Gov. Jerry Brown’s initiative that would raise taxes to help pay for schools and local public safety programs continues to lose ground among likely voters, slipping below the all-important majority approval mark for the first time in a new poll.

The survey by the nonpartisan Public Policy Institute of California released Wednesday night found that support for Brown’s Proposition 30 stands at 48 percent, posing a challenge for the governor to win over a majority of voters with less than two weeks before they go to the polls Nov. 6. Forty-four percent are opposed.

Prop 13 was what, 30 years ago?

As recently as 2009, the voters shot down another tax increase Prop1A (actually an extension of a 'temporary' tax)

All California freepers need to get out and vote regardless how the state votes for national offices. In addition to voting down Prop 30, it is critically important that we keep the RATS from a 2/3 majority in the legislature. Also, it would be nice to pass Prop 32 to defund the unions but even if that does not happen, the OP shows that we have a chance of defeating Prop30.

I always wonder about why in NY the state retirees don't pay state income taxes....

when indeed the ones getting all the freebies start having to pay for them, this over spending will stop...
