Tidal Wave: The Houston Chronicle Endorses Mitt Romney
Big Journalism - Breitbart ^ | October 21, 2012 | Michael Patrick Leahy

Posted on 10/21/2012 12:24:02 PM PDT by Cincinatus' Wife

On Sunday The HoustonChronicle, which in 2008 broke a 44 year tradition of backing Republicans and endorsed Barack Obama, endorsed Mitt Romneyfor President in 2012:

>>>Like so many others,we were captivated by the Illinois senator's soaring rhetoric and energized by his promise to move American politics beyond partisan gridlock and into an era of hope and change.

It hasn't happened. Four years later,PresidentObama's deeds have failed to match his words, much less his specific vows to cut the national debt by half and bring the nation's unemployment rate to 6 percent. As Texans,it is a particular vexation that this president's attitude toward the interests of our state has occasionally bordered on contempt, particularly in decisions relating to the NASA budget and the energy sector. The hurtful symbol of this attitude of insensitivity to Texans' feelings was the administration's choice to deny Space City's bid to become home to one of the retired space shuttles.

.......In our 2008 endorsement we cautioned the president against demonizing the energy sector-good advice that he has never heeded (see KeystoneXLPipeline). By contrast,Gov.Romney has listed energy atop his five-point plan to rejuvenate the economy.....

The other launch pad ignored by PresidentObama is the literal one-NASA,and specifically the JohnsonSpaceCenter.

It has been an insult to the memory of American heroes like Neil Armstrong and Sally Ride to allow manned spaceflight to languish in the country that put men on the moon. The notion of paying $50 million a seat to Russia for commercial taxi service to the International Space Station is galling.

Obama has failed to articulate a bold vision of his own for the agency. That failure forsakes a legacy of scientific achievement that has showered benefits on the nation. This approach to NASA has abandoned the American imperative of lighting out for the territory and exploring new worlds. NASA's legacy must be reclaimed....

That makes Dallas Morning News and Houston Chronicle for Romney. Those idiots in San Antonio are endorsing obozo. I can’t find where Austin A/S holes are but we can certainly guess...

If I hadn’t booked late and will lose money I would cancel my trip tomorrow to San Antonio if I saw their endorsement in time.

Just got back from a business trip to Houston. No offense, Houstonites, but what an armpit! It has all the traffic of Los Angeles with none of the attractiveness.

"Socialism: The sweet siren song of the shortcut promising us that we don't have to work, that we don't have to think, that we don't have to plan... someone else will be doing those things for us....................Socialism is the promise that the tool we made can be a better master for us, than we could be for ourselves. But to believe that we first have to believe in magic. We have to believe that the things we make are better at running our lives than we are. We have to accept that the collective is better than the individual, that the corporate is wiser than the lone man or woman. And when we come to believe that, and bow before the icon of socialism that we ourselves have made, then we have chosen to irrationally believe in magic. A magic that is all inside our heads, the sweet siren song of the shortcut promising us that we don’t have to work, that we don’t have to think, that we don’t have to plan… someone else will be doing those things for us." That makes Dallas Morning News and Houston Chronicle for Romney...

Houston is humming and it should (will) be roaring. Texas is still standing and Houston is bed rock solid (if sitting on "gumbo" clay).

The Orlando Sentinel endorsed Romney.

Tampa-St.Pete Times went for Obama.

If you had been in Houston in the mid 70’s when the price of oil dropped to the bottom, the traffic would have been to your liking, there wasn't any. That's one way Houston folks judge the economy. Personally I'll take heavy traffic. I never thought of LA as attractive but I guess it's just your point of view.

I’ve visited Houston several times and found it attractive....don’t know where it gets it’s ugly reputation. It’s not Kansas City with more fountains than Paris, but it’s nice.

Some may call Houston an armpit, but it's a thriving armpit...thanks to business friendly state laws and our can-do, "if you don't want to work hard for this job, the next guy will" attitude.

In addition to projects waiting to start, we're also hearing that owners and companies will release even more projects - more than we can imagine - across the state, once Romney is elected. I imagine the same will hold true, across the country.

Like Rush said, it will be a recovery like we've never seen!

Idiotic naifs at the Houston Chronicle. What exactly did they think he'd do when he said he would bankrupt power companies trying to build coal plants and "other countries wouldn't be alright with us heating our buildings to 72F and driving SUVs"?

Let's hope they've learned something in four years...never trust lying communists.

[Art.] Obama has failed to articulate a bold vision of his own for the agency.

That's because he can't articulate it -- it's the junk heap, which he couldn't explain. He hates NASA and Texas because they're too American, too proud, too accomplished, too free, and just too damn white!

The guy's a racist and hates Texas and Texicans.

Sept 8, 2012: Texas spends big bucks suing federal government "The slogan goes, "Don't Mess With Texas." But with President Barack Obama in the White House a more appropriate cry might be: "Try it and we'll sue."

The Texas attorney general's office has filed 24 lawsuits against the federal government since Obama took office — litigation that has cost the state $2.58 million and more than 14,113 hours spent by staff and state lawyers working those cases.

....Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott said the costs are worth it, calling the litigation "a fight against the unprecedented ideology coming from the Obama administration." In an interview, he said the legal battles he wages are meant to promote industry and protect Texas jobs.

Abbott took office in 2002 and sued the federal government three times between 2004 and 2007 while fellow Republican George W. Bush was president. But the floodgates opened under Obama, with Texas suing two dozen times since 2010. Sixteen of Abbott's lawsuits challenged environmental regulations.

....Texas has won five of Abbott's 27 cases, lost eight and had two others dismissed because the regulations or laws being challenged were lifted or repealed by Congress. The other 12 are pending....."

Thanks for the kind words.

We're sort of in the boo-bird seat in this election. We won't come out well no matter who wins, so I just want to get Ted Cruz up to the Senate (the Chronicle endorsed him, too -- got me reaching for the Tums), beat Nick Lampson (the Eternal Tool of Nancy), and get people in the SREC working on nominating Sarah in a challenge to Mittens three years from now.

I'm really concerned that Mitt's going to sign off on homosexuality, the death of marriage, and opening the floodgates to Mexico.

How about noting that Obama HUSSEIN’S TOP CHARGE to his newly appointed Head of NASA wasn’t to run a Superior Space Program for Our AMERICA! but rather, the Administrator was charged with bringing today’s arested development 8th Century MUSLIM TERRORISTS into the Space Program and crediting their Camel Dung and Stoning of Women with the reason America landed Man on the Moon and Landed on Mars
and explored the Universe! SICK and Perverted and Treason!!!! HUSSEIN shut down America’s Space Program to prove HE is the PROPHET OF ALLAH TO ALL MUSLIMS!

Houston is flat maybe that’s why it’s considered ugly. But we have magnificent oaks and huge pine trees , more before last years drought but we still have plenty. We have beautiful neighborhoods and tacky ones, old and new. It has been a long time since I have been to LA so I guess I shouldn’t comment. People always talk about Houston’s long hot humid summers (yes) but never mention our cool (sometimes)dry fall, winters and early springs. Oh well, we really don’t need anymore transplants, so let them think what they will.

I agree with what you said but the word TexiCan came out of a John Wayne movie. The old original settlers were called Texians, just ask my grandfather, he knew some of them. Oh wait........ you can't he was born in 1879 and died in 1962.

He talked to his grandchildren a lot about the “old Texians”.

.....the word TexiCan came out of a John Wayne movie.

Out of two of them at least: Wayne (and Richard Boone, I think) used it in The Alamo and later on in True Grit, Wayne addressing Glen Campbell's character. Unless it was an ad-lib by Wayne, the term will have been used in the original novel, too. I'm sure it was heard from time to time in the 19th century.

There was a movie called The Texican in 1966 (Audie Murphy, Broderick Crawford).

Urban Dictionary:

A Texican is person of european decent in Texas. [Originally, an English-speaking colonist, = "Texian".] A Tejano is a person of hispanic decent in Texas.

But modern Tejanos also use the word "Texican" about themselves as well. So you can call them "Mexicans", "chicanos", "Texicans", and "Tejanos".

What I want to know is what all these true-blue Texafarians are going to do about those New Mexico fellers, Raul Grijalva and them no doubt, sending over Zozobra to burn up Big Tex?

Good, I'm glad to see somebody is trying to do the right thing. Give that man a bigger office. More staff cars. More lawywers and paralegals. He works.

Now pretty soon we'll have to decide whether Greg A. will be the next Goobernor, or if he'd do more good as Lite Governor, or maybe U.S. Senator replacing John Cornyn, who could be worse but cannot brag that he has sued Barky's ass off 24 times!!

That is a pretty powerful brag.
