Billy Graham's lurch towards Mitt Romney risks his legacy [Lib Suddenly Cares about Evangelicals]
The Guardian ^ | October 18, 2012

Posted on 10/18/2012 6:03:49 AM PDT by SoFloFreeper

As America's pastor for the past half century, Billy Graham has earned a reputation as a wise and holy man. But the respect he has gained as a man of unflinching, unerring principles has been severely compromised by his Evangelistic Association's decision to remove a reference to Mormonism from its website...

"I hope millions of Americans will join me in praying for our nation and to vote for candidates who will support the biblical definition of marriage, protect the sanctity of life and defend our religious freedoms," Graham said.

Instead, you have to ask for your liberal views to be washed away as well because your faith will always be suspect unless you subscribe to a certain brand of Christianity.

True. Take every view to the Bible and see what washes away. I noted Ted Olson was Ryan's debate partner. I don't agree with Ted Olson on gay marriage either, but so far that lie has not penetrated to become orthodoxy in the R party. When it does, I'll abandon them too.

“Billy Graham’s lurch towards Mitt Romney risks his legacy”

Not in my Book.

"for the past half century, Billy Graham has earned a reputation as a wise and holy man. "

He hasn't changed.

Perhaps those who disagree with him should reassess their positions.

Note tagline.

(BTW--I am not an Evangelical Christian. I am a very open-minded Episcopalian.)

“He sold out when he took down, “Mormonism is a cult” from his web site. Vote for Romney or not as you please, that does not change what Mormonism is.”

Oh here we go again! The BAC’s are out trying to tell us that we are electing a Pope and we should not vote for A MORMON”! So how is the snake handling going?

This whole argument is absurd. We are electing a secular official, not a theologian. Anybody but a Marxist!

Well said! I’ll take a Morman any day over a muslim, and by the way, I went to Wheaton College, the same college Billy Graham went to, and I remember him as a good person.

Well, I’m not voting for Barack Hussein Obama. It’s good you aren’t the judge of Billy Graham or anyone else.

B. Graham is Baptist and would not agree with that “holy” part.

I don't know what being a Baptist has to do about his being a Holy man.

Colossians 1:22 says that Christ reconciled Christians through his death and Resurrection (this is where the Reconciliation part comes in) to be Holy and blameless and beyond reproach. That is, all people who believe in Christ as Savior are Holy, blameless and beyond reproach.

Being a Baptist has nothing to do with it. I'm a Baptist, and I agree with it because the Bible says it.

If Jesus Christ came down (as he will someday) and personally declared that he was just as okay with Mormons as he was with Baptists, Lutherans and any other denomination which worshiped him, there would be a certain crowd who would immediately denounce him as a sellout and claim he was Unchristian.

In all fairness, the Evangelicals called Catholicism a cult as well.

No they don't, are you saying that Catholics are grouped with the cults at the site?

False, Jesus will not reject Christianity and the bible.

All Christian denominations Orthodox, Protestant, Catholic, agree that Mormonism is not a Christian religion, or part of Christianity, but that it is a different religion, made up by Joseph Smith.

Romney’s Mormonism doesn’t matter a whit to me.

His liberalism, however, does.

My own thought is this. Mormon theology is not Christian theology. The question, in my mind, is” can a Mormon come to a saving relationship with Jesus Christ despite the erroneous beliefs that he has about Him?

I don't know. I tend to believe not, but I hope that he can. I leave that to God, and advise all to examine closely the claims of Christ; be they Mormons, Scientologists, JW’s, or any member of other non-Christian religions.

But, if you choose othewise, that's between you and God.

In the meantime, here on this fallen world, the choice is not between Jesus and Obama, but between Mitt and Obama. Any vote but a vote for Mitt is a vote for Obama.

To a muslim there's a difference, you think?

No. Because Islam is more of an ideology than a personal faith. Its a form of nationalism for the Arab world with anti-western themes. That’s why obama hearts it.

No. Islam is more of an ideology than a personal faith. It’s a form of nationalism for the middle east with anti-western themes. That’s why obama hearts it so.
