Millennial generation could kill the NFL
ChristianScienceMonitor ^ | October 19, 2012 | Morley Winograd and Michael D. Hais

Many protective mothers and fathers of Millennials aren't allowing their kids to play tackle football because of health risks. These attitudes could close the NFL’s pipeline to many talented players. But these concerns also have the potential to change the violent NFL culture for the better.

Professional football has been America’s favorite spectator sport since 1972 when baby boomers became the most important TV audience demographic. Steve Sabol, the genius behind NFL Films that helped to popularize the NFL in the 1960s, captured the drama and danger of pro football with his slow motion films of big violent hits backed by stirring music.

Pro football, depicted by Mr. Sabol as a confrontation between good and evil in which there can be only one winner, matched the values of baby boomers a half century ago. But this focus is not as appealing to the Millennial generation with its focus on win-win solutions and an instinct for avoiding confrontation.

They can keep it violent. Just import Jihadi’s from Muslim nations as the new players.

Never liked football. It wouldn’t break my heart to see it replaced with a sport with cultural value, like women’s beach volleyball.

I think this will, even more so than today, make this a black sport altogether. White suburban moms will steer their boys to soccer.

>>a confrontation between good and evil in which there can be only one winner<<

When Baltimore wins, evil wins.

There has never been nor ever will be a more thuggish team in the NFL.

Fixed it for you.

I have always like football, but rule changes have made the game go down hill. It hasn't been the same since the introduction of the forward pass (sarc).

There are probably more injuries in soccer than in football. The knees and ankles are by far the more sensitive of joints in the body and repeatedly being tackled coupled with the lengthy games with little pauses leads to alot of exhaustion (to the extent that some players have had heart attacks on the field) and leg breaking, or more frequently torn muscles/tendons.
People like to joke that its a prissy sport but it does have alot of contact and injuries.

There are probably more injuries in soccer than in football.

I am an oldtimer so to speak. I miss the good old days of smash mouth grind it football. I was not a Bears fan, but Butkus was a monster who would not have been able to play his game today.

Today's football is nothing but sissified arena ball as far as I am concerned. you may not like my $.02, but so what.

I don’t know about other parts of the country...but there is no shortage of youth playing organized football here.
