"The last thing we need right now is for the price of food to go up even more"

They already have to list ingredients on the package. The new law will just mean they cannot hide the GMO on the existing ingredient list. Virtually zero cost to do this.

Post 33: “You are an anti American.

To know if someone is putting something into the food supply that may harm you or your family is part of the ‘transparency’ that goes along with a free society.”

Post 38: “But those who hate America and our independence love this proposition.”

Your post 33 and 38 are totally contradictory.

So which is it?

Free enterprise does not mean socialist programs supported or hidden by the government, as much as that would please you.

A person who believes that they alone own their own body, also believes they should be able to decide what they ingest.

That view is antithetical to the socialist doctrine you espouse.

That is why you are trying to Alinsky the discussion away from conservatives.

There is no GOP in California.

That ‘they’ threw Tom McClintock under the bus to elect Arnold the Austrian Socialist to the governorship is proof positive.

Why be afraid to offend? These people don’t care about the conservative view point and freely use Alinsky tactics to shut us up.

They will not afford you the same courtesy.

I'm so tired of you idiots thinking that all GMOs are eeevil frankenfoods.

Let me give you an example of a benign GMO product: One can now buy stone fruit and pomme fruit trees that bear virtually any month of the summer you wish. One can even get grafted trees that have three to four bearings on them such that you have fresh fruit most all the time without too much fruit at any one time. It reduces the load on the tree too. Control of and spreading out time of harvest is very important to farmers, who can then arrange their production in such a way that averages out the price they get. It means you get locally grown food for a longer time period. It also reduces their risk that a weather anomaly will take out the entire crop.

The only purpose for the modification was date of harvest; the fruit itself is absolutely NO DIFFERENT. The only reason they use recombinant technology to produce these trees is that it is cheap, accurate, and reliable compared to classic hybridization. Do you really want to punish those people because you are so terrified of Monsanto that you don't have a clue about what is or is not healthful about a particular modification? Why not subscribe to a service you trust to make those determinations if you are so worried about it?

Look at what Prop 65 did re cancer causing chemicals. The labels are everywhere to the point that they are meaningless. Did it work?

The last thing we need is carte blanche for a transnational (meaning they have NO allegiance to any country) corporations to add any thing, drug, poison whatever to our food supply with absolutely no oversight.

If you want oversight, pay for the service. If you trust the government to do it for you, well, you should know better.

Did you read post 40 by 1035rep?

Funny you should mention Tom McClintock. 1035rep quotes him in post 40, with the link:

“This is the latest effort of the Nanny Left to tell us what to eat. It requires foods that contain any ingredients resulting from biotechnology advances to carry the scary warning: “GENETICALLY ENGINEERED.” There is not a shred of evidence that biotechnology is the least bit dangerous - it often reduces the need for pesticides. To avoid branding their products with the Scarlet Warning, food processors would have to prove that every scrap and crumb in their fare is devoid of biotechnology or face crushing lawsuits. Grocery prices high enough yet?

http://www.tommcclintock.com/blog/tom-on-the-california-2012-propositions

Do you consider Tom McClintock a socialist and a student of Alinsky — as you have been accusing those who oppose this proposition?

"I am someone who is not falling for the phony “protect the environment and protect the children” slogans that mask an attack on capitalism and our economy, giving the government more and more control over our lives.

People who want to have government control everything and “take care of them” should move to Cuba, China, Venezuela, or N Korea or could stay here and vote for Obama."

Actually, the corrupt companies against this legislation are Crony Capitalists, like the kind they have in China. They are partners with the corrupt government workers and politicians that they pay for. You should learn the difference between Crony Capitalism and Free Market Capitalism. Be a little skeptical of companies like Monsanto and DuPont.

So wrong. They don't want you to KNOW what you eat. They want you to be addicted to their product so you eat it and nothing else. Semonyx HEK 293 .

Subscribing to a service? Will that bring me good health?
Thanks for the name calling though... impressive.

There are huge differences between hybridization and zoonotic engineering of seeds.

If your undies are in such a twist..why don’t we bring back DDT?

PS. to the later dude... Tom McClintock lost for a reason, it wasn’t due to his effectiveness.

What is a biotechnology advance? Is is it something paid for by Californian taxpayers like Prop 71?

They want you to spend more on the “ORGANICALLY GROWN” stuff.

I just know that toad Barbara Boxer is somehow involved in this nonsense.

My default position on the props is no. I have not seen anything here to change my mind. When you go in the store and see the prices of the “organic” food it gives you a shock. My guess is this prop will have the same effect
Substantially higher prices.

You oppose country of origin. You want us to eat food from China, possibly contaminated with non human use antibiotics, melamine, whatever.

You don’t care if Americans are poisoned by the food the globalists, by their ‘free trade’ policies, force into the American marketplace.

I get what you’re saying. To know where your food comes from and what is in it, is a ‘barrier to trade’ free traitor.

Too bad, some Americans want to live and produce healthy offspring.

When you start to suffer degenerative diseases that are caused by certain foods, you may change your tune, if you want to live.
