Earthquake and Tsunami Warning Breaking

Fortunate that it’s not in a populated area. It seems a subduction zone quake and hopefully it won’t trigger a bigger one like the Boxing Day Earth Quake and Tsunami was preceded by another large quake.

Queen Charlotte Islands. Not a lot of people there, luckily. At first I was thinking it was Vancouver Island, which did have a tsunami at one time.

They have issued a tsunami warning since this isn’t a deep quake.

It’s not a subduction zone - it’s a strike-slip (transform) fault like the San Andreas, connecting the Cascadia subduction zone and the subduction in Alaska

Evaluation

A widespread destructive tsunami threat does not exist based on historical earthquake and tsunami data.

The West Coast and Alaska Tsunami Warning Center will issue information regarding any local tsunami threat to coasts near the earthquake epicenter.

This will be the only bulletin issued for this event unless additional information becomes available.

The West Coast/Alaska Tsunami Warning Center will issue products for Alaska...British Columbia...Washington...Oregon...California.

The Pacific Tsunami Warning center in Hawaii and the Alaska and West Coast Tsunami Warning Center are two different entities. There is in fact a tsunami warning for Alaska, Canada, and the West coast, but not one for Hawaii or anywhere else in the Pacific.

Sitka was one of the locations that is supposed to be impacted. There was a lot of screw ups with the Tsunami warning.

They aren’t conflicting forecasts. The two centers have different assigned forecast areas.

Seems there was a small tsunami recorded...
