Monday's Third Presidential Debate

By Mr. Curmudgeon:

A headline in Sunday's Washington Post foreshadows doom for President Obama's re-election hopes: "In Close Presidential Race, Foreign-Policy Debate Likely to Prove Pivotal." No two events are more damning of Obama's foreign policy initiatives than his administration's support for the Arab Spring, which inspired the president's ill-conceived military intervention in Libya.

During the second presidential debate, President Obama expressed outrage that Romney would question his administration's attempt to pin the deaths of Ambassador Chris Stevens and three others on a "spontaneous" Libyan mob reacting to an anti-Islamic video posted on YouTube.

Any "suggestion that anybody in my team, whether the secretary of state, our U.N. ambassador, anybody on my team would play politics or mislead when we've lost four of our own, Governor, is offensive," said Obama.

As revelation after revelation proved the president and his foreign policy team lied about the deadly Libyan attack, and deflected attention from an Al Qaeda 9/11 anniversary assault on American soil (which U.S. embassies clearly are), the press became uncharacteristically insistent that the administration explain itself.

Afraid he might be confronted with hard follow-up questions concerning his Libyan falsehoods, Obama made an appearance at a sober and serious foreign policy venue to explain - Comedy Central. "Every piece of information that we got - as we got it - we laid it out to the American people," Obama told the Daily Show's Jon Stewart. "... [When] four Americans get killed, it's not optimal."

Conservative media had a field day with Obama's response and completely missed what followed.

"... What happens during the course of a presidency is that, you know the government is a big operation," the president continued, "At any given time, something screws up, and you make sure that you find out what's broken, and you fix it. And you know whatever else, you know I have done throughout the course of my presidency, the one thing that I've been absolutely clear about is, America's security comes first."

And there, from the president's lips, came the greatest indictment of Progressivism.

Big government, Progressives tell us, is the answer to all our problems: their bureaucrats can plan our old-age retirement; plan our health-care needs; manage the environment around us; direct our economy; and plan the democratic development of foreign governments - even Islamic ones.

This Progressive government behemoth stumbled us into a second Great Depression; wasted nearly six trillion dollars unsuccessfully trying to "fix" the problem; oversaw a dramatic spike in poverty and food-stamp dependence; directed scarce tax dollars toward green-energy boondoggles; and denied added security to a foreign U.S. diplomatic mission whose ambassador confided to his dear diary that Al Qaeda thugs had put a price on his head.

Did any of you notice the gargantuan octopus in the room? Big government spends an inordinate amount of time trying (and failing) to fix its screw-ups - destroying millions of lives in the process.

Living in a free society comes with a price: that free men and women are responsible for themselves. That the arbitrary nature of life deals us all some bad breaks. Consider this the curse of freedom.

Authoritarian governments, on the other hand, promise a "social safety net" to soften life's blows and regulations geared to protect us from sharp, pointy objects. They curtail our freedom while failing to come through on their promises. So, in defense of the authoritarian Progressive octopus, Obama assures us it can be fixed if the beast is allowed to grow more tentacles.

Obama's declining re-election prospects are not due to his foreign policy blunders alone. It's that a growing number of Americans no longer view the Progressive octopus as a cute, cuddly multi-armed Sesame Street Muppet dispensing goodies to one and all. Millions are slowly recognizing the inescapable fact that the fumbling tentacled monster of state is as accomplished at squeezing out the life's blood of economies -- and the liberty and happiness of its citizens -- as it is at getting U.S. ambassadors killed.

Have you prayed for Romney’s success in tonight’s debate? It won’t be watched by as many viewers because of baseball and football competition, but it is still important.

Hopefully, Romney will hammer the Worst Commander in Chief Ever over the fact that he did nothing to inform the nation for some 15 hours, then made a general statement of regret, and then took off to raise cash in Vegas. If Romney can’t make mince-meat out of Obama on that alone, he’s not trying.

I disagree. Debates matter. It's the only time most people see Romney without the lying filter of the MSM. The press lies about Romeny - Obama lies about Romeny. The biased one-sided moderators would if they could - but they're unable to totally stop the public from seeing Romney. That's why the debates are important.

Watch Obama too - he's no where near as impressive as the press makes him out to be. He's a disappointment... big time. Obama NEVER says what he's going to do - he stands there and tells us what Romney's thinks. Is that silly or what?

Of course he's wrong. No one can read minds - especially NOT Obama.

Then Romeny, like a kind school teachers has to explain to the idiot Obama that he's wrong. Then he tells us how he really feels.

Each time it happens people all over American are yelling at their TV's saying 'tell us how YOU feel Obama and let Romney tell us how HE feels." It's so stupid. Obama - define yourself. Let Romney define himself.

And explain the bows Obama... and why all the stories about Benghazi... The only people slavish enough to believe 10 different stories are members of the press. And why were you Obama afraid to meet with them - why Letterman and the Daily Show? The Press crawls to you on their knee pads every day - and still you blow them off? What's with that?

Let's get some real answers tonight - oh wait, the dem PR firms won't include those questions in the ones they prepare for the so called journalist of the moment...
