‘Democrat Of The Year’ Convicted Of Felony Theft October 26, 2012 JEFFERSON COUNTY, Colo. (CBS4)- The woman named “Democrat of The Year” this year by the Jefferson County Democratic Party has been convicted of felony theft by a Jefferson County jury for stealing from a developmentally disabled 71-year-old woman.
“The jury did right,” said Cindy Maxwell, an advocate for the victim.
On Thursday, a jury convicted 66-year-old Estelle Carson of felony identify theft and felony theft from an at risk adult for stealing checks from the woman and using them to pay her own cable, cell phone and internet bills.
The victim is partially blind, developmentally disabled, has cerebral palsy and is confined to a wheelchair. She is on a fixed income of $596 per month according to the Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office.

I think this enhances his “democratic man of the year” status. If you are all about stealing, it is a badge of honor to put it on display.
The information is a little scanty. How was she getting and cashing the checks? Was she the woman’s legal care-taker, or at least roommate? If she was the caretaker, it’s not as shocking. You could see someone justifying to herself, “Well, she listens to the tv too, so the cable is in part for her. And I need the cell in case I have to call 911. And sometimes I look up stuff on the internet to help me care for her...” that sort of thing. I wonder what the deal was.

I can’t see how she even qualifies for that award. I would submit that stealing from only one person would be well below average for an aspiring democrat.

Morally speaking, you might call this “leading from behind.”
She should not be stripped of her “Democrat of the Year” title. After all, she is still a typical Democrat, a poster child for Democrats. Sometimes a negative example is the best example for anyone who wants to call himself or herself a Democrat.
