The latest rumor making the rounds is that Barack Obama replaced General Carter Ham at Africom after the general made a move to help the US security officials at the Benghazi consulate and annex. Ham was replaced by Gen. David Rodriquez on October 18. Tiger Droppings reported:
The information I heard today was that General [Carter] Ham as head of Africom received the same e-mails the White House received requesting help/support as the attack was taking place. General Ham immediately had a rapid response unit ready and communicated to the Pentagon that he had a unit ready.
General Ham then received the order to stand down. His response was to screw it, he was going to help anyhow. Within 30 seconds to a minute after making the move to respond, his second in command apprehended General Ham and told him that he was now relieved of his command.
The story continues that now General Rodiguez would take General Hams place as the head of Africom.
Sure enough Obama nominated Gen. David Rodriguez to replace Gen. Carter Ham as commander of U.S. Africa Command. The Stars and Stripes reported:
President Barack Obama will nominate Army Gen. David Rodriguez to succeed Gen. Carter Ham as commander of U.S. Africa Command and Marine Lt. Gen. John Paxton to succeed Gen. Joseph Dunford as assistant commandant of the Marine Corps, Defense Secretary Leon Panetta announced Thursday.
Both appointments must be confirmed by the Senate.
Rodriguez is the commander of U.S. Army Forces Command and has served in a variety of key leadership roles on the battlefield, Panetta said.
Hes a proven leader who oversaw coalition and Afghan forces during the surge in Afghanistan, and was the key architect of the successful campaign plan that we are now implementing, Panetta said.
In announcing Hams successor, Panetta also praised the work Ham has done with Africa Command.
Gen. Ham has really brought AFRICOM into a very pivotal role in that challenging region, Panetta said. I and the nation are deeply grateful for his outstanding service.
Hat Tip Tom
More The Obama Administration also relieved the admiral in command of an aircraft carrier strike group in the Middle East, Rear Adm. Charles M. Gaouette. It is highly unusual for the Navy to replace a carrier strike group commander during its deployment. The Stars and Stripes reported:
The Navy said Saturday it is replacing the admiral in command of an aircraft carrier strike group in the Middle East, pending the outcome of an internal investigation into undisclosed allegations of inappropriate judgment.
Rear Adm. Charles M. Gaouette is being sent back to the USS John C. Stennis home port at Bremerton, Wash., in what the Navy called a temporary reassignment. The Navy said he is not formally relieved of his command of the Stennis strike group but will be replaced by Rear Adm. Troy M. Shoemaker, who will assume command until the investigation is completed.
It is highly unusual for the Navy to replace a carrier strike group commander during its deployment.
Ace of Spades says the move to replace Rear Adm. Charles Baouette is likely not related to Benghazi.
Diversionary tactics?
We have a coup brewing?
Court marshall him. On TV.
This has been reported on FR, but we need confirmation of this intel from a separate substantial source...because it cannot or has not been confirmed independently online or elsewhere.

Usafricom website still has Ham as the CO.

Surprising he didn’t try to blame GW Bush...that would be par for the course for the golfer in chief. It’s always somebody else’s fault, y’know. Meanwhile, this is beginning to take on aspects of it being his fault, his own fault, his VERY own fault, and NOBODY ELSE’S fault but 0bama, directly.

TRAITOR
He should be dancing from that rope.
Then we can get to your picture.
From the Africa Command web Site:
WASHINGTON, D.C., Oct 19, 2012 President Obama has nominated Army General David M. Rodriguez to succeed Army General Carter F. Ham as the commander of U.S. Africa Command, Defense Secretary Leon E. Panetta said, October 18, 2012.
U.S. Africa Command is the newest combatant command, and its headquarters is in Stuttgart, Germany. The command encompasses all of Africa and its adjacent waters except for Egypt.
GEN Ham is still Cdr AFRICOM, and presumably will remain so until the Senate has confirmed GEN Rodriquez, which will not happen until after the election. He hasn’t been relieved. GEN Ham has been at AFRICOM for less than two years, so this move is a little bit unusual. Ham may be leaving for completely unrelated reasons, or he could be getting sacked for reasons related to Benghazi. Valarie Jarret probably knows, but none of us do, and probably won’t for some time. Eventually the real reason will leak out - post election most likely
Please tell me this is real.
Rodriguez requires Senate confirmation before he can assume his post.
Apprehended???
As in placing under arrest??
FUBAR!!!
FUBAR!!!
We have a coup brewing?
No, what we have is a writer with an overactive imagination who has obviously been watching the series "Last Resort".....

Excellent drama series and I highly recommend it.........
General Ham then received the order to stand down. His response was to screw it, he was going to help anyhow. Within 30 seconds to a minute after making the move to respond, his second in command apprehended General Ham and told him that he was now relieved of his command.
Who did relieved him of command? Who ordered him to stand down?
Sounds like General Ham was the only one who did his freakin job!~
Knowing how the Army works, I have a lot of trouble believing this.
The House needs to talk to these officers.
Okay, you want confirmation. Confirmation you’ll get.

Sounds to me like the Stuff just hit the fan.
Anybody starts sh**canning folks at this level, and VERY bad things are going to happen.
Monday morning (between this crap and Petraeus/CIA going at least partially public on Friday) could be VERY interesting.
It does, doesn't it? Along with the Admiral who was very abruptly relieved.
Of course he has been officially labeled as unreliable.
Out of here for a few hours.
If turns out to be true, this general must be put under oath
to tell what he knows.
You’re aware of normal command rotations, right? They usually run anywhere from 18 months to two years. Somebody has an over active imagination here.
“Knowing how the Army works, I have a lot of trouble believing this.”
Color me confused, Timber Rattler. If you have some insight into this story, please provide the details.
Thanks, buddy.
I think it went - he receives orders to stand down ; his reply is, no it is my duty as commander to respond and save these people; then they (WH/Obama) say - you are relieved of command.
More likely?
This doesn't have as much to do with how the Army works as how Chicago does....
I grew up 90 miles from the joint, and I don't have any trouble believing this (or worse) at all.
General Ham should resign NOW, before the elections and walk right into the House Committe and tells what he knows under oath.
No one to my knowledge has said the he was relieved from office because of his involvement in the Benghazi issue.
If I am wrong...I stand corrected.
The slow drip, drip, drip of info coming out over this, all done deliberately by patriotic Americans I suspect, is going to have him curled up in the fetal position, crying for his Marxist mommy, before election day.
In my worst dreams I can't imagine a more inept and devious person assuming the role of President.
Is that what Queen of Spades has to say, too?
Sunday morning talk show spin doctors are receiving their Forward! progressive orders from the Marxist in chief now.
They will say the Kenyan did not order the Navy Seal heroes to be abandoned and die, they were not supposed to be there. What the Resident did was order the Al Qeda Folks who were channeling the weapons from the Libya US Embassy, to insurgents in Syria, those Folks were supposed to take Amb Stevens hostage, so he could be rescued by the Administration, when the folks that made the Mohammed video got arrested he could be swapped maybe.
Only problem is, patriotism got in the way of the Libya Fast and Furious plan.
The Navy Seals asked 3 times for cover and aid, targets painted with lasers for Spooky to take out from the sky, and three times Obama said stand down. Gen Ham refused so he got immediately sacked.
A few days later the Al Qeda Taliban in US military uniform entered Ft Bastion and killed two Marines incuding a wing commander at Ft Bastion, and destroyed 7 jump jet Harriers on the ground inside the airbase. How could the Taliban do this without treasonous support from inside the White House or inside traitors and treachery from the Pentagon?
Treason, traitors and treachery in the White House, Benghazi, and Fort Bastion. Those will be the questions tomorrow.
And, why is Obama gutting the fighting forces of battle commanders during an election season? That is a good question.
Thread on this:

There’s a story Gen Ham is out about a week after the 9/11/12 attack.
Ham was the don’t ask don’t tell / gays won’t have negative effect on military guy. Was on his way up the ladder until this.
Read his post was to continue until May 2013. Well, what happened? Why is he out?
There’s daylight between Ham’s story and Penetta. Penetta said Ham was consulted and part of the decision not to go because they weren’t ready. Bolton on Greta last night quoted Ham as telling Congressional investigators that nobody asked him to go.
Somehow I don’t think the cowardly treason of Benghazi will be portrayed by Harvey Weinstein or Kathryn Bigelow any day soon.
Ham said “nobody asked him to go”. If this statement is true,
Ham should be relieved of his command. It is Ham, that should
have been pleading to save our fellow Americans.
The former SEALs on the ground would give a situation assessment as part of their direct communication. CIA was in the loop. Situation Room at White House.
POTUS must give the okay to violate Libyan air space. He did not do so.
So there are three lies:
1. POTUS claiming to be out of the loop.
2. The situation on the ground unclear.
3. Troops not ready to go.
3.
Look, these guys have careers and pensions.
What did they tell us?
CIA said basically WhIte House had the call, not us. We weren’t asked to go.
Ham said he wasn’t asked to go.
Who does the asking??
POTUS.
They’ve told us all how it went down without directly burning their own careers.
Ham will likely be subpoenaed at some point and tell his version of events to Congress. There’s a closed to the public hearing coming up. ... Post election.
Yes, he has been replaced by Rodriguez...but where is the evidence of the 30 second relief of duty...and his refusal to "stand down."
We need hard evidence...or at least a source to hang our hats on.
The Fox show is very good.
Apparently the two former SEALs were CIA. They were there pursuing 20,000 manpads - shoulder operated missiles. Those I’m the hands of terrorists could should down all air travel.
It was yet another Fast & Furious “get the weapons to the bad guys on our side” (in Mexico it was a ‘friendly cartel’; here ‘friendly Muslim extremists’).
Obama took credit in the foreign policy debate for Libya. Regime change without US sending in tons of troops. Obama was trying to do the same thing in Syria.
