U.S Sen. Bill Nelson and Rep. Connie Mack IV unleashed a slew of familiar attacks during the first and only debate of their U.S. Senate battle, hitting each other on health care, missed votes and, well, cows.
The banter provided plenty of fact-checking fodder for PolitiFact Florida.

Didn’t see it. What happened?
Didn’t know there was a debate. Nelson is intelligent, he’s just lazy and a far left liberal.
How did this guy win the nomination? What ever happened to the guy that Crist appointed to fill out a term vacated by Mel Martinez? Lamieux was it? I know the association with Crist is bad, but wasn’t his actual voting record solidly conservative?
The last Rasmussen poll had this down to a one point race, but I fear that may have been an outlier. I hope not. I hope this dolt can beat Nelson, but it sure looks like we may another Sharon Angle on our hands where the GOP managed to pick the worst candidate to face an unpopular, vulnerable, too-liberal, Democrat incumbent.
i find it hard to understand why if romney takes florida that mack would not win on coat tails
We had two well qualified conservative candidates in Dave Weldon and a military man whose name escapes me at the moment. Mack was supported by the RNC and defeated the other two in the August primary.
I turned it off after 20 minutes. Should have been called a TKO. Nelson escapes and will be reelected and worse this will narrow Romney’s win a tad too. Mack looked charming and alert but after that you said it all...Nelson looked and sounded like someone’s grandfather. If the result was based on appearance, Mack would have won, unfortunately he had to open his mouth and when he did he did nothing but to utter a bunch of his campaign slogans and ads all of which Nelson successfully debunked.
The ineffective hack Mack may lead to the keeping of three state supremes that should be gone too. The RINO party apparatus backed Mack. They chose not to back Akin. They will not take back the senate by backing losers.
Name recognition! My doctor, David Weldon, was a much better candidate but had no name recogniton outside his former congressional district here in Brevard County (pop. 500,000)
I didn't even see any Mack signs until last week - which was a week after absentee ballots had been mailed out. Some people probably returned their absentee ballots before they ever saw a Mack sign! (By contrast, there's a private individual around here who has been making handmade "Fire Nelson" signs and putting them up all around town for months.) The only pro-Mack campaign mailings I have gotten have been from PACs, not the Mack campaign. I haven't gotten a single robocall for Mack, though Ann Romney and others have called me several times asking me to vote for Mitt.
I just hope his campaign efforts haven't been so anemic elsewhere in the state.
Yeah, I heard that. Don’t really care, and I hope most voters don’t care about this debate either.
I look at Nelson as a Obamacare supporter. That alone is enough for me to oppose him. If Mack can hang Obama around Nelson’s neck—which is an accurate assessment by the way—Mack can win.
I’d love to see the Mack campaign use the
“Like a Mack truck” or something similar, in the race.
Of course Mack trucks will sue to stop them, etc.
Mike MacAlister was a solid Republican candidate and former military man who should’ve taken the primary election by a large margin, IMO.
Mack stuck his neck out there on name recognition alone, the RINOs loved him, and we go stuck with a lemon and probably another 6 years of Nelson’s quackery.
