McCain: Libya worst cover-up I've seen in my life

By SCOTT WONG | 10/28/12 11:19 AM EDT

Sen. John McCain said Sunday he was sure President Barack Obama would show leadership “in fine fashion” in response to Hurricane Sandy, but said his handling of the deadly Libya consulate attack was the worst “cover-up or incompetence” he had ever seen.

“This tragedy turned into a debacle and massive cover-up or massive incompetence is having an impact on the voters because of their view of commander in chief,” the Arizona Republican said on CBS’s “Face the Nation.”

“It is still the worst cover-up or incompetence I have ever observed in my life. ...” McCain added. "Somebody the other day said to me, 'Well, this is as bad as Watergate.' Nobody died in Watergate."

McCain and other Republicans, including GOP National Chairman Reince Priebus and former House Speaker Newt Gingrich, pounced on the Obama administration during the Sunday talk shows after news reports came out over the weekend showing discrepancies between the White House and Defense Department over why reinforcements weren't sent to Libya after the attack on the U.S. consulate in Beghazi.

The attack killed U.S. Ambassador Chris Stevens and three other Americans. Defense Secretary Leon Panetta said last week it was too dangerous to send troops into Libya after the U.S. compound came under attack. But White House officials said they had not denied requests from Americans in Benghazi for backup.

"Why after a cry for help to Leon Panetta and after the president gave a directive to protect those people … Panetta now claims he told the person to stand down," Priebus said on CNN's "State of the Union."

"Either the president didn’t give the directive or the president isn’t being truthful or perhaps Leon Panetta acted as commander in chief."

I agree but still McLame...stay out of it. You’ll find a way to “cross the aisle” on this and we don’t need it!

I understand the high level national security failure here, but the main thing that burns me up is not being discussed at all anywhere. To me, the administration’s blatant attack on our first amendment rights was the worst part of all this. They were in full throat opposition to all American’s most basic rights for weeks and no one is saying anything about that any longer!

First lets get the creature of the Youtube video OUT OF JAIL please?

Several flag officers relieved of duty in the last week. GOP needs to start making comparisons to Nixon’s Saturday Night Massacre.

The TRUTH will come out!

Obama pounded the table and declared:

“We will NOT inject American forces into another mid-East country and create the impression we’re involved in a civil war!”

From there, the team set about blaming a video trailer.

Hey, John, what was that about Obama being a good man and a good President again? Severe Fail on both observations. You should have put up a fight.

Some cover ups can last forever....not this one. This one is going to come out in its entirety. A lot of people witnessed various pieces of it and a lot of people are disgusted by it.

If this was on Face the Nation, more than a few libs and undecideds may have watched it. Juan McCain is an idiot. He and his boy-pal both strongly endorsed obama’s illegal war against Libya and handing over the country to Muslim terrorists, but at least he’s getting it right for a minute.

The MSM have not gone into a lot of the worst details about Bengazi, but they have been covering it enough so that just about everyone knows about it and, basically, wonders what the hell is going on.

You better believe it! This is a historical cover up and actually a bad one at that because nobody has their story straight! An enormous amount of pressure should be forthcoming on the Obama adm about this and the MSM is nowhere to be found!

American Citizens are going to HAVE to bring the HAMMER DOWN by continually asking the questions the MSM won't. (Except for Kyle Clark, great job!)

The MSM can KMA!!! Are you angry enough yet people?

Senator McCain: demand 40 days of televised hearings into this scandal. The Democrats did it to the Republicans over Iran Contra! Turnabout is fair play. Look for the money. We know, shoot, everyone knows Ollie North is a patriot and that was his motivation. Obama and Hillary aren’t patriots. They’re Democrat grifters. There’s money behind this scandal and it’s money going to Democrats. And keep an eye on those two grifters because they don’t like jail. Don’t let them run over to some embassy claiming asylum.

McCain is right. This is the worst executed government cover-up in the history of government cover-ups. Panetta unwittingly has cut the legs off of the Administration’s decision three days later to blame this on a spontaneous demonstration as the result of a video for two weeks. But Panetta says now that they either knew it was a sophisticated attack or they were uncertain as to whether it was. But, starting 3 days later, they assured the world that it was a spontaneous demonstration. They have been caught in lying and deceit.

I agree with him but this is also the worst cover up and bias I have ever seen in my life from the media.

I’ve seen the media go into overdrive since 2000 but this cover up by this admin and by this media has to go down in history as the biggest cover up in history

Sadly, that may be the only way this crime sees the light of day. Give the media whores in the senate unlimited face time.
