Michelle Malkin criticizes Ann Coulter for calling Obama 'the retard'

Ann Coulter is under fire from a fellow conservative on Tuesday after calling President Obama a "retard."

On Monday night during the final presidential debate, Coulter used the long-considered derogatory term for mentally handicapped individuals. She tweeted that she thought Mitt Romney was handling the debate well, apparently by not engaging Obama too aggressively.

"What a stupid, shallow thing to say, Ann," fellow conservative pundit Michelle Malkin tweeted in response early on Tuesday.

"She sure doesn’t speak for us," the staff of Malkin's social media site Twitchy wrote in an article headlined "Groan: Ann Coulter calls President Obama a 'retard.' "

The site also noted that it may be the first time Malkin has agreed with some of the pro-Obama celebrities also criticizing Coulter's comment on Twitter, such as CBS's "Partners" actress Sophia Bush, NBC's "Up all night" star Christina Applegate, singer Michelle Branch and actress/deaf advocate Marlee Matlin.

Malkin and Bush were already engaged in a heated Twitter debate over their policy differences, but Malkin noted that she agreed with Bush that Coulter went too far in her tweet.

"I would expect to see some of these posts on DU but not here. Very disappointing."

As a man whose brother has severe mental retardation, I also believe that many on this board seem to prefer juvenile epithets such as this to more effective (and classy) critiques of figures who are our political adversaries.

DU mentality and maturity, indeed...

Years ago, I was standing in a bread line (here in the Land of the Free, not in the Soviet paradise) with my daughter 3 or 4 years old. She was very quiet that day, and the man standing behind me axed me if she was special. Special? Yes, of course, I answered, she’s special. He kept babbling and after a while I understood that he meant to ask if the child was a cretin.

The idiocy is not Ann Coulter who uses the word ‘retard’ in colloquial sense, and not clinical, the idiocy is those who resort to retarded euphemisms such as “special”.

Forget p.c.: the terms are 'moron' (IQ 50 - 70), 'imbecile' (IQ 30 - 50), and 'idiot' (IQ below 30).

So, let's be generous to Zero and call him a moron, placed into office by votes from imbeciles and idiots.

Unfortunately many never have and never will know the true hardship and life long obstacles and road blocks that not only affect the specific individual but also their entire family. There is nothing worse as a father than being told your son who is 5 minutes old that he has Trsisomy 21 and instantly all of your life long dreams for him have been shattered and are gone forever.

Liberal pundit and columnist Maureen Dowd referred to “extra chromosome conservatives” in an interview with Bill Maher’s on HBO. The National Down Syndrome Society issued a statement saying use of the term “extra chromosome” as a negative descriptor “is insensitive and demeaning to the more than 350,000 people in the United States who have Down syndrome, which occurs when there is an extra copy of the 21st chromosome. Regardless of who originally coined the term... Ms. Dowd has perpetuated it as a slur against hundreds of thousands of Americans who are contributing members of society and who deserve the same respect that we all expect.”[3]
Obama White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel is reported to commonly denigrate persons he disagrees with as “retarded;” he was pointedly criticized for this by Sarah Palin.[4]
Former Vice President, Nobel Prize winner, and senior Democratic Party elder statesman Al Gore mocked children with Down syndrome by referring to his political critics as having “an extra chromosome.”[5]
On March 3 2009, President Obama ridiculed children with disabilities on Jay Leno’s program when answering a question about his bowling prowess. Obama said “It was like Special Olympics.” [6][7] [8]
Obama on Jay Leno’s Tonight Show,
March 3, 2009.The CEO of the Special Olympics defended the program noting the President had “set us back decades with his comments.”[9] Gov. Sarah Palin, whose youngest son Trig was born with Down syndrome, reacted, “This was a degrading remark about our world’s most precious and unique people, coming from the most powerful position in the world.” In her resignation speech as Governor of Alaska, Palin stated: “[T]his decision comes after much consideration, and polling the most important people in my life - my children, where the count was unanimous. In response to asking: ‘Want me to make a positive difference and fight for ALL our children’s future from OUTSIDE the Governor’s office?’ It was four “yes’s” and one “hell yeah!” ... much of it had to do with the kids seeing their baby brother Trig mocked by some pretty mean-spirited adults ...”[10] In responses to Obama’s comments, Kevin McConiughey, an actual Special Olympics bowling champion with an average game score of 266, reportedly challenged the President to a match at the White House bowling alley. The President apparently declined, as there were no reports indicating he accepted. [11]
The extreme liberal website Wonkette carried a series is grotesquely disparaging remarks directed at Trig Palin on his 3rd birthday. Wonkette only relented and removed the content after Papa Johns, Huggies, the Vanguard Group, Holland America Cruises, Nordstrom, Bob Evans Farms, Reliant Energy, DealSwarm and Coldwell Banker joined in a boycott and pulled thier advertising from the site.[12]
News24 of South Africa has on its website an obituary for Ronald Reagan entitled, Gay about Reagan’s death. [13] and quotes Jon Beaupre, a gay journalist and Los Angeles radio talk show host as saying, “I have a feeling that an awful lot of gay people are going to be cheering, that ‘Ding-dong! The wicked witch is dead’.”
Actor George Clooney is unapologetic about tasteless ridicule of an Alzheimer’s sufferer:
KURTZ: O’Reilly also criticized you for making a joke about Charlton Heston, the former NRA chief, having Alzheimer’s.
CLOONEY: Yes.
KURTZ: Was that in poor taste in retrospect?
CLOONEY: Yes, oh, yes. It was in poor taste. It was a funny joke. It was in a room of 100 people. Yeah, (UNINTELLIGIBLE). I have a lot of good friends who — in fact, I have a very good friend who is dying of Alzheimer’s. And it was just a funny joke. [14]

George SorosMulti-billionaire Democratic Party donor George Soros, on CNN, groundlessly compared President George W. Bush, who may suffer from dyslexia,[15] to Nazis.[16]

Democratic Senator Al Franken of Minnesota peddled a book entitled Rush Limbaugh is a Big, Fat, Stupid Idiot, viciously ridiculing a person struggling with obesity and deafness.

In 2007, White House Press Secretary Tony Snow announced his cancer had returned. Commentators on the left-wing Daily Kos website remarked, “the world would be better off without him”.[17]
Liberal talk radio host Mike Malloy lashed out at conservative commentator Glenn Beck, a recovering alcoholic, told his radio audience “I have good news to report. Glenn Beck appears closer to suicide. I’m hoping that he does it on camera....given his alcoholism and his tendencies towards self-destruction, I am only hoping that when Glenn Beck does put a gun to his head and pulls the trigger, that it’s on television, because somebody will capture it on YouTube and it will be the most popular little piece of video for months.”[18]
Congressional Democrats wrote into the so-called “health care reform” bill of 2009, the outdated and offensive language, “A hospital or a nursing facility or intermediate-care facility for the mentally retarded . . .” (emphasis added).[19] Families of the learning-disabled, mental health experts, and advocates were outraged at the insensitivity of the proposed language in the new law (a rare example of liberals criticizing their own, albeit hypocritically).[20]

I would have just stated it as Liberalism is an infantile mental disorder and Obama is a practitioner.

Did he write a similar letter to Bill Maher, Maureen Dowd, George Clooney, and President Obama? All have ridiculed conservatives as “retarded.”
