected to sell stock this month(Sept), the magnitude of the planned $18 billion offering was a surprise that will take the government stake in what had been the world's largest insurer to around 20 percent from 53 percent currently. )

“The comeback meme has already started. The media’s goal for tonight—create an illusion of a momentum switch.”

Yup.

It’ll be more of a hussein cheerleading rally than the last debate. The leftist that is moderating it has as much said that she won’t follow the debate rules, and hussein will have rehearsed axelrod’s lines better this time.

...and as per everyone’s predictions, they’ve set up the Comeback Kid storyline.

Hopefully the high expectations they’re putting on him will backfire. Harder to meet high expectations than low ones.

I hope Romney absolutely slits Obama’s throat tonight. If he does so it’ll put a huge dent in Dem morale. They’re putting an awful lot of hope and energy into this debate, and they haven’t shown any attempts to set up contingency spin in case of an Obama failure.
