The Great Binder Blunder
National Review ^ | 10/19/12 | Mark Steyn

So the other morning a reader e-mails me a picture of a handful of women demonstrating outside the headquarters of the Ohio Republican party — in what we expert analysts round about this point in the quadrennial election cycle like to call the critical battleground of the Buckeye State. The women each wore two giant pieces of cardboard, front and back. Ah, I thought, a timely protest. These activists understand that, with Obama’s flatline economy drifting inexorably to a $20 trillion federal debt, we’ll soon be living in cardboard shacks in shantytowns in the parking lot of the bankrupt Solyndra factory. Or it’s what they’ll be using for the x-ray plates at your local hospital once the Obamacare rationing kicks in. Or maybe it’s the perfect visual metaphor for the flimsiness of U.S.-government security at its Middle Eastern embassies before the “Death to the Great Satan!” crowd punched through the compound like so much soggy cardboard.

But no. The women were chanting “Equal rights, not binders,” and they were protesting the following remarks by Mitt Romney at the presidential debate:

RE> I find I’m immune to most of this kind of thing. Whats my secret? I don’t watch TV news. I don’t let these people into my home or into my head.

Bravo! Here’s to talking head immunity. (Cling) Have not had broadcast or Cable TV in so long I can’t remember. Cut the Cable is what I tell everyone. Maybe it’s catching on. :)

Or is it because he has “binders full of women” (how do they all fit in there!?), and not “binders full of women’s resumes”?

Yes, that’s most of it, they are deliberately misinterpreting his comment in order to make fun of it. However, from reading some lib comments about this, I’ve discovered they are pushing another angle about the binders. They’re saying that Mitt said he requested those binders, but really, some pro-feminist group had already sent him and his opponent in the race the binders full of women, so Mitt is claiming responsibility for the binders falsely. Or something like that.

“But now, after four decades of movement on women’s rights, Romney wants to go back to when they were stationary.”

(Good line, but I would have spelled it “stationery”).

From Steyn:

"... the president declared: “I’ve got to tell you, we don’t have to collect a bunch of binders to find qualified, talented, driven young women.” No, sir! In the Democratic party, driven young women are dropping into your lap."

Their campaign is called FORWARD, you know. ;-))

This is the “Houdini election”. Obama and Axelrod are using sleight of hand to get you to watch the rabbit, while the economy and foreign affairs crash and burn.

It’s not really about women. Anybody who watched it, knows Romney just left out the word resume. No, this is just an excuse to talk about something other than Benghazi, and the economy. I mean Romney eviserated Obama on flying off to Vegas on the day 4 americans were killed in a 9/11 terrorist act. Obama and the media dont want to talk about that, so they distract us with trival crap.
