UN to Monitor 'Republican Voter Suppression' this November

By Mr. Curmudgeon:

We can all breathe a sigh of relief. 150 observers of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE), a United Nations-affiliated elections watchdog, will be on hand this November 6 to assure America's presidential balloting is fair and clean.

Just in case you were wondering, no, they won't be monitoring Chicago's electoral corruption - where eager souls vote early and often, or rise from the dead just for the occasion.

According to The Hill, the NAACP, ACLU and the Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights approached the OSCE to express their concern that Republicans were engaging in "efforts to suppress minority voters likely to vote for President Obama," said The Hill.

I have no doubt that many reading this column are doubling their blood pressure meds to keep their heads from exploding. I, on the other hand, am smiling ear to ear.

It's clear the organized left sees President Obama's presumed slam-dunk re-election as a lost cause. They are now groping for any excuse to declare the upcoming Mitt Romney administration illegitimate.

According to Mark Karlin, editor at the lefty website Buzzflash, "... Voter fraud at the polls is statistically almost non-existent in the United States. However, the Republicans, through such surrogates as the Tea Party-leaning 'True the Vote' and laws inhibiting the most basic right of democracy - voting - have created an illusionary perception of hordes of illegal voters ... It is appropriate that the United Nations monitor US elections, despite its small contingent.  After all, the Republican Party is conducting a war on democracy.  What we are seeing is an effort to create a de facto apartheid system of casting ballots for our government."

However, before we get lost in the weeds over UN bureaucrats observing American elections, here's an excerpt from the OSCE report on the 2010 midterm elections (a.k.a., the "Shellacking"):

"The emergence of the Tea Party in the US political scene featured prominently during the campaign. The Tea Party is composed of groups of different sizes, objectives and levels of organization, unified by the idea to make a joint conservative front against politics in Washington. The Tea Party received strong support from influential conservative think tanks and publicists [FreedomWorks and Glenn Beck]. The efforts of the movement were not always welcomed by the Republican Party establishment, which had concerns that overly conservative candidates would not attract sufficient support from moderate voters to win their races."

I don't know about you, but that UN report was more evenhanded than anything that appeared in the New York Times or on any of the major television networks. And the outcome of the 2010 midterms gave Republicans "the largest legislative landslide in U.S. history," says Joe Scarborough in his Monday column at POLITICO.

That seismic victorydestroyed theabsurd GOP establishment argument that Tea Party candidates were too "extreme" - just ask Indiana's Sen. Dick Lugar.

The left is angry, of course, at new state laws requiring voters to provide identification before entering the voting booth. If, as Buzzflash's Mark Karlin insists, voter fraud is "statistically almost non-existent in the United States," there is one way to find out ... let's see some ID.

After all, the very UN election observers searching for Republican "voter suppression" were required to present photo identification (a passport) before entering the U.S. I'm sure they are even required to present photo identification before entering UN headquarters in New York.

That's the least we should require of those that would elect the next President of the United States.

We need to tell our state leaders to do exactly what Mike Hubbard, Speaker of the Alabama House is doing.

“... In response to news that poll watchers affiliated with the United Nations will be sent across the country to monitor balloting in various states and search for evidence of “voter suppression” during the upcoming November 6 presidential election, Speaker of the House Mike Hubbard said he will support legislation in the next session requiring all poll watchers in Alabama to hold U.S. citizenship.

“The United States is the worldwide beacon of free elections and the Republican form of government, so having an international squad from the United Nations playing referee in our elections is insulting and absurd,” Hubbard said. “We’ve been holding elections in the U.S. for the past 223 years without the United Nations playing a role or enforcing the rules, and we certainly don’t want or need them now.”

At the request of several liberal-leaning groups including the American Civil Liberties Union, the NAACP and the Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights, the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe, a United Nations affiliate, announced it will deploy a team of poll watchers to polling sites across the country in order to monitor and document potential disputes.

The poll watchers will come from Serbia, Belarus, Ukraine, Kazakhstan, Germany and France, and other countries.

Hubbard said he will push the law in order to ensure U.N. observers are blocked from future elections in Alabama by allowing only those who are U.S. citizens to be certified as poll watchers in the state.

“If you can’t participate in an election in the United States, and if you can’t cast a vote in the United States, you really have no business serving as a poll watcher in an election being held in the United States,” Hubbard said. “It’s bad enough that Alabama remains trapped under the provisions of the Voting Rights Act, so we certainly don’t need anyone from the United Nations coming into our state and meddling in our elections, as well.”

And in this current election cycle if anyone is approached by a so called UN poll watcher, call the police and have the UN official arrested for voter intimidation.

"They urge the OSCE “to deploy its limited election monitors in those states where restrictions on voting have been most extensive—Pennsylvania, Ohio, Florida, Texas and Wisconsin. Poll monitors should be particularly vigilant about requests for, and acceptance of, identification of those seeking to vote, particularly if certain groups, such as racial minorities and young voters, are being targeted.”

“Our response must be commensurate with the sophistication and resilience of these voter suppression efforts,” said Wade Henderson, president and CEO of The Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights. “We’ve fought back through litigation, ballot initiatives, voter education, and public pressure. Adding an experienced and independent monitor to the polls would go even further to ensure the integrity of this election.”"

FReep them until they are outside the 100ft poll limit for politickin'.

Why can’t we just dump the UN? We dropped the League of Nations, so it’s not as if it can’t be done.

Republicans ‘suppress Democracy’ (or Mobocracy as I like to call it). There are consequences for mob rule that the Dems should be familiar with by now. Just because they make up some law, doesn’t mean they can enforce it. They have to have consent from the governed to enact such whims. Unfortunately, we see that our neighbors, who are voting Democrat Party, would gladly allow government force to be used to take from you what they think is rightfully theirs now. (See-”You didn’t build that!”) What will they do when the loyal opposition does not comply with their wishes to give them more and instead produce less or engage in ‘capital strike’. My 90+ yo German mother describes what happened when some individuals did not comply with the wishes of the mob.
Prepare accordingly.

Indeed, there IS voter intimidation!

The most common electoral offense observed by Poll Watchers in my part of Texas is bullying of voters by democrat election Clerks and Judges. They stand behind the voters so they can see who they are voting for and bully them if they see that the voter (mostly poor minorities) have the temerity to vote for a Republican!

I am happy to say that True The Vote (www.truethevote.org) and other Poll Watchers are having an impact. After several elections, the democrat precinct are responding to the continual complaints and reluctantly cleaning up their act.

Not that voter fraud and intimidation are dead, but we are making progress.
