hrysler has been eyeing the Chinese car market for a while now, and they plan to eventually move all Jeep production of cars destined to be sold in the area, to China. Group officials are now in talks with their Chinese partners, from the Gunangzhou Automobile Group Co. to restart Jeep production in the country, after it had been stopped in 2009, after Fiats takeover of Chrysler.
According to Mike Manley, COO of Fiat and Chrysler in Asia, said that they have already gone through very detailed conversations with Guangzhou Automobile officials, and that "the volume opportunity for us is very significant [. . .] We're reviewing the opportunities within existing capacity (and) localizing the entire Jeep portfolio or some of the Jeep portfolio."

I bet if we hired thousands of new math teachers, and taxed the rich a bit more, we’d have these jobs coming back to America...in a flash... (sarc)

The All-American Jeep.
Owned by Italy.
Made in China.
So that’s what it’s come to.

I know and that's why I posted this. Fiat is NOT going to build or use a whole plant in China just to build a few hundred cars for locals but instead will open the plant and absorb all Jeep Production for exports. It's how they roll.

Exactly right. I have come to believe that the ChiComs long-term plan (and they think this way) is to control industrial production for the US and Europe. Having that gives them control of the world economy.

Chicoms has plenty of Audi and BMW technology to steal anything from Jeep. I think it is good for Jeep to build in China as it is mostly aimed to feed Chinese domestic demand. China is about to become a world largest car market surpassing US by large.
To: cunning_fish
Manufacturers say the same thing every time they send something to China, “it's for their domestic market” but then it ends up that 90% of it gets built there and a majority is exported to other markets. Jeep is NOT staying in America with its labor cost and massive taxation.

The All-American Jeep.
Owned by Italy.
Made in China.
So thats what its come to.
When Daimler owned them, it was German.
Back in the '80s, French Renault had controlling interest in "American" Motors, Jeep's owner.
Heck, they were also made in Red China from 1983-2009 according to Wikipedia.
It has been a long time since there has been anything distinctively American about Jeep, or almost any other auto/light truck.

The reality is Jeep builds inferior products. So does Chrysler and Dodge. Charisma, spirit is all has left from it but it really can’t compete on international market, especially if you are to include shipping cost. China is a huge market so it eats everything. It is good to make Chinese buy more Jeep charisma making it their domestic product. What export? Russia buys a few thousand annually from US, Europe buys a few hundred. Japan?? Please....
To: tobyhill
Guess I’ll add them to the list of cars I will never own then. Hope selling to commies keeps them afloat.
