Mark Steyn: Democrats find their issue, in a binder
Orange County Register ^ | Oct. 19, 2012 | Mark Steyn

Republicans still insist on bringing up trivial, peripheral distractions like Benghazi, Obamacare, multitrillion dollar debt, unsustainable entitlements, permanent long-term unemployment, and the looming Jan. 1 “fiscal cliff.”

So the other morning a reader emails me a picture of a handful of women demonstrating outside the headquarters of the Ohio Republican Party – in what we expert analysts round about this point in the quadrennial election cycle like to call the critical battleground of the Buckeye State. The women each wore two giant pieces of cardboard, front and back. Ah, I thought, a timely protest. These activists understand that, with Obama’s flatline economy drifting inexorably to a $20 trillion federal debt, we’ll soon be living in cardboard shacks in shanty towns in the parking lot of the bankrupt Solyndra factory. Or it’s what they’ll be using for the X-ray plates at your local hospital once the Obamacare rationing kicks in. Or maybe it’s the perfect visual metaphor for the flimsiness of U.S. government security at its Middle Eastern embassies before the “Death to the Great Satan!” crowd punched through the compound like so much soggy cardboard. But no. The women were chanting “Equal rights, not binders,” and they were protesting the following remarks by Mitt Romney at the presidential debate:...

Conveniently overlooking the fact that the binders represented more than equal rights -- i.e. affirmative-action hiring.

....in the final weeks of his re-election campaign, the first man in history to spend $6 trillion and leave no trace is doing a magnificent job of cretinizing his own base. In the binders of history, this one will be worth its own tab.

I am a pretty simple man. To me Romney getting binders full of women to fill roles in his administration means that he was looking for qualified women to appoint to fill spots.

To me that was a great goal.

Any woman who dosn’t under stand what he meant should vote for Obama, because they are too fudging stupid to be a part of the new Romney Administration.

Ringed binders use to be an efficient way of organizing hard copy data files. It was a way to refine a data search to the most relevant sample set and was a lot more portable than a file cabinet.

Still, we should credit the Democrats for obeying The Law of Conservation of Mole Hills. For every puppet they elevate to the status of demigod, for every throw away remark about office organization they raise to a Civil Rights crisis, they do attempt to reduce the most serious transgressions into trivialities.

Middle East burning? Twenty-two embassies under siege? "Bump in the road."

Four dead Americans, including the first US Ambassador in 33 years? "Not optimal."

The "vision thing" apparently involves looking through the binoculars backwards for 0bama and company.
