Scarborough: Obama's Ohio Lead A 'Mountain'—But Todd Says Dems Admit Race 'A Lot Tighter'
NewsBusters ^ | Mark Finkelstein

Q. When is the Obama lead in Ohio a "mountain not a molehill" for Romney to overcome, and when is the race actually much tighter? A. When you first ask Joe Scarborough and then Chuck Todd.

On today's Morning Joe, Scarborough, focusing on a Time poll showing Obama with a five-percentage point lead in the Buckeye State, saw an electoral Everest for Romney to climb. Appearing later, NBC political director Todd reported that the Democrats themselves have acknowledged to him that the race has gotten "a lot tighter" in the last week.

I’m going with Todd’s take: he’s got the inside scoop. Ping to Today show list.

Todd has his journalistic credentials to worry about, while Joe has to think about his half dozen viewers.

Scarbrrruhhgh, is a clueless comic. Chuck on the other hand is tuned to the currents on the ground.

Whether ZERO is up a couple or the game is tied, the BIG MO is on Romney’s side now. The ‘break’ will be going to the challenger at the end! ZERO is toast!

Hopefully, Romney wins while Ohio’s brain-dead Black and union voters give that state to Obama. As a result, Ohio will lose its pivotal role in future elections. It’s a terrible thing to have the future of the country held hostage by corrupt voters in a few Ohio counties.

I agree. So tired of OH right now. :)

And yea Scarborough is a joke and who cares what he thinks. I mean he’s as clueless as it gets.

There is nothing mystically powerful about Ohio.

On another thread, a freeper noted that the Ohio vote percentages track very closely with the national vote percentage. So rather than saying "No republican has won without winning Ohio", it is more accurate to say "a Republican who wins nationally almost always also wins Ohio".

Go with the 1932 model ~ there the incumbent had won just 4 years earlier in one of history's greatest blow out landslides.

The economy tanked ~ and got worse ~

BTW, that landslide had come on the heels of an historic first ~ a Roman Catholic candidate had run for the Presidency! He'd have been the first Catholic president.

In 1932 there was also a hint of "we gots the first one" when the challenger campaigned from a wheelchair ~ albeit one kept well hidden from what was assumed to be a public highly critical of those who differed in the slightest from the norm ~ again, that Catholic candidate had not only fared poorly, it was a blowout! So, no one wanted to disturb the goober vote.

Well, well, well ~ it was the economy.

But it wasn't until FDR spoke at his SECOND inaugural that he gave his "1/3 of a nation" speech. He was not a firebreather.

But, as we now know, the Democrats could have run a yellow dog in that fateful year and won.

We have a similar situation. Congress let Obamugabe try everything but concentration camps and none of that worked. The big deal is the proposal to back the government out of the equation. Still, it's pretty clear, and has been clear for the last 2 years, the Republicans could win with a plutocratic stuffed shirt type ~ or a guy with a stainless steel leg who rolls around on an electric wheelchair if need be ~ just anybody.

The specifics are not important in comparing 1932 to 2012, but the broad outlines are. Fur Shur FDR ran on issues that simply weren't necessary ~ the Republicans had lost the mandate of heaven and the public sympathy. Same this year. Romney is running on issues that aren't necessary ~ the Democrats lost the mandate of heaven and the public sympathy as early as 2010 when 30 million Democrat voters who'd swept Obama into office simply didn't show up to vote. That's one of history's greatest fall offs ~ 30 million Democrats ~ just disappeared!

They won't be back until things get better.

We could have won with Chris Lee!

ZERO is toast!

On behalf of toast and toast lovers everywhere, I'd like to point out that your insult has no basis in fact.

Toast starts out white, then gets brown when you want. Zero, not so much.

Toast tastes good to eat. Zero, not so much.

Toast is good with melted butter on it. Zero, not so much.

Toast with Miracle Whip, Bacon, Lettuce and Tomato is a good lunch. Zero, not so much.

If you have a piece of toast in your hand, you don't have Michelle standing behind it screeching.

Any diner in the country will serve you a piece of toast. Try that with Zero.

Those who are about to become toast demand that you retract the insult comparison.

Hey Schmoe, since when is a 5 point lead a mountain? Only when Obama has a mountainous 5+ lead? What about all the other states Romeny leads +5, and the Gallup poll? Is that not a mountain for Hussein to climb?

Scarborough and his show make me sick.

I want Romney to win Ohio and the country within the margin of Ohio's electoral votes so you will have to continue to bow down before us every four years. :-)

Joe makes 4 million. I think he’s just trying to stay on the horse, and he has to give his liberal viewers hope.

Joe has been mentioned as David Gregory’s replacement, since Meet the Press ratings have plummeted.

Scarborough has to keep up the facade that he’s a conservative, because that’s his MSNBC shtick, but he’s really a Dem shill.

I have recognized the error of my ways and very humbly offer my sincere and very deep heartfelt apologies to all the real 'toasts' and the avid, as well as non-avid, 'toast lovers' out there, for my very thoughtless and insensitive comparison of our "ZERO" President to such a wonderful and tasteful delight!
