Republicans are bracing themselves for Gloria Allred to make a potentially damaging revelation about Mitt Romney, just weeks before the election.

The pro-President Obama lawyer is rumoured to be preparing for her so-called 'October surprise' in which she will strike the Republican presidential hopeful's chances by unearthing some sort of secret or scandal.

Ms Allred has refused to comment on the rumours, which first surfaced in a tweet by the Drudge Report's Matt Drudge on Thursday.

'Here she comes. Hearing Gloria Allred out there again, about to make a move. After all, it's her time of the campaign. Team O at the ready!!' Mr Drudge wrote on Twitter.

According to RadarOnline.com, Ms Allred launched a last minute strike on GOP Meg Whitman's campaign for governor of California by representing a disgruntled former housekeeper.

“I can’t imagine its anything of any real importance. I can’t stand Romney and even I know he’s squeaky clean as far as secrets are concerned.”

It doesn’t matter if he’s squeaky clean. What matters is that we have enough stupid people in this country who will believe anything, especially if they see it on the “news”.

Hopefully enought people have already made up their minds so whatever this witch does will have very little impact, but you never know. Too many people in this country believe their lives are part of some reality show. To them the facts don’t matter. They want to know the dirt. If it ends up being something that isn’t true, that’s not a big deal to them. Notice how after Cain stepped aside all of those allegations went away. There was never anything to them. Still, the average idiot out there believes everything they were told about him, because it was ON THE NEWS!

This feels like an instance of hysteria and blogpimping to me.

My take is that this will probably have the same legs that Obama’s birth certificate had: pretty much zero. As someone said upthread, they’ve tried murderer and tax cheat.

On the other hand, ex-Bush press secretary Dana Perino said that the Republicans have another “October surprise” Obama tape.

LOL! Somebody needs to tell the Brits the only thing we're 'bracing' for is to try to keep from wetting ourselves with laughter.

“The difference with Hermain Cain is that he was nearly a complete unknown and rival Republicans didn’t mind if his candidacy was submarined. Cain had other issues too which all became magnified when nobody knows who the guy is, and he’d never held elective office before either.”

I know it’s off-topic, but this really exposes the double-standard that exists today and is fueled by the MSM. There was a guy not too long ago who was also more or less a complete unknown, barely had any experience on a national level, and everyone was supposed to ignore whatever issues he had because they only existed in the minds of racists. That person’s issues were not magnified by the same people who were over the top in their attacks on Cain; they were completely ignored. That person was pushed all the way to the presidency by the same people who demanded that Cain get lost just a few years later because HE didn’t deserve to be a candidate.

There is still time for preventative action... see reply #3, above. Let’s not take a chance and get caught flat-footed. With a few calls, we can sic an ARMY of hungry GOP lawyers on her.

Could I just tell you that this is why I'm suspicious of this whole thing?

With all due respect, what moron thinks Mitt Romney and his allies need to get a phone call from me to know about this and take it seriously? Gee, Silverback called, this must be serious. Better call the lawyers. I'm sure glad he called, I never would have thought a bunch of vicious liberals who trade in lies and demonization would attack me in the last two weeks of the campaign. Duhhhhhhhhhhhhhh...."

Second, what moron thinks the way to handle this is to make sure that the top headline on Monday is "Romney campaign goes to court to hide shocking revelation?"

Third, I'm sure it's no coincidence at all that the conservative blog that is now being quoted in multiple newspapers on this issue was laboring in obscurity until less than 48 hours ago.

Good grief, let's get a grip here.

Allred hasn’t figured out yet that people have tired of her antics, and turn off her message because of the messenger.

Too little, too late.

The MSM has already started hedging their bets. They’ve got a bad pony, and they know it.

Candy Crowley was their high water mark. They have started to realize they are not dealing with W but with a very powerful and well-connected guy.

They’re going to need access in a Romney administration, and they know it. Gloria will be a liability to them - I don’t think they will play this time.

I knew it and said they’d pull something like this two weeks before the election

Our side has the dead gay guys — Obama’s b*** buddies — in his church choir. And Larry Sinclair. And the mom of on of his former lovers who was conveniently assassinated as Obama began his run for Senate.

Ya see, the Romney campaign has to handle this like the wise guys used to down in Little Italy, with a phone call:

“Hey Gloria, you remember that little incident you and...had in the motel off of the Jersey Turnpike back in 1982? Yeah? Well, we got some photos...that’s right. We got lots of them. So if you’re thinking about playing your little games with Mitt...fuhgettaboutit!”

“They’ve already tried murder and tax evasion. What’s next? He actually drank a cup of coffee when he was 20?”

Usually with Gloria involved it will most likely have something to do with Mitt’s so called bad treatment of an illegal alien that worked for him. That is how Gloria works.

Nothing damaging there.

Altough the Tagg surrogate story is a little strange and also I thought so when I first heard it.

Thanks for the link. I guess Dunn doesn’t realize how stupid he sounds by even bringing up those issues. Wow. He asked a woman 8 months pregnant, not to abort her baby. Vanity Fair interviewed ONE former employee of Bain who was talked into saying something derogatory about Mitt. And it goes on. For all of those supposed derogatory claims, there’s probably multiple individuals who would step forward in Mitt’s defense.

If his private world view is that women should have a role that appears subservient to libs, they are peeing up a rope. Christianity and Judaism also have that world view, as it appears to others. What both these religions do is place on a pedestal the important duties that belong most ly to women, but to outsiders anything that doesn’t involve women peeing standing up is not good enough.

Romney is a religious man, and calling him faithful is not news.

And if he was short or rude to some chick somewhere once, it would be one of the very few. Like George bush, you didn’t find a whole lot of people treated badly by him. But you can’t please everybody.

And Meg Whitman is a raving b!tch, so that was an easy target to imagine her mistreating her Nicki.

I think the Romney campaign needs to quietly contact the Obama campaign and tell them...”we have some very interesting information about the gay scene in Chicago. You need to tell Gloria”.

They are desperate to derail Mitt before monday night.

I doubt it. It would be more effective if they hold off till after Monday night, thus preventing Romney from having a forum with 50 million+ people to challenge the accusations.
