Mr. Panetta was at the White House for a regular meeting on the afternoon of Sept. 11 as the first reports of the attack unfolded, an American official said. By that evening Mr. Panetta had consulted with General Dempsey and General Ham and had ordered a number of American military forces in the region to move closer to Libya.
Defense officials say they did not receive a request for military support from the State Department as the attack unfolded.
In response to Mr. Panetta’s decision, a small Special Operations “strike force” team moved from Central Europe to the Sigonella Air Base in Sicily while two Navy destroyers already in the Mediterranean were moved off the Libyan coast. A rapid-reaction team of elite Marines left Rota, Spain, and arrived to protect the American Embassy in Tripoli, the Libyan capital, the next day.
But a senior military official said that uncertainty about what was happening on the ground in Libya delayed the decision about where to send the Special Operations forces until about 9 p.m. in Washington, or 3 a.m. on Sept. 12, in Libya.
Ultimately, the decision relayed from the military’s Joint Staff in Washington was “to get close but not into Libya,” the official said. The task force then deployed over the next 24 hours to Sigonella, which is about an hour by plane from Benghazi. But by that time the shooting was over and the Americans were eventually evacuated.

My only point in my reply is that our government is now filled with ideologues, maniacs and functionaries dedicated to the success of the Messiah Fuhrer - Obama. Isn’t the February 17th brigade mentioned here the February 17th MARTYRS Brigade? And weren’t they the ‘security’ group hired to protect our ambassador? And were they the ones who opened the door and let these people in? The lack of proper security goes to decisions made way before that night. This is a despicable bunch and I do hope they can’t get away with this and that it continues to build and burst before the election.

Why was a special strike team in Central Europe rather than in the Mediterranean where they are convenient to the entire region?

What does the firing of the Commander of the carrier strike force in the Mediterranean have to do with this event?
I hope so too! But it will take an MSM representative that gets big airtime, and who is willing to stand up for right instead of sacrificing all measure of credibility to keep a Democrat in power. I do not have high hopes for that, mainly because I’ve only seen one Democrat in my lifetime that was willing to stand up, speak out, and go against Democratdom in the face of evil. That man was Zell Miller.

Well done. I have dug deep to find anything written about the 31 who were saved. Where were they taken? Who has debriefed them? Where are they now. Have you read anything?
and being afraid of killing “innocent” libyans is odd, considering the fact that we were bombing the shiznit out of the place not too long ago . . . back when we were “driving from behind”.
