For more than 230 years we have called ourselves the United States of America, but we are fast becoming the Divided States of America.
In this incredibly tight election, there are a few things we know. Whatever the results are, they will show an incredibly polarized electorate. Nearly 95 percent of the partisan bases of each party will vote for their candidate. And because the election will be extremely close, the victor likely will have little mandate to govern and little cooperation from the opposite party in Congress.
In addition to the partisan divide that exists in this country, there also has developed an unfortunate divide at other levels. The election results will further highlight this problem.
The race divide is well documented and has increased. Blacks and Latinos will give near-universal support to President Obama, while a majority of white voters will go for Mitt Romney. Younger voters overwhelmingly support Obama; older voters back Romney. There will be a consistent divide between the sexes, with a majority of women supporting Obama and a majority of men siding with Romney. The income divide continues to grow, as lower-income voters support the president and wealthier ones endorse Romney.
There also is a spiritual divide in this country. Folks who have a strict interpretation of religion and faith will go for Romney, and voters who dont attend church regularly or have a more progressive view of spirituality will choose Obama. Further, there is a marriage divide, especially among women, in which single women will vote for the president and many married women will vote for Romney. And then theres the geographic and community divide. The large urban centers will vote overwhelmingly for Obama, and small towns and rural communities will be just as enthusiastic for Romney.

Once we rid ourselves of the Libtards things will be real peaceful. They can all move to Canada.
Nope,sorry...no sale.I don’t compromise with Maoists.Not ever!
The MSM is already setting us up for “Mitt Romney won, but it wasn’t a mandate”.
The left celebrates diversity, yet when the nation becomes diversified to the point of breaking, suddenly they go into Rodney King mode and wonder ‘why we can’t all get along’.
Now that, would be cool. Dream a little Dream.
Considering who authored this; what ever he wants politically; I am against
A succinct statement if I ever seen one. You will see more of this, cant we just get along crap, more and more as we near the election. wussies
Good thing, then, that we are a republic and we can unite around the constitution.
Sure, let’s start with the oft-repeated word: “fairness.”
1. Everyone pays income taxes. Everyone.
2. Everyone pays the same rate of taxes. Everyone.
3. Enforce laws against illegal aliens. Deport all the ones we find. Shutter businesses that use them. This will lead to self-deportation. NO services — go back to SCOTUS if need be.
4. Welfare requires expense audits. Every dime needs to be accounted for. No more $300 weaves, plasma TVs and Satellite.
5. Admit that freedom of religion does not mean freedom from religion.
That is the STARTING SPOT for “Peace” with liberals.
I agree! We need to have peace accord. Just as soon as we drive all of the socialist SOBs out of this nation, we can have peace.
They left our guys to die.
For that I want blood.
Rest of the article:
There also is a spiritual divide in this country. Folks who have a strict interpretation of religion and faith will go for Romney, and voters who dont attend church regularly or have a more progressive view of spirituality will choose Obama. Further, there is a marriage divide, especially among women, in which single women will vote for the president and many married women will vote for Romney. And then theres the geographic and community divide. The large urban centers will vote overwhelmingly for Obama, and small towns and rural communities will be just as enthusiastic for Romney. Most of the voters on the East and West coasts will vote for Obama, while the middle of the country by and large will go for Romney.
We are becoming more a nation of tribes in which we align ourselves with a certain side and are unwilling to unite for the benefit of the country as a whole. As many sociologists and historians have pointed out, democracy cant survive or function in tribal cultures. We are on a fast road to a broken democracy with an inability to reach consensus on the big issues.
There are many things to blame for this: A media culture that seems to reward and encourage bitter and rancorous communication, a political culture that puts party over country, an unwillingness for all sides to sacrifice for everyones benefit and a winner-take-all attitude at every level in which compromise and agreement are seen as signs of weakness as opposed to strength.
What can we do? How can we again become the United States of America, and bridge the great divides that seem to exist at all levels? It is the biggest problem that I believe is facing the country, because without solving it, we cant really solve any other problems. To start on a path towards a solution it is up to all of us individually, as well as the two parties and presidential candidates.
For us as individuals, we need to begin to bridge these divides in our own neighborhoods and communities. In our behaviors and communication, we need to open ourselves up to more diversity and understanding of others points of view. We need to be able to discuss issues without yelling. We need to treat each other with respect and dignity, not see each other as an opponent or enemy. And we need to begin to make choices in news that encourage respect and calm as opposed to raising the heat. We need to practice the golden mean in how we act and what we say and what we watch.
The first order of business on Election Night will be for the victor to begin to heal the divisions and build bridges on each of the divides. But it cant just be words. After Election Night, we need to have our own peace accord. In the past, we have brought fighting countries to Camp David to try and build a lasting peace. We need to have our own Camp David talks among ourselves to solve these incredible divides and polarization. These summits should include leaders from around the country in politics, faith, business and social entrepreneurs. This United States peace process should be out of the glare of cameras and media, so leaders cannot feel pressured to run back to their side and revert to partisan talking points.
Its probably even more important for the candidate who finishes second on Election Night to put party aside and reach out. His role in solving this divide is huge, as it is in any peace reached anywhere. It will take a tremendous amount of courage and strength for the election loser to bring their supporters along in this peace process. It will be so easy just to attack the winning party, but the power to return us to a more united country in many ways is held more by the one who concedes.
As we face all these divides, the ability to unite ourselves is by far the most critical issue we face. It is a power and a responsibility that each of us has. Otherwise, no matter what the election results are, there will be no winner.
Your typical parliamentary democracy sorts out the alignments after the election. Some of them seem to have everything put together before the election, but a coalition 'Government' may be possible anyway simply because of the action of the election laws that require forming a 'Government'.
The United States, besides being larger than most other nations, also has an iron-clad formation as single-member districts ~ each state is, in fact, a district for a senator.
That pattern is followed within each state down to city councils, county boards, and so on.
One of the consequences of this structure and its standards is that the coalitions must form BEFORE the elections, and then, because it takes 50%+1 vote to win, in most places most coalition parties will end up fairly evenly matched at 50/50.
Redistricting will stir the pot of course, but not enough to upset a statewide balance.
Over time individual constituent parts of a coalition will become dissatisfied. Maybe, for instance, a small faction ~ we'll call it the DNG-e ~ will end up controlling the candidate selection process, but they keep coming up with losers, or candidates who once in office do nothing for the other possibly larger coalition partners.
That could persuade a coalition partner to abandon that party and go to another one!
Some times a try will be made at forming a new party ~ alas, in a nation this large subdivided into thousands of constituent governments, and with tens of thousands of possible coalition partners, it doesn't work. For the most part any new faction will end up embracing one or the other of the parties ~ and sometimes that can be swift and sudden!
FDR picked up several hard core Republican factions in 1932, and they never looked back. Southern whites dropped the Democrats like a hot potato in the 1980s ~ and now they are an integral part of the Republican party.
Leftwingtards abandoned the Republicans in droves ~ and so on.
As the current Democrat President demonstrates to his very own leftwingtard coalition that their ideas end up getting them killed we might see a new sweep of 'neo neo neo con cons' out of the ranks of Democrat coalition members back into the Republican coalition.
That's why revolutions rarely happen around here. Social mobility is tolerated.
And the ABC darkness reaches out to the light and says lets blend together...
Crispy critters would suffice.
We don’t need a nation of tribes. We have a republic of states, and that will do just fine if the’ll just stop screwing with it and let it work the way it was designed.
Oh ABC......talking about peace as they come to the realization that the Democrats have played them like cheap harmonicas. Hey! ABC! Your team the Democrats have been caught red handed in a coverup worse than Watergate and an operation in Benghazi that makes Iran Contra look like a lemonade stand. Your team is in the crap up to their necks and now you want mercy for them? Yeah, we’ll show them the same mercy they showed Scooter Libby! Jail time is coming ABC! You can start a new reality show DEMOCRATS DOING TIME. That would be the first show on your network that I’ve watched in years.
‘Caaaaaan’t we all just get along?’ No, WE conservatives will fight the Marxist Bathhouse Gang every step of the way. Sorry, Mo’.
If I was Obama and Hillary, I’d be high-tailing it to an embassy asking for asylum!
This is how it works: Liberals demand the moon, scream obstruction when they get a spaceship. Conservatives simply say ‘hold on’ and then give over the keys.
What we have is an utter disconnect between reality and the political machine of Washington, the several states, and the media. None of them base anything on even the most vague sense of reality. Budget deficits of over 10% of the GDP? Oh, let's argue over funding for Planned Parenthood, a budget checkmark that might equal the coffee budget for the Pentagon.
Should we fund Planned Parenthood? No. Should we pay for coffee at the Pentagon? Hell no. Nothing is going to stop this gravy train so long as we focus on very narrow issues. We stop while bailing out the fiscal flood to argue over if an espresso cup's worth of water should be discarded, while the water rises yet another inch.
Simply put, we need to end the gravy train. No provided benefits for any government employee. You have a paycheck (and here, have a significant raise..,) you can buy whatever health care or retirement or whatever that you desire. We aren't doing it anymore. You want a vacation day? Pay for it. You want a sick day? Pay for it. At the end of each fiscal year, there needs to be a big fat zero in the ‘money owed’ column, especially for employees.
Can this legally be done? Absolutely. Is there political will to see it done? Absolutely not - why pick a fight with nearly 10% of the work force? 20% if you count contractors and those who earn more than half their income from government work.
We long ago ran out of other people's money. We've burned through the money from future generations, and we're now into fantasy land. Time for us to close the fairy tale book, take a moment of rest, and then open our eyes, get up, and get to work ending this wholesale looting of the public treasury.
There is the real revolution. Everything else up until that point is sideline distraction as people ignore the elephant in the room. Will it happen? It HAS to happen. The only question is how far down the rabbit hole we get before we find the strength of will to realize what a dung hole we've dived into.
Poorly educated low income minorities and their over-educated, upper class white political overseers vs the rest of us.
Moreover, there is a singular objective driving all these "divides"
In search of a socialist utopia, one side seeks to destroy the political and economic structure of the most successful nation in history; the other seeks to maintain it.
Given those stakes, how can there possibly be any compromise?
This is not a situation where one side wants a 10% tax, the other 20% -- and you can meet in the middle at 15%. In this case, one side wants to assume total power over the individual and the other wants to retain personal liberty and economic freedom. Settle for half? Hardly.
Sorry, Mr. Dowd. These "divides" will have to remain in place, even become more polarized, until one side wins...and the other loses. No amount of hand-wringing or bedwetting will "moderate" our differences.
Yeah. In 2008, it was the end of Conservatism, we won, screw you.
In 2012, they are already starting with how the winner needs to reach out to the loser, and respect his position, and compromise with him.
Looks like we’re not the only one’s thinking Gallup isn’t an outlier.
Not Canada. I think they would be better off in Mexico. Criminnal cartels and lots of drugs ect.
how do you compromise with idiots who are for a war..until you are in the war...and then they are against it?
How do you compromise with idiots who ram healthcare down our throats using parliamentary trickery?
How do you compromise with idiots who can’t get their story straight about what happened in Libya?
How do yo compromise with idiots?????
My short answer to these questions is: You can’t.
Dhimmicrats only seek civility and compromise when they are in the weaker position. Just like muzzies.
Ever notice how all of Satan’s spawn have a similar game plan an similar hates?
They pooped in the well. They pushed our faces under the water and told us that we had to drink and shut the h up. They sneered at us and told us, “elections have consequences.” They mocked anyone who had traditional ideas and goals/convictions. They mocked the citizens of this great country who disagreed with the administration’s plan. They did absolutely nothing to bring this country to a place of togetherness.
BS, this is the last chance to save this nation from the dem party because if they ever gain power again there is no rule of law for them. If republicans do not make a huge example of this administration and go after every crime and put people in prison the next time the only way to save this country will be through arms because the dem party has become so corrupt they will not let go of power again.
I clicked on the link and there it was, the winning entry in the “Forward!” fourth grade essay contest at Guevara Country Day, the East Coast’s leading Harvard feeder prep school. (Three Diversity Students on Scholarship)!, sponsored by Google. And Yaz. And Audi.
Oh, yeah, the balding liberal white guy also said, “Folks.” (snicker)
The very same forces that have never compromised when they could refuse to and get away with it - everyone who has been part of the Marxist/Progressive/Liberal agenda - are the same forces who have created all the divisiveness in the nation, as part of their divide and conquer strategy
and as usual, and as they always do
when they are about to lose some measure of control
they want to “make peace”.
GOP, if you [AGAIN] do not make sure the Democrats reap the consequences they have sown for themselves with Obama and his entire agenda, you will lose the winning majority you are building today as quickly as you have gained it.
That is why I have been saying to the Conservative base; what is now important is not simply that Romney win, but even more importantly that that win be accompanied by even more (more than Romney) real Conservative gains in Congress, not just GOP gains but Conservative GOP gains.
The new Congress must remember, Presdients can “propose” but Congress must “dispose”.
Off this topic but wanted it public because it is important:
I believe this election gave more credit to your r/K theory.
As when Roosevelt helped screw up the economy more then it already was they rallied around the r-type leader. Meaning they are actually afraid of us. I honestly didn't believe we had that many r-types or those that are taking more then they give but I was wrong.
Until a major economic collapse I don't see a change coming anytime soon. As long as people are fed, clothed with a roof over their heads r-type's will thrive and we will be feared. Their fear in real bad times will lead to hysteria in the sense they will do as the Nazi's did too those they feared.
Thanks again. Your concepts does help understand why we are in this position
