SNIPPET: "Indonesian anti-terror police, Densus 88 secure a terror suspect's house during a raid in Mojosongo, Solo in Central Java. Indonesian police have arrested 11 members of an Islamic group allegedly planning attacks on American diplomatic missions, a spokesman says."

SNIPPET: "The group had planned to hit the US embassy and a US consulate, as well as a building near the Australian embassy in the capital Jakarta that houses the office of American mining giant Freeport-McMoran, police said.

Police said they were from a new outfit called HASMI, the Sunni Movement for Indonesian Society, and explosives and a bomb-making manual were found when members were arrested in locations across the main island of Java.

"The group's objectives were to attack the US embassy in Jakarta and consulate-general in the eastern Javanese city of Surabaya," national police spokesman Suhardi Alius told reporters."

I don’t suppose we could trade one Indonesian for another? Or perhaps we could just automatically forward that 3 a.m. phone call to Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono. If we had President Yudhoyono or almost anyone with guts in the White House (or outsourcing Obama’s off duty phone services) on the most recent 9/11, our men would not have been murdered.

Embassy Jakarta and Consulate General Surabaya Streamline Visa Renewals

October 19, 2012

Jakarta – The U.S. Embassy is pleased to announce that a new interview waiver program will expedite visa re-issuance without a personal interview for qualified applicants. This program allows many Indonesians who have a previously issued U.S. visa to save both the time and expense of appearing in person for a visa interview. This initiative is part of President Obama’s January 19, 2012 announcement of U.S. government efforts to facilitate legitimate travel without compromising border security. Under the U.S.-Indonesia Comprehensive Partnership inaugurated by Presidents Obama and Yudhoyono in November 2010 our governments made increasing travel through student exchanges as well as people-to-people and business-to-business contacts a key priority.

U.S. Ambassador Scot Marciel said, “We are continuing to dramatically streamline our visa process to make it as efficient as possible for Indonesians to travel to the United States, whether for tourism, business or study. This program is one more example of our efforts to speed up the visa process and facilitate legitimate travel so that Indonesians and Americans can continue to build stronger ties.”

The interview waiver program permits most Indonesians who are renewing a full-validity U.S. visa in certain categories – Business/Tourism (B1 and/or B2), Students (F), Exchange Visitors (J), and Vocational Students (M) – to apply for a new visa without an in-person interview at the U.S, Embassy in Jakarta or U.S. Consulate General in Surabaya. In order to participate in this program applicants must have a visa which is still valid or has expired within the past 12 months and must have been at least 18 years old at the time their most recent visa was issued. The interview waiver program is only available to persons applying for a new visa of the same visa classification. More information on the visa application process is available at our website at jakarta.usembassy.gov/visas.html and information about the interview waiver program is available at

“Indonesia to observe bloody Bali bombing anniversary amid potential threats”
Xinhua | 2012-10-11 14:09:41
By Agencies

SNIPPET: “Security threats overshadowed commemoration ceremony of the 10th anniversary of Bali bombings slated on Friday following the police’s finding of possible terror attack scheme framed by Muslim extremists in the country’s most popular tourist destination island during the event.

In March this year, Indonesian police’s anti-terror squad of Special Detachment 88 (Densus 88) identified a clue that a terrorist group planning suicide mission had arrived in Bali.

The clue came up after members of Densus 88 killed five operatives of Indonesian Muslim radical organization of Jamaah Ansharut Tauhid (JAT) believed of planning bomb attacks in Bali and other areas in the country. One person assigned to carry out the suicide bombing still on the loose as he escaped from the squad’s raid at that time.

The JAT organization is led by the now-jailed Muslim defiant cleric Abu Bakar Bashir who was sentenced to nine years in prison since 2011 after being proved of funding terrorist training camp in Aceh.

Bashir and his militant organization intend to set up an Islamic state in Indonesia, the largest Muslim community as they represent 80 percent of 240 million population in the nation.

Marking a decade of the deadly Bali bombing this year, Indonesia planned to stage a big ceremony to be attended by Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono and Australian Prime Minister Julia Gillard.”
