PRINCETON, NJ -- The inaugural results of a new Gallup question -- posed to more than 120,000 U.S. adults thus far -- shows that 3.4% say "yes" when asked if they identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, or transgender.
These results are based on responses to the question, "Do you, personally, identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, or transgender?" included in 121,290 Gallup Daily tracking interviews conducted between June 1 and Sept. 30, 2012. This is the largest single study of the distribution of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) population in the U.S. on record. By comparison, the General Social Survey, a project of NORC at the University of Chicago, asked a sexual orientation question in its 2008 and 2010 survey of about 2,000 adults in each year. The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services' National Survey of Family Growth asked a sexual orientation question of about 12,000 young adults aged 18 to 44 in 2002 and of more than 20,000 adults in its 2006-2010 survey. The 3.4% figure is similar to a 3.8% estimate made by one of the authors of this study (Gates), averaging a group of smaller U.S. surveys conducted from 2004 to 2008.
Exactly who makes up the LGBT community and how this group should be measured is a subject of some debate.

And who gives a rats ass...? This minority needs to sit down and shut up!
That’s all? If you watch television you would think it’s 50% or more.
I doubt the results.
I thought all homosexuals were rich? Isn’t that what the media has been telling us and why retailers have sold their souls for their business?
Just curious, do you also doubt Gallup’s survey showing Romney leading by 7 among likely voters?
Well I guess I’m in the 3.4%. I’m a man who loves women. Don’t hate me because I’m a lesbian! :)
A tiny minority of faggots are a pain in the ass(pun intended).
Poor, women, minorities hit hardest.
What I find fascinating about this poll is that the percentage of gays in this country is so small, yet if you were to watch network television or the news, you’d assume half the population was homo.
Fankly, I’m not willing to bet that Gallup won’t suddenly release a poll next week showing that 7% has all but evaporated. I’ve seen this sort of thing before. Two to three weeks out, the opponent of the Left suddenly gets a surge, and then that and more are given back at just the right time.
This is all about the public perception of who has the big mo going into the election.
Would Gallop game the system? Folks will have to forgive me if I don’t deny categorically that they would.
Maybe you are lesbian trapped in a man’s body. That is why you are attracted to women.
So much for the born that way lie. More people are now claiming they’re sex perverts, since more have been recruiting or decided the pervert life is more fun.
You should care. They are rearranging society to fit their needs. They are also pushing our children to adopt their behavior. They feel they have the right to tell us what to believe, how to act, and how to live. They have a right to demean and marginalize our religion and all our beliefs, and we have none. So, yes you should care and fight back.
"Genetic predispositions"? We're still at the "maybe, maybe not" stage on whether that even exists. It's especially dicey when the "definition" of gay is itself cultural. Many languages don't even have a word for it; in contrast, there are cultures which assume that a predisposition to sodomy, as to drunkenness or gluttony, is more or less universal, and goes by the name of "concupisence."
"Puritans, Mongols and Muslims"? Show me the survey of gay Puritans, correlated with the lab results for the sequence of the gay Puritan genetic marker. Published by a reputable Plymouth Bay Colony journal prior to 1690.
Puh-leeeez.
I’d love to see the occupation breakdown:
1. Military
2. Government
3. Education
4. Airline Industry
5. Interior Decorators
etc.
I'd swear at least 25% of all house hunters on HGTV are gay.
