With everyone taking turns under the bus, it’s a wonder that it still moves!

or...

A bus divided against itself cannot be driven!

It’s not “window dressing”. One of the Alynski rules is to make a trouble maker a part of your operation, give him a job and make him responsible for the outcome. That way he can’t cause trouble with making trouble for himself.

I see a lot of back and forth on what the CIA director did or did not do, what he's guilty of or not, etc.

Here's the bottom line. Those under attack in Libya sent multiple requests for help. Seals in Libya requested permission to help. SOMEBODY (probably POTUS) told them to stand down. Repeatedly. This sealed the fate of those under attack. Did anyone defy those orders? Not the VP, Sec of State, Sec of Defense, or CIA Director. None of them had the guts to put their careers on the line. On the other hand, the Seals in Libya DID defy those orders, because they simply could not stand by and do nothing. They risked much more than their careers. They risked their lives, ultimately in vain because no more help came to back them up. EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THESE OFFICIALS are pond scum, not worthy to lick the boots of those who gave their lives trying to defend other American lives in Libya.

The blood is on ALL of their hands and I pray it never washes off.

The FIRST RULE of CIA Club is you don't talk about CIA Club.

The CIA has a standing policy that it does not publicly confirm, nor publicly deny any kind of speculation. Petraeus's statement, made where ordinarily nothing would be forthcoming, is indeed throwing someone VERY HIGH in the military chain of command "under the bus."

Thanks Fred. Here is the quote I believe you were referencing.

Yet a congressional source told Fox News that CIA Director David Petraeus, during a briefing with members of the House Intelligence Committee three days after the attack, espoused the view that Benghazi was an out-of-control demonstration prompted by the YouTube video. According to the source, this was "shocking" to some members who were present and saw the same intelligence pointing toward a terrorist attack.

Am I the only guy that gets a bit touchy when we're trying to attribute comments to Patraeus based on an un-named Congressional Source, and the level of the charge is one that is targeted to destroy his credibility? Did anyone have a reason to destroy his credibility here? Well yes, some Democrats so instructed could have a very good reason if he was going to be involved in a he said/he said situation.

You'll have to forgive me if I am a bit skeptical here. And I'm not saying you're in the wrong. It just looks somewhat iffy to me. You may even agree.

Go back and check that article out. Look at all the sources. The whole article is one unnamed source after another.

U.S. intelligence officials knew...
sources told Fox News...
Intelligence sources said...
The sources said...
Further, an official said, "No one ... believed...
Yet a congressional source told Fox News...
According to the source...
...some members who were present...
In addition, sources confirm...

The claims that officials initially classified the attack as terrorism is sure to raise serious questions among lawmakers who from the beginning have challenged the narrative the administration put out in the week following the strike. A few Republican lawmakers have gone so far as to suggest the administration withheld key facts about the assault for political reasons.

One intelligence official clarified...
...though officials had an idea of the suspects.
...the official said.
...administration officials...

That makes more sense than some of the other conspiracy theories

Even Panneta admitted it saying they couldn't risk resources

The Seals were EX Seals, not active military.

Glen Doherty and Tyrone Woods were in Benghazi as part of a security contractor force.

They would not be subject to military orders to stand down.

Those two men are not who Jennifer Griffin was referring to in the three orders to stand down. She was referring to ACTIVE military units aware of the events and on the ready to intervene.

Yes, we're out in the woods at Miller's Crossing and nothing is at it seems. We don't know if the "sources" are good guys or bad guys. I agree with that. Petraeus could have denied that rumor, also, of course ... but typically no DCI would do that, even if it was a lie (and again, our "sources" would count on that fact.) This is what makes tonight's statement so remarkable. He's clearly reached a point where -- lied before or did not lie before but let it stand -- he's had enough.

I posted this on another thread, regarding Petraeus.

“I am holding out hope for Petraeus. My son served under him, and respected him.

Petraeus’s big mistake? Assuming that the den of vipers in D.C. had the best interests of US at heart, thinking that he could help.

I could be wrong, of course. I have been before.”

Perhaps the core principles of our best Generals blind them to the possibility that the “elected” ones may not have our nation’s interests at heart. It might be the farthest thing they could imagine, even though there is certainly politics and self-serving idiots in our Army (several come to mind, like Wesley).

This whole mess should be allowed to play out, but we shouldn’t be so stupid as to condemn everyone, until we get the full story.

And, we are entitled to that full story! So, get on the horn and demand it. We will not survive as a nation if we fail to demand total transparency, complete detail, from those who have been elected or appointed to SERVE US!

And, let’s demand that that they no longer let muslims into our country, and repatriate anyone refusing to convert from that autocracy called Islam.

According to my understanding, muslims cannot take an oath of allegiance to the United States of America without lying about their true allegiance to the false prophet, Allah, who intended to rule the world.

So, send anyone home who refuses to leave a belief system that places “Allah” above the Constitution of the USA, and that means leaving the Islamic autocracy, improperly called a “faith”, instead of a system of government.

It's a bit more compled than that. As contractors, they agree to obey their supervisors. To refuse to obey might mean they would lose the big chunk of their hefty salary, which is deferred until the end of completion of the contract. You no obey the CIA crapweasel, you maybe not get paid.

They didn't care. Duty, Honor, Country meant more, even after their active duty was over.

To my knowledge, this is the first word from General David PetraeusAccording to other posters on this thread who seem knowledgeable about the chain of command for that type of request the CIA is not in it. It goes up through DOD not the CIA. CIA can not commit troops so Petraeus though he was aware real time what was occurring it was not his decision

The questions now change to issues like whether or not a president, when he leaves office can grant a pardon to himself! There was, of course, the famous pardon granted to Nixon by Gerry Ford. But in a matter this grave, don’t look past the possibility of Obama issuing himself a pardon for what he did in Benghazigate.

Remember what happened in 1945 to the president of Norway when WWII ended.

That is very troubling and sure seems like he is covering for the president before congress which is wrong and stupid since he should have known the truth would come out .If he didn't realize it he should resign for being incompetent

However the subject here is denied military assistance which is not in his chain of command

I guess I should be crying, but I just can’t manage it. I’ll give it a shot and see what I can come up with over the next few weeks.

Until then I’ll just exhibit bad behavior, and think Obama deserves to be impeached, convicted, and sent packing, the evil person that I am.

‘I’ve been following politics & foreign affairs for decades and I’ve never seen anything like it.’

The reason for this is that for the first time in the history of the United States we have an American president whose first priority is not the United States.

Obama aided and abetted the Arab spring. His loyalties lie with the Muslims in the Middle East. Where he was born at this moment does not matter. What does matter is that the founders sought to protect this nation from making the mistake of electing a president whose loyalties laid elsewhere. The current population failed them in the last election.

Obama must be voted out, and then let the hearings begin. If he went to bed while this was going on, then he should be impeached between election day and the first of the year.
I have no doubt that the gutless wonders in Congress will look the other way.

So then the source is unidentified and we don't know if Petreus really blamed the video.

Here's an identified source: Al Qaeda Took Advantage of Libyan Protest, CIA Chief Says

"The attack that killed four Americans in the Libyan consulate began as a spontaneous protest against the film “The Innocence of Muslims,” but Islamic militants who may have links to Al Qaeda used the opportunity to launch an attack, CIA Director David Petreaus told the House Intelligence Committeetoday according to one lawmaker who attended a closed-door briefing.

Rep. Dutch Ruppersberger, the top Democrat on the House Intel committee, said Petraeus laid out “a chronological order exactly what we felt happened, how it happened, and where we’re going in the future.”

In the Benghazi area, in the beginning we feel that it was spontaneous – the protest- because it went on for two or three hours, which is very relevant because if it was something that was planned, then they could have come and attacked right away,” Ruppersberger, D-Md., said following the hour-long briefing by Petraeus. “At this point it looks as if there was a spontaneous situation that occurred and that as a result of that, the extreme groups that were probably connected to al Qaeda took advantage of that situation and then the attack started.”

Petraeus did not speak to reporters on his way in or out of the briefing. When he left the meeting, the former four-star general was trailed by about a dozen intelligence officials and a couple of Capitol police officers.

Members of the Senate Armed Services Committee were also briefed today by Defense Secretary Leon Panetta and Vice Chair of the Joint Chiefs Admiral James Winnefeld. But senators emerging from that private briefing reported that they believed the attack in Libya was premeditated."...............

So the House, briefed by Petraeus and other CIA types comes away thinking it was a spontaneous event that went on for two or three hours and THEN terrorists took advantage of later, but the Senate, briefed by Panetta and Vice Chair Joint Chiefs think the attack was premeditated?

huh.....
