It's been called "snowicane" and "worse than the perfect storm," and it could knock out power in the mid-Atlantic through Election Day.
Hurricane Sandy hasn't even made it past the Bahamas yet, but Sandy, or any natural disaster around Election Day, could wreak extreme havoc on the election, experts say.

Political scientists have long studied the effects of rain and inclement weather on voter turnout and, not surprisingly, have found many people would rather stay at home than brave the weather. But more extreme storms or natural disasters that affect an entire state or region could turn a mild inconvenience into a huge mess.
That's because there are few federal election procedure laws, Robert Pastor, co-director of the Center for Democracy and Election Management says. Election process is generally left up to state or local governments, who Pastor says are "least capable of handling a statewide or regional disaster."
Most states have contingency plans in case a state of emergency is declared on Election Day. In Virginia, which could be hit hard by Sandy, Governor Bob McDonnell can postpone the election for up to 14 days, leading to all sorts of logistical issues...

Hey team Obama ? The God of Israel is large and is in charge,, not you.
I don’t doubt that they could try it.
But don’t most states have early voting? I don’t really care for the practice, but if I thought there might be a significant weather event that could delay voting..I would vote early.
I find it hard to believe that a storm in the Bahamas now would still be around in almost 2 weeks. They are digging up all sorts of possible scenarios that they could win. I saw some more of the “Ohio could hold up election results for weeks” headlines today.
I sincerely hope it’s not so close that any of this nonsense comes into play.
If the storm causes power outages from Norfolk, to Buffalo, to Boston, there won’t be enough crews to get the power back on in a week. Imagine the looting if power in New York were out for three days ...
Are utility workers in the NE unionized?
They have it making landfall in 5 days.
Isn’t the storm suppose to be passing NY and through Maine this Monday, Tuesday or Wed.? How does this effect the election? We don’t even vote early in NY!
And if the power goes out in Philly, New York, or Boston, looting occurs, then the National Guard gets called out. So then the election goes on with Guard troops in the streets. I can see Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson on the TV now crying voter suppression ...
They are full of crap. This storm will chase off to sea after Hatteras. Everybody wants to be a star. That little thing called a trough has all the power. One thing to watch for is cold temps next week.
See post number 5 & 9 ... I’m just sayin ...
I’m sure McDonnell will not allow this nonsense to happen.
Honestly....I can’t stand when the media pulls stunts like this to inject confusion into the process — it’s a lib thug tactic.
That being said, I have heard before (and this Weather survey) seems to show that Republicans are more likely to vote in bad weather.
Ann Coulter once said Democrats “wait for FEMA to rescue them” :D
Storms do not stop American voters.
She wasn’t wrong. I have the original warning for N.O. the night before. It told them to leave. Being the idiot ass the populace was, they stayed. Then they had the gall to blame whitey.
I despise things that leech me.
I’m not worried, I’ll kick in my Blazer into 4WD if necessary. Worse comes to worse, I can walk to the polls by cutting through the woods. My poll is at the elementary school I went to and as a kid, we used to cut through the woods to go back and forth if we missed the bus.
Bad weather, the Republicans will still go out and vote
They discount the Man Upstairs and slap Him around without a care in the world.
I can't decide if I want a front row seat or not.
There isn’t a storm that’ll stop an American patriot from winning the presidency. Conservatives will find any means possible to make it to the polls.
But dont most states have early voting?
Some program on FNC Thursday indicated that 30 States have early voting.
Off topic....... Why are the Dems pushing so hard for their people to vote early? What’s the advantage? Is it easier to do fraud if voting early, because there is not as much scrutiny as on election day?
