Deadline extended for absentee ballots in Vt (Military votes to get counted - Thanks Mitt)

BURLINGTON, Vt. -Overseas Vermont voters will get more time to vote by absentee ballot.

The state of Vermont agreed to push the deadline back to November 16th. Ballots went out late to overseas Vermont residents and military personnel -- and the U.S. Justice Department sued the state - saying Vermont needed to give voters more time.

Vermont Secretary of State Jim Condos says the ballots went out late - because of a recount in the Progressive primary for Governor.

Unmentioned in the article is that the Romney campaign put pressure on Condos about this issue. Romney surely knows he has no chance to win in Vermont but everyone should appreciate that he wants all of the military votes counted.

Terrific news, thanks... as far as I’m concerned, military should vote FIRST.

Does anyone know about the other states that reported that that the military/absentee ballots would not be counted because they were not sent out in time? There were maybe 3-4 states, and I know that a law suit was filed by Mitt...don't know which states were involved.

This was the article I noticed recently:

“Jurisdictions in Vermont, Michigan, Mississippi and Wisconsin have failed to mail absentee ballots to military members by the Sept. 22, 2012, deadline established by the MOVE Act. That was 45 days before the November 6 elections, which was what was required.”

This was the article I was referring to..couldn't remember the exact details. So, does anyone know IF Mitt filed a lawsuit in the other three states listed in the Breitbart article, in order to extend the deadline for absentee ballots? Would like to know why if Mitt did not do so. Does anyone know?

It looks like Romney is trying to fix it in all the states with this problem. I found this article about Wisconsin, but it mentions the other states, as well.

“ROMNEY CAMPAIGN FILES FEDERAL SUIT TO ENSURE MILITARY BALLOTS ALL COUNT IN WISCONSIN”

http://dailycaller.com/2012/10/15/romney-campaign-files-federal-suit-to-ensure-all-military-ballots-count-in-wisconsin/

“Romney spokesman Ryan Williams told The Daily Caller that the campaign is monitoring the military ballot process across the country, not just in swing states. The campaign has also sent letters regarding potential UOCAVA violations to officials in Mississippi, Michigan, New Jersey, Alabama, and Vermont.”
