Last night, Barack Obama had his best debate. But even in his best debate, he looked small and petty, particularly in one crucial exchange with Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney. Romney criticized Obamas plans to drastically cut military spending, and focused more specifically on Obamas cuts to the Navy: our Navy is smaller now than at any time since 1917. The Navy said they needed 313 ships to carry out their mission. We're now at under 285. We're headed down to the low 200s if we go through a sequestration. Obama responded not by defending his record on military cuts he doesnt have a record that shows strength on military spending. Instead, he went small. Actually, small doesnt cut it. He went minute:
Governor, we also have fewer horses and bayonets, because the nature of our military's changed. We have these things called aircraft carriers, where planes land on them. We have these ships that go underwater, nuclear submarines. And so the question is not a game of Battleship, where we're counting slips. It's what are our capabilities.
Obama has reduced our military spending policy to a question of bayonets. And this is Obamas entire campaign in a nutshell. Deaths of our ambassador and three other Americans in Libya? Those are bumps in the road. Mitt Romneys desire to cut from government spending? He wants to cut Big Bird! And as for equal pay for equal work well, says Obama, all Mitt Romney knows about is binders full of women.
Bayonets. Big Bird. Binders. Bumps in the road. The killer Bs. And theyre a big O.

Is this guy really this stupid? EVERY rifleman has a bayonet. The last order you want to hear is”Fix bayonets”, as that means they are “inside the wire”.
Does he not realize that a war cannot be won from the air. Thank God for our air forces, they do a tremendous amount of damage, and provide close air support for the “Queen of battle”, the grunts on the ground. That is how you win wars, take ground and HOLD it, boots on the ground.
If you want large forces on the ground, you need transport ships, and destroyers to protect them. Carriers need protection from from those sneaky submarines. Remember, the other side likely has some of those as well as surface ships. The pilots flying off those carriers need somewhere to land when out of ordnance and fuel.
I did not actually watch the debate last night because I cannot listen to Obama, but I read about his ignorant comment about bayonets. I was thinking about it and about how it was a reminder of how unqualified this man is to be the CIC of our amazing armed forces this morning as I had the pleasure of watching several US Marines present the colors with "bayonets fixed".
I live in Jacksonville, NC, which is the home of Camp Lejuene MCB and today (October 23) is a very significant day in our community. Today was the 29th anniversary of the 1983 Beirut bombing in which 243 marines and sailors were brutally murdered when a car carrying the equivalent of 1200 lbs of TNT slammed into their barracks. Every year since that terrible rainy Sunday morning, we have held a ceremony in remembrance of those brave men and women. It is held in the beautiful memorial that was erected in 1989 that is inscribed, not only with the names of those that died as a result of the bombing, but also with the words, "They Came In Peace".
I do not often get to attend the ceremony because it is always held on October 23, no matter what day of the week it happens to fall. I am a community college instructor and often have classes during that time. Today, I took off a couple of office hours to attend and kept thinking all through the ceremony that we all must do everything we can to keep Obama from having the chance to do further damage to our military and our reputation around the world.
It is said that when we did not respond militarily to this event or to the other acts of terror which followed it, Osama began to view the United States as weak and that gave him the boldness to attack us on 9-11. I will always be grateful to GWB for recognizing that such acts of terror need to be met with force. Obama's abject failure in dealing with this threat resulted in the attack on the Lybian embassy. He cannot be allowed to continue this disastrous foreign policy!
I was watching and hoping Romney would know enough to convince the “undecided” that he could handle Foreign policy. He looked and sounded a lot more Presidential than Obamugabe.
