One advantage Republicans will have in Iowa is their overall lead on Democrats in voter registration.

As of August, there were nearly 621,000 registered Republicans and about 602,000 Democrats. Both were outnumbered by the more than 666,000 voters not aligned with a political party.

Here's an anecdotal story for ya.

I go to meetings regularly in an office building here in Eastern Iowa. A good part of the 2nd floor is home to a Iowa Democratic Party office.

They have been running a phone bank up there for get out the vote. Over the last few months the parking lot was always fairly full. I noticed that the parking lot was getting less and less full over the last two weeks. All of a sudden, last Thursday, I noticed that the parking lot was full again. But then I noticed something peculiar. Out of state plates. There were license plates from North Carolina, Virginia, Minnesota, Michigan, Wisconsin, etc.

I don't know for a fact, but my guess is that they've “used up” all of the local talent and have been forced to draw in volunteers from other states to work the phones.

I just read that the Des Moines Register was going to announce endorsement of Mitt Romney. First time in 40 years for a Republican endorsement!

This early voting garbage makes me nervous.

Without it, how would you know how many votes you are going to need to produce on election day?

A messege to those who plan to vote 'third party' or 'Sit this one out':

“Surely, my fellow Americans understand that they have only ONE chance to remove a communist cabal from power peacefully. That chance is November 6, 2012… Who can afford to focus on anything else?

No true Patriot will be sitting out the election at home this time. No decent American will sit on the sidelines in some futile 3rd party fantasy or protest. There is simply too much at stake.

We currently have a known enemy of our nation residing in the people’s White House. The people didn’t have the good sense to stop it in 2008. The courts didn’t have the courage to stop it or rectify the disaster after the 2008 election. Congress hasn’t had the backbone to correct the fraud and hold all accountable, even after the 2010 cycle that swept so-called Tea Party candidates into political power. Not even state governments have the honor and courage to block a known fraud from appearing on the ballot again in 2012.

That means that righting the greatest wrong ever perpetrated in American politics is left to the American people alone. They will get ONE CHANCE to end this charade, peacefully, on November 6th. If they fail to end it peacefully, they will be left with only a Second Amendment solution. There is no other solution at that point.

When did communism become an American Dream for some? A long time ago… When the American people allowed it.

When did the communist dream become acceptable to the rest of America? Only YOU can answer this one, on November 6th, 2012.

No American can afford to sit this one out or play childish games with fantasy candidates. — Removing this criminal communist cabal from power is the ONLY relevant issue of the 2012 election. Only a traitor, a coward or a fool would tell you any different!”

Bush lost to Gore and beat Kerry by less than 1% in Iowa. The state will be close, but likely to go for Obama.

2004 Iowa absentee stats:

2004 Absentee party registration:
D: 193,766 (42.1%)
R: 141,196 (30.7%)
I: 125,097 (27.2%)

Des Moines Register has not endorsed a Republican since Nixon.

They endorsed Romney:

Endorsements dont matter.
But GOTV doesnt matter either if the other guy has majority support. Help GOTV for Republicans.

Your post #5 is very true.

Someone (a blogger, a talk radio host, I can’t remember who) said that this election is the least exit ramp if we want to save the United States.

That really doesn’t mean anything. In the beginning I was a registered Dem, but I always voted Republican. Made the DNC nuts :D

Early numbers, which are updated daily, show that almost 20% more registered Democrats than registered Republicans have voted so far.

I guess the real question would be, "Is there an indication that the Republicans, who haven't voted yet, won't vote on election day?"

Anything from CNN must be taken as pro-Obama news. I don't watch the CNN channel and should give up any written news either. What a shame as CNN was a true news source 30+ years ago. Now it is just another political outlet like MSNBC, etc.

Here’s a couple things to keep in mind regarding Iowa’s early voting. On day one of early voting, all 99 counties had the Dems hosting breakfasts and they all went in and voted together. That gave them the huge early lead. Since then, we have had one-day polling stations pop up at strange locations. NPR has a story on this. A Mexican grocery store hosted a one-day satellite polling location. There will be 53 satellite locations open on college campuses. The celebrities and musicians that promote Obama then get the students to vote at the one-day locations.

Even so, Repubs are gaining on Dems each day during early voting here in Iowa.

Not that I have noticed.

Do you recall if they did the same thing in 2008?

I don’t remember about 2008.

These satellite locations only require 100 petition signatures for each specific location. These voting booths are all used at political events, almost exclusively by Democrats. The Mexican grocery store booth was there when “Latinos For Obama” had a presentation. Bruce Springsteen played one day for Obama at ISU and then directed all the students into the satellite voting booth.
