For Obama and Romney, Small New Hampshire Could Have A Big Impact

MANCHESTER, N.H. — New Hampshire is the smallest of the battleground states, with just four electoral votes, and for much of the fall it has seemed an afterthought to the candidates as they’ve campaigned across more prominent contested states.
That changed Thursday with the arrival of President Obama at a downtown rally on a brilliant fall day. His appearance, and the later kickoff of a 24-hour campaign swing through the state by his surrogates, underscored the state’s potential significance in the competition for the 270 electoral votes needed to win the White House in November.
Ohio, Virginia, Florida and some other bigger states may be seeing the candidates on a more regular basis, but over the next 19 days, the battle for New Hampshire will be waged with the same intensity as elsewhere. The Obama and Romney campaigns differ about where the race stands here, but both agree that in an election as close as this one appears to be, no electoral vote can be taken for granted.
Recent public polls have produced conflicting portraits of the state of play here. One showed Obama with a six-point lead, while others show the race statistically tied. Obama campaign advisers say they hold the lead now and are confident they can keep it. Romney campaign officials say the race is a tossup. Democrats not working directly for the president’s campaign say they see a tie. In fact, they say that every top race in the state is tight.
“You could put a piece of paper between the two candidates right now,” Nick Clemons, a Democratic strategist with long ties to New Hampshire politics, said of the presidential race. “Both congressional races are very tight.

This is why they wanted to make sure that college students could vote here without actually being residents.
And most southern NH former Mass. residents are political refugees, not carpetbaggers. If you work in Mass. and live in NH, you pay higher taxes, not lower. Look at the past voting percentages along the border - you practically have to get to Seabrook before you even start leaning Dem.
Indeed, NH may very well represent 4 out of Mitt’s 301 electoral votes.
Sorry I just can not see this election being anywhere as close as these pollsters say it is. I see this election as being a complete route for Obama on the order of Nixon over Mondale. I think there will be a complete rout of the Democrats.
The economy is in the tank and it is not coming out of the tank until long after Obama is forcibly retired and on the lecture circuit.
Obama has beaten the US economy in to submission, made tax rate increases all but inevitable and so screwed up the healthcare industry that businesses are running away from private health insurance for their employees and major employers in this country are considering the near elimination of full time permanent employees so as to escape the ballooning cost of healthcare caused by Obama Care.
Anyone who is considering voting Democrat in this coming election is either a hopeless ideologue or is simply not paying attention.

Did you just have a “Biden moment”? I think you meant to say Nixon over McGovern (520 to 17 Electoral votes).
Either way, there’s no way that’s going to happen. Obama’s guaranteed to win far too many big states. California and New York plus almost all of New England. He’ll likely end up with 200 Electoral Votes, at least.
NH media does their very best to convince their viewers that the ENTIRE election hinges on their vote on Election Day...easily the biggest ‘attention whore’ of the fifty states.
