The franchisor-franchisee relationship can be a heated one, especially when corporate asks the operators to spend more money for one of their initiatives.

At McDonald's (MCD), remodeling investments, marketing campaigns and discounting are touchy subjects right now.

Mark Kalinowski, lead restaurant analyst at Janney Capital Markets, spoke with a bunch of McDonald's franchisees to gauge how they felt about what's going on, reports Scott Hume and Burger Business.

I eat very well so I cannot eat there. Let’s just say things flow very freely if I do and leave it at that.

I got food poisoning as a result of a grilled chicken sandwich I had there about 10 years ago. Was sick for 3 days. Took my grandson and one of his friends out for lunch last weekend. Friend asked grandson where we were going. Grandson replied, “Well, I can guarantee you it won’t be McDonald’s and when my Grams is driving her car only goes to Chick-A-Filet.”

Our local McDonald’s appears to be undergoing a total makeover. Probably Mochelle’s design. Sure didn’t seem to help business at the local Sonic when they tried to redo their exterior image. Reminds me of another example of trying to put lipstick on a pig.

better quality foos might help...all the fancy yuppie chairs and nice, tiled floors don’t make then sordid french fried any batter. mcd’s used to have the best french fries, now i havd to hand that title to dairy queen, with wendys in second

OMG if I had a Sonic near me I’d go there all the time and I’m a total food snob. Chick-Fil-A too.

Nothing like being able to admire faux art nouveau decor while 8 or 9 of Holder’s people beat the stuffing out of you.

I take my kids and my nephews to a park. I bring a cooler with burgers and hotdogs and grill them up. I haven’t been to any of those places in at least 5 years. Sadly, I used to love going there as a single man.

Yeah, their position as champion of french fries used to be undisputed. It all went downhill after a couple lame controversies over the oil they were using.

I still pick up an egg McMuffin on my way home from the gym after working out every morning. I’m addicted to those things and they are only 270 calories. Add a bowl of oatmeal and a half gallon of milk once I get home and I’m set.

Too much foo-foo food invading fast food. McDonald’s should be about burgers, fries and shakes, delivered fast. If someone wants upscale, they shouldn’t be in a fast food place.

I order from their value meal, same as with Burger Sling. $1.50 for a double cheeseburger.

McLa’Razas is a cockroaches paradise !

When I was a kid and burgers were 15 cents, parents used to let us eat there after grocery shopping .....

I’ve never been hungry enough to go back into one of these franchises .

Worked at one back in the paper hat days, before the 1/4 pounder.

They still cooked the fried in 100% beef lard. Yum.

The last time I got a malt at SONIC I thought something was wrong. It was cool, but not cold but still thick. It turned out to be a small amount of ice cream, and lots of whipped topping. It was awful!

All I eat these days.... Have two freezers full of this bonsmara beef, elk and all my quality waters below the Navijo Dam on the San Juan trout..... I’m gonna have to drag ole Jeff Head down to the Country Barn next time he is passing through. Big Texan has gone tourist on us locals . I prefer George Chapmans “Country Barn” ...

Bonsmara beef is awesome, Steaks. Fajitas or burgers it is good beef.

The McCafe move is the dumbest one I’ve ever see. I’m sure in some markets it makes sense but not remotely in most of the markets McD’s has forced it on

Still waiting for a white person to be in a McDonalds ad.

Not holding my breath, though.

The problem with our Sonic is that you absolutely cannot understand what the person taking your order is saying and the last two times we have been there our order had to go back. Within a two block radius we have Sonic, KFC, Chick-Fil-A, Carl’s, DQ, Jack-in-the Box, a couple of oriental drive-thrus, Popeye’s, WhatABurger, Smashburger, Shakes & Burgers, Cain’s, and three or four others as well as tons of restaurants. Doesn’t say a whole lot about our city developers!
