Miramar fighter jets deployed in secret to Mideast
UT San Diego ^ | Oct. 26, 2012 | Gretel C. Kovach

Amid mounting concern over Iran’s nuclear program and violence elsewhere in the region, U.S. Central Command quietly dispatched a Marine fighter jet squadron from San Diego to an undisclosed country in the Middle East, U-T San Diego has learned.

The deployment follows threats by the U.S. and Israel of military strikes if needed to prevent Iran from developing a nuclear weapon.

At the same time, the conflict in Syria is threatening to drag Lebanon, Turkey and Jordan into war, Iraq is beset by renewed violence, and terrorist groups hoping to capitalize on political upheaval in the region covet Syria’s chemical weapons and Libyan arms.

Against this tense geopolitical backdrop, aviation spotters tracked a dozen jets from Marine Fighter Attack Squadron (VMFA) 314, an F/A-18 Hornet squadron based at Marine Corps Air Station Miramar, en route in late September through Europe.

The heavily armed jets — capable of firing 2,000-pound laser-guided bombs, cluster munitions, air-to-air missiles and a six-barrel 20 mm gun — are used for a variety of missions, including ground attack, escort, enemy air defense suppression, reconnaissance and close air support of ground forces.

U.S. Central Command and the Marine command in the region declined to say which country the squadron deployed to or to comment in detail on its mission, citing political and security sensitivities of the host nation and its neighbors.

...Panetta said we lost track of Syria’s chemical weapons.

Rethinking prior comments by Panetta seems a must after seeing his subsequent comments over the last few days.

I'm not convinced this guy could find his ass with both hands.

He could have 17 reports from 15 different sources on his desk telling the precise location of those chemical weapons, and still say he had no way of knowing where they were.

Does he know where his car keys are? I doubt it.

When it comes to troop movements and relocation of our resources, I wish the DNCp would stop developing and publishing intel for our enemies.

This is a national security matter.

Possible?? Probable??

Most likely. I have feared all along that he will try to take over the country as dictator. He will start a war if he can.

Way back when I first saw Mitt Romney on TV as a potential candidate for president the first time, the “inner voice” said loud and clear, “He will be president.” Then Mitt failed to get nominated, so I thought, “So much for that prediction.” I try not to ignore that voice, but when Mitt ran this time, I swore not to vote for him even though I had heard that voice. I finally have to admit that I should pay more attention to the inner voice. It’s not easy to swallow one’s pride(ask Jim Robb) and say, “Okay Lord, I’ll vote for him.”

Thanks for posting this thread. I haven’t seen anything on “...Great Britain refusing use of their bases...”, can you post a link to an article about that?

All of this stuff is just crazy, and very dangerous for us.
I can’t wait for Romney to be sworn in as POTUS.

I’m with you.I hated...HATED Romney and swore up and down I would never vote for him.

I did and still do detest Romney’s politics. I would not pick him and I didn’t.

With all my heart I am trusting that God has decided and I will follow— knowing that He will never lead me astray.

God has a plan and we only need to trust His plan.

He will never let us down. Trust God and not Romney.

I voted for McCain.

Voting for Romney is easier...by several orders of magnitude.

Can’t we just be honest?

The man is a hack and a liar.

We pay him.

How do we stop?

There should be a way.
