Words don't matter as much as body language when voters decide on the man they trust to lead the nation. Despite all the policy debates, all the fact checking, all the pundits, we don't weigh and balance and research, not most of us.
We don't even use our forebrains. We use the most primitive part of our brains, the part that can smell danger, that smells who is the alpha male, who is the omega, who is the rogue. The nose knows who is the real leader.
We can smell a winner.
Mitt Romney passed the smell test for the third time last night, and Barack Obama failed.

Great article. I was just going to post it myself and found this on search.
People decide stuff on gut instinct, and then try to justify their guts by facts. I’m not saying that’s a bad thing. It just is.
That’s why Romney’s going to win.
I think Romney won the election on the night of the first debate.
Up to that point Obama had spent $600 million trying to pain Rommney as this evil, uncring, unreachable, unfeeling goblin who was not fit for the Presidency and whom people should run away from.
Then 70-80 million people saw him with their own eyes and saw that he was articluate, that he has a well thought out plan to get us out of this mess, that he had a sense of humor, and that he cared deeply about America. That night they were able to contrast him directly with Obama without any political ads and they saw Obama as a man with no plan, who really did not like being on that stage, and who was the one who was distant. They had the opportunity for the first real time to compare the two, one against the other, and use their own good sense, intellect and judgement.
And a whole bunch of them chose that night.
Every other debate and the night when they both spoke at the Catholic charity dinner, Romney has done nothing bu strengthen this image of himself, which is the antedote to the Obama attack ads.
As a result, the polls swung to Romney and have stayed there ever since.
Obama’s entire campaign was a campaign of negativity against Romney. He cannot run on his economic record. it is abysmal. He has not set forth any kind of clear, detaile dplan for the furutre...so we must presume it is a repeat of what he has done so far...and it will be. So, when the main pillar of his campaign came down...his campaign came down.

Look at my profile. This isn’t a new revelation about Obama.
I agree..Obama will be remembered for totally failing on the 1st debate..last night’s debate since it was foreign policy, less people watched..but what they did see last night was Mitt Romney prepared to be President..a man who looks Presidential..meanwhile Obama looked like a guy who is about to be fired and is begging to keep his job.
The American People saw a petulant man-child last night, and they decided they wanted someone Presidential like Romney instead. Even the media saw it, but they can’t come out and admit because they’re rooting for the marxist.
In addition, last night Obama’s body language and his personna, as you indicate, was just completely negative.
One of the most obvious times of that was when Obama’s only respon se to a very serious policy proposal by Romney on the US Navy was to resort to a:
Contemptuious and Factually inaccurate Attack on Romney’s US Navy Plan

It was devastating to Obama in my opinion.
Oh, I am sure his base loved the witty little sophmoric comment...but the people to play to were the independents and Romney was doing that to a tea.
Romney did not stoop to Obama’s level and continued on with a high level, principled debate on his part that left Obama looking like an angry, insulting, and interrupting individual who was desperate to do anything he could to negate the plans Romney was setting forth.
Pundits and intellects all think themselves above the general public. Policy debates and fact checks and pundits' clever remarks couldn't sway opinions, so it must be because voters rely on something else to clue them in.
Voters, esp older ones, heard all the arguments before. Not likely anything new pops out, so they tune out the message.
Obama looked like the kid in the exam room who is looking for someone to help him out. His expressions were hopeful of passing out zingers...it was more like a Romney roast but he didn’t score at all.
I saw an absolutely astonishing, mind-boggling, jaw-dropping liar last night.
I already knew that Bam-Bam wasn't terribly conversant with the truth, but last night was beyond the pale even for him. He's insane; completely out of touch with reality. Bam-Bam shouldn't be in the White House, he should be in the care of the Men in White Coats.
Obama has spent entirely too much time hanging out with comedians, and not enough time with his National Security team. I’m sure that belittling ‘laughs’ like “we don’t need bayonets and horses” is routine conversation among Obama’s homeys.
PS: Why don’t any of his ‘friends’ attend the debates? He always has to crash the Romney party after the debate, because he and Michelle are so alone.
I thought some of his zingers - particularly the Navy one, showed some of how he must behave with staff. He was sarcastic, rude, nasty, demeaning and arrogant. It was in contrast to his demonstrated supplicating, subservient, placating and denegrating behavior in international circles as head of a great state. Romney gave the impression he would be the opposite.
