The Morning Plum: Romney’s false scare story in Ohio [Wash Post "journalist" attacks Mitt]
Washington Post ^ | October 26, 2012 | Greg Sargent

This created a stir last night on Twitter that has subsided. But it wouldn’t be surprising if the Obama campaign seizes on it in coming days to close out its argument in Ohio. From the Detroit News:

Republican presidential hopeful Mitt Romney told a rally in northern Ohio on Thursday night that Chrysler was considering moving production of its Jeep vehicles to China, apparently reacting to incorrect reports circulating online.

“I saw a story today that one of the great manufacturers in this state, Jeep —now owned by the Italians —is thinking of moving all production to China,” Romney said at a rally in Defiance, Ohio, home to a General Motors powertrain plant. “I will fight for every good job in America. I’m going to fight to make sure trade is fair, and if it’s fair America will win.”

The report apparently was wrong...so fake journalist Greg Sargent says....

"... this story should be a big deal. Romney may very well be the next president. That’s a position of some responsibility. Yet he and his campaign rushed to tell voters a story designed to stoke their fears for their livelihoods without bothering to vet it for basic accuracy. This is not a small thing. It reveals the depth of Romney’s blithe lack of concern for the truth —and the subservience of it to his own political ambitions."

No word if fake journalist Greg Sargent has used the same rhetoric against Barack Obama for LYING about Libya.

Only girls "tweet" on twitter.

Both words are so friggin' feminine

So how did a girl's gossip engine become such a rubbish and trash strewn highway into nowhere ?

Obviously, I don't tweet .... don't face on book, nor digg or whatever.

Oh but Obama didn’t lie. His story is simply “evolving”

Mike Manley is quoted in the Washington Examiner, Bloomberg News, Autoguide, Wrangler news and many more outlets that Chrysler wants to do this. Someone got a call from the White House.

“Romney told Ohioans that a major manufacturer is on the verge of moving all its jobs to China — but it isn’t true. Chrysler is looking to build Jeeps in China for the Chinese market, not to move American jobs there.”

Romney may very well be correct. If Chrysler is moving a Jeep Plant to China then they very well may move all their plants to China eventually.

There’s a dedicated FR thread on this already. Fiat/Chrysler is talking about localizing Jeep production for the Chinese market. NOT transferring US production to China. That’s spelled out with crystal clarity in the original Bloomberg article, which is cited (by me) on that other thread.

Romney got burned here, and made an unforced error harkening back to his campaigns “ready, shoot, aim” behavior prior to the first debate. His campaign needs to do a much better job of vetting things like this before they come out of their candidate’s mouth. Especially now.

So, basically, Romney believed something he read in the MSM and now the MSM is saying he’s a fool for taking them at their word.

Those turds are looking for the next “macaca moment”.

Unfortunately, they can’t trade on their credibility any more to gin one up, because they have none left.

Romney didn’t state this as a matter of fact. Only that he heard they were thinking of doing this. How do we know what obama is up to if he gets re-elected. I wouldn’t put anything past the scum. He was merely giving people a heads up as to what might happen - and probably will in the future.

LOL. I thought the very same thing. If anything it’s an indictment AGAINST the press.

Is that right?

From the Washington Examiner dated yesterday, Oct 25

http://washingtonexaminer.com/jeep-an-obama-favorite-looks-to-shift-production-to-china/article/2511703#.UIl4z0bCz8B

"In a Bloomberg interview, Jeep's president said the automaker plans to restore Jeep production in China, suspended in 2009, and is considering making all Jeeps in China. Fiat SpA, majority owner of Chrysler Group LLC, plans to return Jeep output to China and MAY EVENTUALLY MAKE ALL OF ITS MODELS IN THAT COUNTRY, according to the head of both automakers' operations in the region, reported the business wire service.

Mike Manley, chief operating officer of Fiat and Chrysler in Asia and president of the Jeep brand, told Bloomberg, "We're reviewing the opportunities within existing capacity" as well as "should we be localizing THE ENTIRE JEEP PORTFOLIO or some of the Jeep portfolio" to China.

Don't know about "Your" source, but this article seems pretty clear and one which one could assume as did Mitt, that there is speculation of (possibly) moving the ENTIRE Jeep production to China.

My bet is that someone from the Regime is playing dirty politics...yes, as hard as that is to believe.

How did Twitter become a trash strewn highway into nowhere? Well, the MSM already was one, and along came this site which made it easy to kick out little announcements that people could pretend is news, which is fun when you have nothing to talk about. It’s the old “pseudo-event” phenomenon, to the millionth degree.

I’m not sure what harm, if any, articles of this nature would cause for Romney. WE all knew the left is only trying to use these as a weapon against Romney. And its not going to work on us.

We know who we’re going to vote for.

We know who they’re going to vote for.

The only ones left are the “undecideds”. And, if anyone is REALLY undecided at this point in the process, they’re brain-dead.

I personally believe, the only ones that are undecided are victims of amnesia, dementia or oldtimers disease.

My source is the same as yours: the original Bloomberg story there the Chrysler guy talking about entire lines and portfolios also says he’s just talking about localizing production in China, not shutting down US production to transfer it there.

You and others are reading this story entirely wrong. Saying that all lines or the entire portfolio will be made. China is completely different than saying that production will be shifted there. It’s about setting up additional, local production for all the Jeep models.

Bloomberg is a business news outlet. They don’t write their stories in laymans English but in language tailored to business information consumers. I’d expect Romney to be such, and wouldn’t get burned like he did. It’s a minor error on his part, but given how the press is marching in goosestep with Obama and the Dems in trying to destroy him, one he can’t really afford to make right now.

Romney’s source was a Conservative outlet ( the Examiner) that miscited and misinterpreted a business outlet (Bloomberg). But hey, maybe I’m the weird one for knowing what “localization” really means and going an additional step in reading the original source material.
