After Brookfield spa shooting, lawmakers take up gun control legislation

In the wake of Sunday's deadly shooting at a Brookfield spa, Wisconsin lawmakers say they will push legislation aimed at keeping guns out of the hands of batterers in domestic abuse cases.

State Rep. Jon Richards (D-Milwaukee) said Tuesday that he would work with advocates to draft a bill that would bar firearm sales to people under restraining orders, let police remove guns from the scene of a domestic violence incident, and allow courts and prosecutors to know if a batterer has a permit to carry a concealed weapon.

Sen. Lena Taylor (D-Milwaukee) and Rep. Penny Bernard Schaber (D-Appleton) said they would reintroduce a bill that failed in the 2009-'10 legislative session that would force abusers, who must surrender their guns as part of any restraining order, to prove they've complied.

"I hope and expect that this will be a bipartisan issue," Richards said.

Radcliffe Haughton stormed the Azana Salon & Spa on Sunday, fatally shooting his estranged wife, Zina, and her co-workers Cary Robuck of Racine and Maelyn Lind of Merton, three days after receiving a restraining order that barred him from possessing a firearm.

"...a bill that would bar firearm sales to people under restraining orders."

so the Lautenburg Amendment doesn't work in Wisconsin either?

They just don't get it. Recidivist maggots like this guy WILL NOT OBEY RESTRAINING ORDERS, or gun control laws. He was ordered to turn his guns in. He did not. Their idiot FBI background check didn't catch him. He took a gun into a so-called "gun-free zone", which means the law-abiding can't carry. This guy did. He killed people. The police weren't there. They got there after it was all over.

People like him aren't going to obey more laws!

What we need are more armed citizens who are ready to stop violence with controlled and civil violence.

One can't have too many laws on the books.

Writing laws is their career field mind you.

I think they get more career points for tackling controversial laws, regardless whether or not the legislation already exosts.

Sure, the police can like magic pick up all of the abuser's weapons. How do they know how many he has? Any chance they might miss the Winchester Model 12 pump shotgun his grand-father bought 60 years ago and has never had any “paper” on it? If I want to hide a gun from either the police, or a wife, they would never find it.

Why, oh why, is it so hard for people to get this through their thick skulls?

To answer my own question, it is because all these “arguments” for more laws is merely an emotional stalking horse to ultimately take away our rights!

Laws are passed to restrict the law-abiding. Laws are of no impact to the lawless, like this guy. Passing more laws to restrict the already law-abiding is, iteself, unconstitutional as it further curtails our God-given rights.

STOP. No more!

New Liberal Law:

If you’re married, you must have your wife sign a permission slip, MONTHLY, for you to keep your weapons.

We already have laws that prevent domestic abusers from having guns. Crazy people don’t always obey the law — big surprise. And this guy was able to buy a new gun after being ordered to turn in all his guns. So now we must ban guns altogether.

Give these people an inch and they’ll take a mile.

It’s not about guns. It’s about individuals whose VALUE SYSTEM lets them kill other people.
Liberal policies have destroyed traditional values and replaced them with liberal “values.”

Stupid.
So your soon-to-be-ex-wife accuses you of something (she doesn’t really need evidence, does she?) and suddenly your RKBA is gone?
That helps me understand (but not sympathize with...) those folks who want to give convicts their RKBA back right after they leave prison.

( draft a bill that would bar firearm sales to people under restraining orders, let police remove guns from the scene of a domestic violence incident, and allow courts and prosecutors to know if a batterer has a permit to carry a concealed weapon.)

These laws already exist in most States and have zero effect on stopping criminals from killing people. A person who abuses their spouse is a criminal. Criminals do not obey gun laws. It is very easy for a criminal to get an illegal gun from another criminal. Sorry, but this is an exercise in feel good politics and nothing else.

Obama is a Moslem. He formally recited the Shaheed in front of large Moslem gathering that included clerics and politicians. That in itself is a knowledgeable person’s statement of belief and allegiance. The kenyan certainly knows enough about Islam and Moslems that he knows what that recitation means to Moslems all over the world. No Moslem who knows that the kenyan made the recitation publicly thinks that the kenyan is not Moslem. Much of his administration is coming to be dominated by Moslems as would be appropriate and required for a Moslem head of a non Moslem sate. By the end of a second term his entire adminisration will be Moslem to the extent that he can find enough such personnel.

They just don't get it.

Actually they do get it. They want a USA where only the police and military are armed. This is just another cynical attempt to pass more restrictions on firearms ownership by ordinary citizens under the smoke screen of "domestic violence."

A much better way of dealing with this is to create a fund to buy domestic abuse victims guns and some ammo. It works wonders.

Gun control worked really well on the south shore of Lake Michigan, why not try it on the west shore. /
