The Alaska Tsunami Warning Center in Palmer issued a tsunami warning Saturday evening for Southeast Alaska and the British Columbia coast minutes after a strong earthquake struck the region.

TSUNAMI WARNING: The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center has issued a tsunami warning for the Pacific coastline of Alaska, western Canada and the northwest U.S. mainland, after a magnitude 7.7 earthquake struck the Queen Charlotte Islands area just off the coast of British Columbia on Saturday night. Tsunami waves could reach the northern coastline in Washington state as early as midnight Central Time.
Just read this a few minutes ago from FB. Now BOTH coasts being bombarded?? WTH is going on?
We shook a little, now we see if we have to pull on our boots.
We had our programming interrupted twice with the tsumnami warning. We’re well out of the way up here in Fairbanks, but I called my daughter in Anchorage. She’s going to call a friend in Sitka.

What do you mean “BOTH” coasts?
That’s what I was thinking also.
Came across the tv about 30 minutes ago...southeast should be paying close attention. The announcement was weird because on the screen it said all of Alaska....instead of coastal.
The earthquake was only about 175-180 miles from Ketchikan. They definitely felt it but any tsunami effects should have already occurred there (apparently nothing to speak of in that direction).
Any idea if it covers Ketchikan? I’ve got friends there.

I’m in Ketchikan and right now it’s indicating the outside of Prince of Wales Island.
I got the same message.
My friends are not stupid, so I expect they'll be ok, no one is shooting at them, and they can get to high ground quickly there.
