Salafists destroy ancient Morocco carvings: NGO

RABAT — Stone carvings in Morocco's High Atlas mountains dating back more than 8,000 years and depicting the sun as a pagan divinity have been destroyed by Salafists, a local rights group said on Wednesday.

"These stone carvings of the sun are more than 8,000 years old. They were destroyed several days ago," Aboubakr Anghir, a member of the Amazigh (Berber) League for Human Rights, told AFP.

"One of the carvings, called 'the plaque of the sun,' predates the arrival of the Phoenicians in Morocco," Anghir said.

"It lies in a well-known archaeological site in the Yakour plain south of Marrakesh, 20 kilometres (12 miles) from Mount Toubkal."

"There are several Salafist groups active in the region and it's not the first time these pre-Islamic sites have been attacked. We have sent a message to the ministry of culture, but have not yet received a reply," he added.

Salafists, Muslims who adhere to a hardline Sunni interpretation of Islam similar to that practised in Saudi Arabia, which strictly prohibits "idolatry," have enjoyed a surge in strength in Arab Spring countries, benefiting from wider freedom.

Late on Monday, one of Tunisia's main Sufi mausoleums was burned down in an overnight arson attack, seemingly the latest in a spate of attacks on unorthodox Sufi shrines by the country's increasingly assertive Salafists.

In northern Mali, which is close to Morocco, radical Islamists have destroyed ancient World Heritage shrines they consider idolatrous since seizing control of the region earlier this year.

We can all read about or see pictures of the carvings in books. The real problem here is with the people in North Africa and the Middle East. let them kill each other. The world will be a better place with fewer Muslims.

Salafis have been doing this for centuries. Heck, they destroy Muslim art. During the first Saudi kingdom, the Wahabbis destroyed shrines in Mecca. This desecration led to many Hijaz Arabs allying with the army of the Ottoman Sultan/Caliph to expel them from the holy sites and send them back to the wastland of the Nejd. The Qutbist faction of the Muslim Brotherhood is even worse. But even local North Africans did this type of this during the Almohad (al-Muwaḥḥidun)Calpihate in North Africa and Al-Andalus.

I really wonder if the civilized countries have the tools necessary to combat these extremist Muslims.

Modern states constrained by laws that these Muslims do not recognize or respect keep the lawful governments from properly disposing of these terrorist Muslims.

The Imams that sped the hate filled Muslim religion are protected by constitutional rights from imprisonment or deportation and so are free to be recruiters for the terrorist groups that send out suicide bombers, rapist and killers.

Not precisely what I had in mind but not unthinkable.

What I had in mind was more of what Vlad the Impaler did to repel the Ottoman Turk Muslim invaders in the 15th Century.

The Muslims believe in conversion by force even though their book says the opposite. But lets be real. Their book says if the unbeliever is asked to convert and he refuses the Muslim is obligated to kill the unbeliever. I consider that force.

If Muslims are willing to use force of arms to convert us to be Muslims I consider that forceful rejection of that force to be moral war. Let’s face it we are at war with a loosely organized Muslim nation. What the Muslim believers call the Caliphate.

A great portion of these Muslim warriors are financed by Iran. So it is my opinion that we cause by any means possible the fall of the Iranian government. The economic sanctions are in some fashion working but this is insufficient considering the stakes. We need military intervention to end the Iranian support of terrorist activity and an end to their belligerent nuclear development.

The Muslim expansionist respect only overwhelming force so we must repel them with overwhelming military force.

Getting back to Vlad the Implaler; the terrorist intend to use terror to bend us to their will, I suggest that we return the favor. I think that Vlad’s success with the Muslim invader may be the model to follow. You don’t argue with success.

True enough - Vlad did have a way with assholes, and I agree that he was quite effective.

I guess I still believe in the WW-II solution to adamant enemies. We gave them Hamburg and Dresden, Hiroshima and Nagasaki, and they learned that surrender was preferable to extinction.

If we remove Mecca and Medina, and do some serious damage in and around Tehran, the object-lesson would be given, and the moslems would have a chance to reflect on their future, or lack thereof.

There IS something to be said for pole-sitting, but there are just so damn many of the mohammedists now, that we might run out of lumber.
