Early voting surge suggests Democratic push pays off in Iowa
CNN ^

(CNN) -- More than two million Americans have already cast ballots for president less than three weeks before Election Day with a substantial number coming in the battleground state of Iowa.

The state, which holds six key electoral votes, is on pace to exceed the 1.5 million votes cast early in 2008 -- a trend that is not lost on either political party.

While both parties are investing resources in early voting, Democrats' push to turn out voters -- and in particular young voters in Iowa -- could be paying off.

Early numbers, which are updated daily, show that almost 20% more registered Democrats than registered Republicans have voted so far.

Heard this tonight but the person that told me couldn’t give the source.

This early voting garbage makes me nervous.

In Iowa, I set 60k hurdle for total pre-election day ballots. I feel, based on historical data, GOP can catch up 60k on election day.— Adrian Gray (@adrian_gray) October 27, 2012

Iowa: Dems up 77k in requests, 57k in ballots.GOP wants 60k or less (D's always win early votes, R's win election day). Very close in IA.— Adrian Gray (@adrian_gray) October 27, 2012

Just an anecdote...but more and more polls being reported "if true"— Adrian Gray (@adrian_gray) October 28, 2012

If the GOP succeeds this election we win a few more years to straighten things out.

If the liberals win this they guarantee the extinction of the US as a world leader and free country, and the scum in the free media are the authors of their own demise.

They do this every election. The whole reason the Dems pushed this early voting scheme was because they need as many days as possible to get their lazy ass voters to the polls. They always run way ahead in early voting and always spin it as a big victory when it is meaningless.

Vote early, vote on election day, they still only count as one vote. You can’t escape fate either way!

How certain are we that all these Democrats are voting for Obama? It seems to me that many Democrats are as anxious to see Obama go as we are. The Dems just might have pushed their own party members to race to the polls to vote against Obama.

It could actually be true and still be bad news to the Dems.. Early voting works great if it is NEW VOTERS, and not your solid base which will vote as predicted..

Whoever brings out an unlikely voter, has the edge.. Early voters are warnings signals that enthusiasm is in your favor and very encouraging and likely to win in the end..

This McDonald guy runs the George Mason absentee vote project and when we started showing stunning gains in OH counties he had to rush up a "disclaimer" saying th numbers didn't mean what it was obvious they meant. He writes for HuffPo.

I don't get the 20% lead. If it's 20 over th GOP #, that would be a 36-30 lead. They can't mean 20 point lead cause it's only 15.

At any rate, note that as bet I can tell they ar talking about requests and not returned ballots--very important.

Exactly! Not every Dem wants Obama re-elected. Someone retweeted a post from someone who has always voted Dem and for the first time ever will be voting Republican

Early voting surge suggests Democratic push pays off in Iowa

Saying it DOES NOT make it so.

I sense they're trying to influence the 217 viewers who still watch CNN.
