Officials at the White House and State Department were alerted two hours after attackers stormed the U.S. diplomatic mission in Benghazi, Libya, on September 11 that an Islamic militant group had claimed credit for the assault, emails show.

The emails, obtained by Reuters from government sources not connected with U.S. spy agencies or the State Department and who requested anonymity, specifically mention that the Libyan group called Ansar al-Sharia had asserted responsibility for the attacks.

The brief missives also show how U.S. diplomats described the attack, even as it was still under way, to Washington.

I can’t get to Hillbuzz right now, but some time ago they speculated that something like a Carter hostage situation would happen, only Obama would be able to rescue the hostages. Something about the Won being in cahoots with the MB.

It would be an attempt to distance himself from failed Carter, and paint him to be the hero he believes to be in his mind.

I don’t remember where they got their info, though, but it was from folks in the Won’s Chicago.

DAS Charlene Lamb saw and heard it live. If she had access then so did the WH Situation Room, Pentagon, State Dept, CIA and 12 DoD situation rooms around the world. The Critical Incident Report that was sent from the consulate automatically triggered the feed to all of those places.

If 0bama, Hillary and Panetta didn't watch and listen to it then it was because they chose not to. 0bama and Panetta were in the WH at the time as they had a scheduled meeting at 5:00 PM EST.

Yes, Petraeus knew all about it. The CIA is one of the many places that would receive the alert from the Critical Incident Report. That's not the e-mail thing that's the feed from the consulate. Security cam video, telephone, sat phone, radio, internet, drones ... whatever was being transmitted you can bet was available to the WH Situation Room, State Dept, Pentagon, CIA and every CentCom around the world. That alarm was triggered in the first 20 - 30 minutes of the attack. 0bama deserted his post and did nothing!
