California poll shows Obama with smaller lead
LA Times ^ | 10-27

Even in vividly blue California, President Obama's luster has faded since his historic victory here in 2008, a new poll has found.

Despite his sizable lead over Mitt Romney, the president is unlikely to repeat his historic 2008 margin of victory here because of his diminished power to pull in people who don't traditionally support Democrats, according to the USC Dornsife/Los Angeles Times poll.

The drop in appeal across party and demographic lines has translated, at this point, to a 14-point edge over the Republican nominee among likely voters — well below Obama's 24-point victory in 2008, the biggest margin in modern

The same trends that are making the presidential contest tight in the battleground states are evident in California, particularly the decline in support for Obama among white voters and men. In 2008, Obama won male voters by 18 percentage points over Republican nominee John McCain; he currently leads Romney by 1 point among likely male voters. Among white men, Obama beat McCain by two percentage points; Romney now leads among them by 17 points.

...we should have backed Tom McClintock. He was clearly the competant one of the bunch, but instead we wanted the moronic “rock star”

I and many others backed and voted for McClintock. He would have made a great governor.

But the GOPe, as they are prone to do, wanted one of their own (read: not conservative) in so they pushed the Kennedy into office and the rest is history.

Careful with the use of the word "we"...

Going back to the Gray Davis recall election, we should have backed Tom McClintock. He was clearly the competant one of the bunch, but instead we wanted the moronic “rock star”

I tend to agree. McClintock wasn't the most charismatic guy but he was known even back then as an economic fixer, and Bustamonte was such an unappealing candidate I doubt very much he would've beaten him.

That was the GOP's swan song here & Arnold really messed things up for us.

We are withering and dying politically, economically and morally.

Not everyone in Ca (Ka, if you prefer) is a flaming Hollywood type liberal, myself included. Thankfully, I live in a conservative pocket in So. Kal. But if I was living in another state, I probably would come to the same conclusion as you did.

“we should have backed Tom McClintock.”

Or, even better, there should have been no recall. Gray Davis and the rats should have been allowed to take the state down all by themselves. That way, the stupid voters would have had no choice but to assign responsibility to the right spot. Instead, we let Arnold be standing around while the assembly took the state down, which it was going to do one way or the other.

BTW, I said this at the time of the recall.

Romney needs to do what Reagan did and NATIONALIZE this election

Make it about rejecting the NEW Democrap party as the home of tax-and-spend socialists, and the Republican party as the party to cut government down to size.

Yeah, if we had elected Tom, we would have at least had a fighting chance to turn things around because the people were pissed off at Jerry the Fairy’s former chief of staff Gray (Pay to Play) Davis. Instead the fools here voted for a guy who has, in hindsight, gone through life with an open fly and a RAT agenda.

“You are full of it. The Republican brand was in deep trouble thanks to Pete Wilson and Prop 187.”

Horse Crap! Prop 187 was approved by the voters and has been sidelined by Marxist Judge Marianna Phaelzer. 187 would have made a big difference here had the court “allowed” the will of the people to stand. Today, no one even remembers who Pete Wilson was, but they do know that Arnold was a useless pud who spent more time with his housekeeper than he did at being our governor. Both of us got screwed in the process!

All true about Arnold. We voted him in, and he began doing what he said he’d do. They when he asked for more help via referendum, we cut his legs out from under him. After that, it was like “oh, you really want to keep the status quo after all? Fine, that’s what I’ll give you”. Then he got called RINO.
