I have had a website for the past 12 years. A nice website that needs a revamping. I plan on firing her up and having fun next quarter.
I found a nice local guy who can revamp it onto a wordpress softwear package and he had some nice ideas to add to the design. Price of the revamp is resonalbe I think, in the 3K range but I do have to move to his host site. and I will be moving the content over onto wordpress once the skeleton is in place. It includes the training. I have about 150 pages.
I have a logo. It isnt very clear. The tech says he needs the original which was a 8x10 ssilhouette of me that was shrunk down to logo size (I was so cute!) He says I need to come up with the silhouette in order to upgrade it, it is a little murky. I have not been able to find the silhouette original. Is there a way that the current silhouette can be enhanced?
VectorMagic will take pretty much any pixel-based format and return an SVG (there are some other output formats they provide but that’s the one I’ve used).
If you have an SVG it’s already “vectorized.” If you have an SVG of the original, you’re set.
Also remember I am a technical idiot and will need some handholding. I know enough to make me dangerous.
Thank you. I will play with it. It is perfect except for the lips.
What has to be done is to trace what picture you have in either illustrator or flash in vector format. Once that is done, you can make it any size you want.
3K for a Wordpress site? Crazy, he is going to modify a template (limited and restrictive to changes). I program every line from scratch (borrow some code for dynamic content). Second, you would be foolish to allow someone to hold your domain and content hostage. I make clients pay for their own hosting accounts which costs them around $8.00 a month. Every single item is their property and control (domain and content).
This way the client always has the option to hire someone else if they are not satisfied. I want them to have the security of firing me. Web designers that force you to use them for hosting want to give you the feeling of being trapped. The hardest thing about taking on a new job is getting the domain and content from the old designer in a lot of cases.
As far as the image is concern anyone that can not sharpen a silhouette is not a graphic designer. There are several ways to sharpen the image in Photoshop and since it is a silhouette it is easy to make it a vector image in Illustrator.
It did it at vector magic but no lips. I need lips
That's a little high but not outrageously so. Of course, it depends on how much bandwidth (how many hits) your website gets.
Does he give you the password to the folder with your index.html file? If not, he owns you; you'll have to go through him for every change/update. $$$.
Yes because once I am trained I am up and running I change and manage the site add pages, change content, upload download and have fun.
I will be looking for sponsors too! Cute ones.
I will be looking for sponsors too! Cute ones.
So you gotta get the password from him. No password no deal.
I'm not very cute, I'm sorry to say.
The only password he will get is to Wordpress content management to allow him make small changes to the content but not change the theme or have control over his files.
I expect to control everything. I did before...
he came up with some good ideas on makeing the first page look good. He also is the first person who didnt try to talk me into a dynamic database but instead let me have alll my pages.
Actually I am hoping to find a couple of sponsers and keep the site clean of most ads. I really admire FR and its clean content provision. I would like to do somewhat the same, and sponsoers may be the way to work.
Just got a letter from someone who wants to use the content on their web show.
I use Just Host for hosting.I use Rapidweaver for developing websites.
Example: Taos Fine Art Photography
Nice site. beautiful art too!
Lossy compression and the shrinking of an image (which results in great data loss) makes these sort of things dicey at best. I would instead recommend a new approach: If you are revamping your website, this might be an ideal time to revamp your logo. Think outside the box!
Laz, you want me to re-vamp my face? I had someday hoped to tighten up the chin a bit but...
So when things are made small, data is lost. Didnt know that.
You make a good point. I am going to have to think of what else would work....
Thanks Laz

to post it here.
Or, if you don't want to do that, send me the URL via FReepMail, and I'll see what can be done with it in Canvas -- a high-end graphics system with powerful vector AND bitmap manipulation capabilities.
No charge. I'll consider it a challenge and an exercise and a courtesy to a fellow FReeper.
Does it depend on Java, Javascript or Flash?
I still get your text and thumbnails displaying half-off the screen on left and right. And changing screen magnification doesn't fix it.
Are you, perchance, using iFrames in HTML5?
If you care to discuss this further, let's take it to FReepMail...
