Sandy poised to make a direct hit on New Jersey
AP via New York Post ^ | October 29, 2012

Christie, who famously urged New Jersey residents last year to "get the hell off the beach" as Hurricane Irene approached, urged residents of the state's narrow barrier islands to move to higher ground. He predicted the storm would come ashore at Atlantic City around 2 a.m. Tuesday.

And yet even with Christie's words there are a good potion of FReepers who believe that Sandy is just a figment of imagination, or that 'Bama’ either conjurered up the storm, or maybe the 'dims' are using a secret weather control machine and the whole thing is some Machiavellian plot out of a bad suspense novel to ruin the election.

Don't you just love the stench of 'ODS' in the morning?

I'm thinking that God conjured this storm up, and it's his way of early voting. It dawned on me this morning after looking at a tracking map to compare that to the likely electoral win map.. Interesting correlation. First the storm stomps inland and lands nearly on top of DC, then heads straight up through the northeast.

Nobody is denying that there is a storm churning out there but the media hype is literally out of control. I am sitting here up in New England and everything is shut down. There is no reason for this. All we have so far in this part of Massachusetts is some drizzle and a slight breeze yet all the schools are closed statewide and the supermarkets were cleaned out yesterday of milk and bread. (Why milk and bread but not canned goods?)

At least my commute this morning was a breeze (pardon the pun).

I hear they are giving away official Obama merchandise at the beach.

Look, that storm passed us in Florida 200 miles out to sea, 200 MILES!!! And we still got pounded with some nasty nasty tropical storms. If it’s that bad from 200 miles away...

Not to mention 51 are dead in Haiti alone!

I’m in Newport News, VA stuck at home because my son’s school is closed. It isn’t even windy out and we had more rain many days throughout the summer. Only damage will be tidal flooding in areas that flood whenever a Noreaster or storm comes through. I wouldn’t want to be in Jersey, but the hype was major overkill here.

:: there are a good potion of FReepers who believe that Sandy is just a figment of imagination ::

For reltativity’s sake, I watched FR through the wee hours yesterday morning to track reporting of the 7-to-10-foot tall tsunami in Hawaii. Turned out to be a 2.5-foot surf “surge”. Predictions can turn out to be “less than expected” (drink!).

That said, from what I’ve seen, Sandy does appear to be a dangerous storm.

We are in the direct path. Please pray for us.

BTW - I love this guy's comment on the NY Post article.

"Obama to help with federal aid but not until they get some real intel on the storm. He doesn't want to risk anything. After a full investigation his administration will make a decision and try to find where the storm came from. It could be backlash from the movie twister or the game." Joseph Palagye

Yeah..it might be a little hyped but at least my neighbors actually moved their stuff to higher ground instead of waiting until the water was rising. It’s easy to talk of hype, especially if you’re not in the crosshairs!
Good luck to all my freeper friends in NJ, NY and PA! I don’t think it’s going to be a fun ride! I am not so worried about flooding as I am all that WIND!!

Living 20 miles inland from Atlantic City.I’m taking it very seriously. Right now we have been getting regular gusts of wind, and a steady rain. I heard things are going to hell in a handbasket around 8 tonight.

"Nobody is denying that there is a storm churning"

Clearly you haven't been paying attention to the many threads on Sandy. I suggest you might try reading some of them before. Consider this there are 50 Million people in the path of Sandy. Consider: http://egsc.usgs.gov/isb/pubs/booklets/elvadist/elvadist.html New York 410’H to Sea Level Philadelphia 421’H to Sea Level Baltimore 489’H to Sea Level Washington DC 410’H to Sea Level Consider everyone of the major cities in Sandy's path have rivers prefect for channeling storm surges inland. Glad you had a nice commute. I hope those in Sandy's way have just such a 'breeze' day, but I doubt it.

The Obama Administration indicates that current intelligence from NOAA points to a revived showing of this 1991 cinematic effort along the Eastern Seaboard.

“Don’t you just love the stench of ‘ODS’ in the morning?”

I coined the term “chicken little network” to describe the weather channel. But every now and then the chicken littles get it right.

I’m in tidewater VA. We’ve never been within 300 miles of the center of Sandy and we’ve been hit with rain and wind since Saturday afternoon. I just emptied out my overflowing rain gauge. It’s still raining. And then there is the storm surge. It’s flooding here; not badly, but flooding. For a storm that’s center has never even come close.

No I don’t think Sandy is a figment of my imagination. I live 2-3 miles from the Barnegat Bay, South of Toms River. Now I understand that many Freepers are not familiar with the area. Everything East of RT9 has been under mandatory evacuation, at least where I live. Even some area’s West of RT 9 depending on where they lie. I am as prepared as I can be.
One of the problems is that the flood zone maps for my area were created in the 1950’s. Long before most of the homes in my area were built. My house is approximately 10-12 feet above sea level. I am not that concerned about storm surge or flooding. The ultra sandy soil drains extremely fast. I am worried about losing sewer and water utilities. Also I have some large trees around my home. All solid healthy oaks but if they fall I am screwed.
Time to tough it out. I really don’t think based on what I see its going to be that bad however anything can happen.
Of course it all depends on where you live. Inland New Jersey got hammered with flooding after Irene. I truly think those people are going to bear the brunt.

I am not so worried about flooding as I am all that WIND!!

The wind will be a huge issue in the canyons of the cities, but the most unusual thing most weather people seem to be repeating is the amount of WATER she's carrying.

Uber low barometric pressure meets cold air front while making landfall....she's gonna dump water fast.

Not that I'm an expert or anything. LOL!
